It's ok the promotion, but the fact is that somone (mr. B) is getting rich with the efforts of other musicians, way better than mr. Bregovic, which will get no penny for this. An example for you: You sure know the song "Kalashnjikov"... Ok, the original melody - "Seva - The Lark" is from the roumenian composer Grigoras Dinicu, and his widely recognizable brass version is from Slobodan Salijevic. You think mr. Salijevic got some money after this song became worldwide famous? cheers.

Well it's an old story but how can we judge anyone if the so called "crime" isnt obvious. As far as I get it, Serbian music is full of cross-quotes. I.e., Kusturica & NSO use "Kalashnikov" theme as well (Drang nach Osten). But if mr. Salijevic is "the original source", he could claim it and get the copyright.

What I'm trying to say is that Bregovic isn't a genius nor a hero, but just one who stealed a few tunes from here, mixed some other together, "copyrighted" all this as he was the author and made a lot of money. Ok, he had a good intuituion and is for sure a good self-seller, but it's incorrect to call his music as "serbian" music, as well as say that "Bubamara" or "Mesecina" are composed from him.

I make (very little, indeed) money with MY OWN music, and when I play music from others, i pay royalties to them, or i write that it's "traditional" music, i say that it's traditional (with my own arrangement, but always traditional). That's nothing more than honesty, I think. Or maybe I'm wrong, but I can say you for sure that you can change Bregovic with yourself and get the same result from that musicians. Ever been in Guca?

I've seen him live 5 times. Hiss success is binded to success of Kusturica's movies (he's a genius for sure). Bregovic was the first to "sell" the music from the Balkans to the world.

These are music market's rules, i don't want to flame, just to say my opinions.

You can't compare him with Boban Markovic, Ferus Mustafov, Naat Veliov. Bregovic is for true a great showman (even if he hasn't my sympathy), but there are tons of better musicians all along the Balkans.
