Removing ones hat is a sign of respect and not removing it is a sign of disrespect. I know in Canada you are required to take your hat off in the presence of a picture of the Queen. I am sure they would have asked him to take it off before picking him up and chucking him out. Then again maybe if he was not dressed like a street punk, this would not have happened.

He didn't stand up. He pitched a fit like a child instead of actually doing something about it (like starting a petition or signing up to adress the council and let them know how he feels.
But he didn't do ANYTHING about it. Instead, he threw a child's tantrum, fought officers, was arrested for it then pleaded guilty and made public apologies. He didn't stand up for his beliefs at all. He cowered.

I doubt the denial of hat-wearing constitutes 'control'.
If you're in a veteran pub/home etc. it's general etiquette to remove your hat. Same with any formal or traditional event or place. It's been the case for decades.
I was asked to remove my hat from a student bar once. I didn't want to, and I didn't see why a student bar would enforce it, but I didn't kick up a fuss - I just left. If it was important to me to be there, I would have just taken off my hat. He should have done the same.

The fact of the matter is this: It's just a feckin' hat. Plus, the only comparisons he was saying was that his hat was his crown, which, quite frankly, is so arrogant he deserves the tasering for that alone. He wasn't even wearing it afterwards. Give me a break. Asking someone to remove a baseball cap is completely different then asking someone to remove a yamakah or a crown.
