I was just about to purchase this camera but with that flimsy USB plug cover.. I think I'll pass. You've really helped me decide to scratch this one off of my list. I think I will look back into the Kodak easyshare line. From the reviews I have read I don't think they have that flimsy cover problem like the Nikon. Thanks for taking the time make the review!!
Anyone thinking of buying it at Best Buy, I recommend going on their website and checking the price. I was able to save $40 because it was cheaper on their website. Also, I found a 12% off coupon which saved me another 30 bucks so I got it for $208.

Same thing with the "door that's flimsy". A quick search online for the manual and you would have been well informed about the charger issue. THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN YOU TO DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH LESS THAN THE TIME YOU SPENT ON THIS CRAPPY REVIEW... Two thumbs down.
Take it from someone who did a month of research on trying cameras the Nikon s8100 is great starts up in less than 3 seconds ready to take a pic so you wont miss that great photo. The Charging connection plug hatch is fine when tucked in its not like its like that all the time. Great pictures, great video. All in all this is the BEST CAMERA ON THE MARKET. I also took a video of a firetruck at night and it was great. Thumbs up if you know what i said is true.
@1Dacruz hi, yeah it does make a tiny amount of noise. But it is very faint and if there is anything going on in the background then you dont hear it at all. Its only because the microphone is so strong so if there is any other sound then the sound is unheard but when it is its very very tolerable. I have a video on my page of a helicopter taking off, see if you can hear it. also the vid is of a blue and white chopper. Hope this helps.
you americans are so damn lazy, you guys are a bit too comfortable with your lives; what a lazy country, i mean deal with it, not every thing is going to fulfill your needs, nikon is one of the best, i own the s8100 and it does great, people need to loosen up a bit and stop thinking thier royalty or some shit

@Baditdong awesome comment you really made me laugh. I clicked on this video trying to get a review on the camera interface and pic quality and i got this guy talking about the flap on the charger and an annoying wire.
The title of your video is very misleading.. it should be labeled " nikon s8100 latch review", because you spend almost 4.5 mins just on that. You waste more time showing your old canon. You don't talk about any of the features except the video comparison but even that's not helpful bcoz they have different apertures. Besides, you can probably get better results by tweaking couple of settings. I'm just a little annoyed bcoz i expected atleast a product overview from an almost 7 mins video.
I would check your settings on the indoor ambient light video. You should be able to adjust the exposure.
Also 5fps...you need to have adequate light and an appropriate shutter to go hand held. Kick up the ISO to obtain a higher shutter and have another go at it.

Dude, you can just cut off the flap if it bothers you. Most cameras don't even have a cover. An iphone, ipad, cellphones etc don't have covers.
