I'm most impressed by his defensive hustle to knock the ball away at the goal line, and his down field blocking for his teammates.
It's one thing to be imbued with great talent, which he clearly is, both those types of things are a matter of great determination and dedication to his craft.
I'm impressed with his running ability, especially his cutting at full speed. He also seems to go all-out every play whether he has the ball or not. He has his dad's work ethic which I think people are underestimating.
He doesn't have stats because he is a redshirt sophomore at UCLA that is burried in the depth charts. The Bruins have crazy depth at WR so his size and speed are keeping him off the field for now. You can bet we will see him play before he graduates though.
@Erbs55 I know he's not his dad but maybe it would have made more sense to try Mississippi Valley State since they had enough sense to take his dad or maybe a small school like them cause we all know just cause your good in college doesn't always translate to a good pro career. eg brian bosworth.
Hahaha...you haters are so funny! Stop dreaming? Who said anybody's dreaming. He's going to one of the top universities in the country, getting a great education! What are you doing with your lives besides making negative comments on YouTube? Get a life, because he has a darn good one.
@Lebron016 BTW...your idiotic comment shows that YOU DEFINITELY DON'T HAVE A HUGE DICK! That's why you have time to post such vulgar statements that has NOTHING to do with what the post is about. Guys with a small piece try to make up for it with a big mouth!!!
Like you know anything about dicks. your favorite athlete is Lebron..... pathetic...... Jerry Rice jr. and Berry Sanders Jr. should be on the same team when there in the NFL. that would be sick.
@JackieRice I agree! Let them hate! I look forward to watching Rice Jr. catch footballs and be a role model like his father. His father is the definition of class and greatness! Good luck Jr.!
this is the problem really, everybody has to big of expectations, and wants to compare every little thing he does to his dad. Let this guy be his own person. People already saying he wont ever make it in the NFL. Who cares.!!! Let this guy develop, who knows maybe he will turn out to be a heck of a player. I just want to see what he does in college first, forget the NFL
@2taggs2 hahaha oh my god you are so smart. Look at his dad, he went to MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE and he still went to the NFL. Jerry Senior lacked size and track speed too (huge difference between track and football speed). For God's sake he's a redshirt freshman this year and your already predicting his football career? I played Varsity football at El Camino High School and I was moving the chains when our JV team played against Menlo Schools JV. Rice Jr was playing that game and let me tell you he was not that good his sophomore year. From this video he looks pretty good but let me tell u that the competition from his division is not pretty good as compared to teams from San Francisco, East Bay,Los Angeles and the teams Sanders Jr plays against. Just so u can understand how bad our division is my Senior year(
yeah i wanna see some down field blocking and route running. big jerry ran every route his hardest even when the ball wasnt going to him. and he was probably the best blocking receiver which just as important as catching the ball.
@austkeat u a stupid ass hater, he is in highschool and is 5'11, he has room to grow and his speed is not that bad off. Man haters disgust me. Go to hell ass hole!
@austkeat u a stupid ass hater, he is in highschool and is 5'11, he has room to grow and his speed is not that bad off. Man haters disgust me. Go to hell ass hole!
Only Air Force offered him a scholarship (he declined) - he is now a walk on for UCLA.
He doesn't have great speed like his father, but unlike his father, Jr. is only 5'10" -- Sr. is 6'2". No speed and no size... do not expect big things from him.
@2taggs2 desean jackson is 5'10 and hes one of the best receivers in the nfl, brandon banks is about 5'6" 149 pounds and hes in the nfl, there are tons of running backs in the nfl under 5'11, santana moss 5'11, chad hall 5'8", percy harvin devin hester both 5'11" should i keep going?
@2taggs2 you forget that his dad didnt have great speed either but a lot of other players did, with hands like that just throw it up and 90 percent of the time guys like that will come down with the ball. It reminds me of Sidney Rice, he doesnt have 4.2 speed but he gets the job done better than a lot of other recievers. Still wanna argue that its all about speed? Larry Fitgerald.
@2taggs2 If thats the case then why is Hines Ward still playing in the NFL? He's barely 6 feet tall and not too fast either and hes still one, or at least WAS one of the most productive recievers in the NFL. Mind you he is getting a few years on him now, but still... I'm not saying Speed and size doesn't help and isn't desired... I'm just saying you can make it work if you're telented enough.
Jerry Rice, Jr. is a WALK ON! He could not even get a scholarship from a big school.
Hines ward played for Georgia -- and was not a walk on.
FACE IT, Jerry Rice, Jr. is not big, is not fast, and if he was any good, I am sure he would not be a walk on. If some how he ever makes an NFL team, I will eat my words - BUT THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!
@2taggs2 Haha im not saying he will, Im just saying it happens... I know as good as you do that the only reason he's even on the roster is because of his name.
@2taggs2 So if your son said he wanted to play in the NFL despite not getting and scholarships from colleges would you tell him to give up his dream? There are walk-ons that went on to have successful NFL careers. Give the kid a chance.
I would support his collegiate career.. If my son didn't get any scholarships and was delusional in thinking he could make the NFL - I think good parenting would be to be honest and realistic with your child.
I'm not saying it is impossible to make the NFL being a walk-on -- but the odds are astronomical.
BOTTOMLINE: JERRY RICE, JR. WILL NEVER PLAY IN THE NFL.
@2taggs2 He wants to play major college football. I have no reason to think that his family wouldn't be able to pay tuition. He's trying to play major D1. I don't see any problem with that. After three-four years he can decide on whether or not he wants to take that path. Meanwhile he'll get a degree. And plus its hard to argue his lineage. Maybe could be a late bloomer a la Clay Matthews.
@2taggs2 u don't know that, at this point in his career his dad wasn't considered NFL material either, his dad didn't even get recruited to any big D1 or what we call FBS schools, he went to a school in the SWAC conference, so who knows, if u an athlete you got a chance, and being jerry rice's son, he'll at least get the benifit of doubt, he looks like a better athlete than sr to me, but NFL ain't all about being the best athlete it's about being heady, and takin' advantage of oppurtunities
Larry Fitzgerald.
Man, you can just tell his old man is working hard to instill those WR instincts he had. If he keeps his head on straight, he may not reach to levels his dad did, but he'll at least end up a big name in the NFL, he just has to work like his pops.
He's a good player, but wat really stands out is that he was blocking not alot of HS wideouts will do that and one play he blocked 2 guys. Thats one of those things that is the mark of a good fundamental player
Wow! He looks great! Donovan Lee #21 from California will be in college the same time as Jerry Rice, Jr. Take a look and leave a comment about what you think about the video. Thanks and wish you the BEST!
Nick montana,Barry sanders jr, And jerry rice jr. Its going to be great to see there NFL carreer unfold if they make it in the nfl which if they keep working hard i believe they will
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This guy went to Menlo High School which is in a league consisting of only small white kids. He's pretty good but he would have gotten his shit run if he was playin against any good team (Serra, St. Francis, Bellarmine, etc.). Don't expect too much out of this kid
We played them last year but I was on JV and it was a hell of a long ride back home so I didn't see much of this kid playing on the field. Nice talent though I guess...
Best part of this clip were the blocks. Just like his old man. I don't think most fans realized that almost every single long running play during Jerry Sr.'s 49ers and Raiders career were ran behind Rice.
Six years ago, in college, I wrote my term paper of my persuasive writing class on why Rice is the greatest football player of all time. Spent one paragraph talking about why he was the greatest pass catcher ever, and the rest talking about other stuff, like blocking. Got an A.
look ... what everybody is forgetting is this. Jerry Rice came out of Itta Bena MS. The valley. and noone thought he would compete on the same level as someone who came out of UCLA or ND or Miami. She shattered them all, ALL!!! it dosent matter where JR. goes if he is good he's good
your a fucking idiot just because he is doing good in high school and is the son of jerry rice doesnt mean he got a "lock" in the hall of fame. do you pay attention to football?
man jerry rice jr and his whole team knows that if they played lowell a second time that season they woulda got fuckin spanked because the only reason they won the first time was because of that dumbass call that took away a touchdown from lowell
I have heard reports that Jerry's isn't the fastest. I would argue and say that your eyes deceive you. Smooth runners who produce longer more powerful strides often times don't look as fast, but are the type of receivers that fool defensive backs because speed isn't a matter of sight, its a matter of get from point A to point B in fast time. You will see Jerry Jr, doing to some great stuff at UCLA.
i think this is a cop out im talking to jerry rice sr he knows the teams his son is playing against are garbage his son is pretty talented but come on up the competition a little like barry sanders son playing for the oklahoma state champs they played high level teams chris carter son florida state champs high level competition ha hell even will smith son cali state champs even tho he was on the jv team but anyways if this kid isnt a senior i demand you move to either texas florida or ohio!!!
yungvick, California is number one in sending prospects to the NFL by a large margin over Texas and Florida. Rice Jr.'s team just isnt big enough or good enough to win a championship.
BTW: Rice Jr. committed to UCLA yesterday. It was in the Palo Alto news.
oh i didnt know that thats good tho i guess we all have to sit back and wait and see what can he do in a nice size power conference lik the pac10 i wish him the best just in this vid the comp doesnt look up to par
people fakin on this video are haters--this dude can ball
wherever he gets offered he will probably deserve it. it won't be a situation like where darrell green's son jared got offered by uva just because of his lineage
overrated, the teams he played against are weak as fuck. Also, I don't see any highlights from MA games, the team who dominated that division including Menlo.
Jerry Rice Jr is incredibly over-rated, I know from the experience of playing against him. The only reason he is getting so much ink is that he is Jerry Rice's son, if that wasn't the case, you wouldn't have even heard his name. The people in this division are incredibly weak too, their school decided to bitch and move up a division only to get smacked by almost every team. FUCK MENLO
I think a better question is why would any colleges not be interested!!!! Looks like he could do it all. Nice block at 1:17, college scouts will love that.
why does every hall of fame athlete name their kid after themselves???

This guy went to Menlo High School which is in a league consisting of only small white kids. He's pretty good but he would have gotten his shit run if he was playin against any good team (Serra, St. Francis, Bellarmine, etc.). Don't expect too much out of this kid

MicalSimpson13 2 years ago

Got an A.
SportsFreakfrom94598 2 years ago 3
look ... what everybody is forgetting is this. Jerry Rice came out of Itta Bena MS. The valley. and noone thought he would compete on the same level as someone who came out of UCLA or ND or Miami. She shattered them all, ALL!!! it dosent matter where JR. goes if he is good he's good
Think people think
madlib72 2 years ago 3

lowellhighschool 2 years ago
SHP shat on Menlo twice this year and Jerry didnt do shit. If he can't do shit vs Alex Siegel he can't do shit at the college level.
drews0322 2 years ago
man jerry rice jr and his whole team knows that if they played lowell a second time that season they woulda got fuckin spanked because the only reason they won the first time was because of that dumbass call that took away a touchdown from lowell
jeatorres 2 years ago
lol one bad call was the reason you guys lost but if yall played again you would kill them...

You will see Jerry Jr, doing to some great stuff at UCLA.

i think this is a cop out im talking to jerry rice sr he knows the teams his son is playing against are garbage his son is pretty talented but come on up the competition a little like barry sanders son playing for the oklahoma state champs they played high level teams chris carter son florida state champs high level competition ha hell even will smith son cali state champs even tho he was on the jv team but anyways if this kid isnt a senior i demand you move to either texas florida or ohio!!!
yungvick100 2 years ago
yungvick, California is number one in sending prospects to the NFL by a large margin over Texas and Florida. Rice Jr.'s team just isnt big enough or good enough to win a championship.
BTW: Rice Jr. committed to UCLA yesterday. It was in the Palo Alto news.
videofunfun 2 years ago 2
oh i didnt know that thats good tho i guess we all have to sit back and wait and see what can he do in a nice size power conference lik the pac10 i wish him the best just in this vid the comp doesnt look up to par

Jerry Rice has always been my favorite player.
indianapoliscolts914 3 years ago 2
people fakin on this video are haters--this dude can ball
wherever he gets offered he will probably deserve it. it won't be a situation like where darrell green's son jared got offered by uva just because of his lineage
i love darrell green but jared sucks at football

Where's highlights of the MA and Woodside games? Two best teams on the penninsula.
rc49ers53 3 years ago
overrated, the teams he played against are weak as fuck. Also, I don't see any highlights from MA games, the team who dominated that division including Menlo.
navidismyhairygod 3 years ago
Jerry Rice Jr is incredibly over-rated, I know from the experience of playing against him. The only reason he is getting so much ink is that he is Jerry Rice's son, if that wasn't the case, you wouldn't have even heard his name. The people in this division are incredibly weak too, their school decided to bitch and move up a division only to get smacked by almost every team. FUCK MENLO
navidismyhairygod 3 years ago

I think a better question is why would any colleges not be interested!!!! Looks like he could do it all. Nice block at 1:17, college scouts will love that.
