Don't know about the salt content. The video was shot at a fish farm on Langkawi Malaysia. The farm was located in a mangrove, so the water salinity would likely be similar to sea water or whatever it is in a mangrove.

I have 6 of these in my custom made 600 L ( 159 G )aquarium with a 2 foot plastic cage built on top of the tank so I can place fly and what not in thier and they will take it. When I do water changes one unfortuanly spat water up my nose and went in my eye and I also dropped an enclosed bucket with 100 odd flys in it. Needless to say they didnt spit for at least a week untill I got more flys.
Not sure if they eat meat, but they seem to enjoy the bread, and since they like insects, I would imagine that they would eat meat if the pieces were small enough.
try putting the bait a foot closer to the surface. When they become confident.. they wont bother shooting.. they'll jump and snap it off your fingers. It's just as cool. I have a pair too btw =)

Some sort of meat. They hunt insects by shooting them out of the sky/off plants like that, so they're carni/insecti(?)vores.
