The reason the forehead is a none target zone for most instances in fighting is its one of the hardest points on the body. around the skull approx eye brows and above is very hard and if u hit it with most body parts youll do more dmg to your self. How ever with a Kubotan you actually want to strike harder parts of the body, hense attacking knuckles shin etc.
Those who think a kubaton strike to the forehead is useless, please post some videos of yourselves getting whacked in the head with one, thanx. I kinda doubt you will remain standing. Or just push one into your forehead lightly, it hurts and the small "point" of the thing, even if rounded directs a lot of force to a small area. Might not break the skull, but it will hurt and scare someone, prolly stop them or even kill them.
WolfDeathGod is spot on i would say its all about point of impact AND surface area of impact ie kubaton very small surface area and a head butt whilst devastating on another person if done correctly is relativly a largish area! please excusse the spelling
I have taken martial arts for quite a few years and those of you who are talking about using the forehead for a strike while yes if conditioned properly it is good to strike with If I hit you on the forehead with a kubaton you are probably going to drop grabing your head. The average bone breaks with what like 4 or 5 pounds of direct pressure. You could easily do immense damage with a hard strike with a pointed metal kubaton and anyone who thinks diffrent obviously has no experiance.
At about 4:00 you mention the forehead as a target for a strike. I disagree with this. I've always been told that the forhead is the strongest part of the skull and any 'hard' strike (ment to inflict damage to the point of impact rather than to abrubtly move the skull and shake the brain) would be better placed elsware, like the nose or temple. Its the same for a fist or any small impact weapon.
You are correct. Take the HeadButt for example, one of the most devastating strikes a Human can perform. Also, board, concrete, and ice breaking is often accomplished with the forehead. If the forehead was a sensitive area then it wouldn't be used as a weapon! In a combat situation you must ONLY do the most effective strikes. A strike the the forehead is one of the most useless things you could do. It's solid bone meant to take abuse! It's not a matter of opinion, but anatomical fact.
Anatomical fact? I've a state license in physical therapy, and i've worked on 3 cadavers... ok. I tell you what, if you were to do a head butt, using the portion of the forehead that I would hit, you'd be in pretty badshape.
But, I appreciate that you took time out to view my materials. Thank you.
BIC WIDE BODY INK-PEN - Super strong fat triangular shape. Perfect grip. Reasonable length. Even for big hands. The plastic cover over the point tends to slip. But glue and re-assembly makes it very solid. Two of them fit in pants pocket nicely.
Obviously not a concealed weapon. Even less so than a strobe type maglight with serious lumens.
first of all the traditional kubotan is flat ended and made from plastic. secondly the pointed ones are imitation kubotans. They will hurt more because they are pointed. Stab anywhere and it'll hurt
Is there any study regarding the effectiveness of Kubaton srikes. Can a moderate sized woman of average strength throw a knockout punch against a man if she is equipped with a palm stick?
I am not aware of any such study. While a knockout would be potentially a desirable outcome, I think that so long as an attacker is either disabled or adequately discouraged from attacking further, that would suffice. In my teaching, small and petite women have been very effective in bringing about pain compliance on much larger partners using pocketsticks. I hope that helps.

We're all entitled to an opinion. I've actually struck people on the forehead, works pretty well actually.
Alot depends on what are you trying to do with your strikes?

The crown of the skull is the strongest part and it is what you use to execute a head butt, not the forehead.

Cold Steel makes hard plastic defensive pocket sticks that are easy to carry; I have mine near my wallet in my front pocket.
