  • First time I tried this roll was in a pool with my carbon werners.

Managed it but as i was only wearing my swimming shorts and a spraydeck, my armpit got a few carbon splinters. They hurt!

I put on a Kag for the next time lol

  • Armpit roll? I've always heard it as shotgun roll...to each his own. This is one of the easiest rolls to do two handed, haha. But very helpful 1 handed, if you've broken or otherwise injured an arm. Thankfully I've never had to do it one handed.

  • As you are only using one arm, it can be used if you have injured the other arm, for example if your shoulder is dislocated.

  • I thought it was actually going to be rolling with a shotgun.

Anyhow, it was interesting. Any practical advantages?

  • Guys... this is an armpit roll......

  • Actually, it is both. You can call it either. For those of us who also shoot, I have found that the best position for the end of the paddle is virtually in the same place that you would place the stock of your gun - not in the armpit but just forwards of and above the armpit, in the crevasse between the top of the humerus and the chest wall.

That's why it is called a shotgun roll. It is also what Dubside calls it.

  • Very little stress, in fact, as the whole of one's arm is "welded" to half the length of the GP. An ordinary Euro paddle roll, done badly, is much more risky. I often felt my shoulder half pop out when executing a roll poorly. Very unpleasant.

  • I'm impressed but isn't that putting a lot of stress on your shoulder? Your way out of the comfort zone. I'll try it in the pool and get my ass chewed by the Coach.
