Being security guard I'm sure they have seen situation in where patients or other people act in a strange manner and didn't think anything of it. Also If the lady had been waiting there that long why didn't she complain or say anything?

But if I had been waiting there for as little as 3 hours I'd find someone and be like "WTF, i'm kind of dying here and i'm just being ignored? Preventing me from dying is kind of like, your job, so fucking do it!".

The American people are the worst for treating others with respect, in Europe things like this would never happen. I know this sounds mean, but in a lot of syciatric settings, a lot of these crazy patients lay on the ground like that because the medication is strong or they felt like the floor is better or something, so it is hard for someone to suspect anything like this... it is sad but true. I think the nurse and doctor should have checked her, but how did they know this what they were in for? I feel sorry for both ends in a way.
That's the best that the medical profession is good for these days, she was a lot better off just getting it over with, and the staff knew her wallet was drained, anyway. The report makes it sound like she was waiting for 24 hours to treat a fucking gunshot wound; simply laying quietly on the floor while still occasionally moving in the psych ward is NOT an obvious sign of impending death.

Before requesting a valid argument be posted, assess your own for it's validity, because it has NONE. The hospital staff in an EMERGENCY room (psychiatric or not) is paid to attend to just that - emergencies. What higher priority was the staff attending to during the hour that woman laid passed out on the floor? What you are basically saying is that it is ok to ignore the homeless, mentally disabled, the drunks, the "scurge" of society. It is NOT, and I pray you are NOT in the field of medicine.

From someone with a degree in radiology and working in nuclear medicine, I have an extensive knowledge of how the medical industry works. If someone were to walk into a true emergency room and collapse, they would be immediately attended to. However, a psychiatric emergency room is completely different. The uneducated and ignorant have no idea what the people in that department deal with on a daily basis. While sad, the workers at this holding tank are innocent.
So, with your extensive knowlege of the medical field shaping your statements and views, I'd like an answer to the following:
You honestly feel the staff acted APPROPRIATELY and within the guidelines of what they agreed to do as health practitioners by ignoring a woman for over an hour who collapsed in an ER while seeking medical attention. I am not asking if what they did was UNDERSTANDABLE to you, I am asking if what the did (or did not do) what APPROPRIATE.
the hospital gets paid nothing. the patients at this place do not have insurance or money and the hospital is funded by the government. This is a perfect reason why the government should not be in charge of health care....

Did anyone catch "psychiatric emergency room"? Psychiatric? So she was having some kind of mental emergency? I guess they're used to patients acting up to get attention or laying on the floor. The report makes it sound like she was waiting for 24 hours to treat a fucking gunshot wound; simply laying quietly on the floor while still occasionally moving in the psych ward is NOT an obvious sign of impending death.

If the pt has put themselves there for whatever reason then thats a different story no need to cause a code white. But really no excuse.

How traumatized and dehumanized must the employees of that "hospital" be to respond (or not respond) in such an inhuman way?! The hospital suspended some folks; probably they'll have a committee to make some new rule. If a hospital (or a school or a government agency) becomes that which inflicts as much harm as good (as is true of most of our healthcare institutions and organizations) it should be closed, and it's management unemployed. NO other outcome is acceptable.

It doesn't matter where you are in the hospital. If you see someone collaspe, you should at least try and help out instead of walking away like a dumb ass. How would you feel if someone did the same thing to you while you are trying to breathe for your life!

wait, the psychiatric emergency room??? thats completely different from a real emergency room. i see nothing wrong with what happened here, these people are paid next to nothing to put up with the mentally disabled who are usually homeless at this place. Most of the time they pass out from drug and alcohol use or are so mentally insane that they act out in bizarre ways. Please comment with a valid argument. Thanks.

Before requesting a valid argument be posted, assess your own for it's validity, because it has NONE. The hospital staff in an EMERGENCY room (psychiatric or not) is paid to attend to just that - emergencies. What higher priority was the staff attending to during the hour that woman laid passed out on the floor? What you are basically saying is that it is ok to ignore the homeless, mentally disabled, the drunks, the "scurge" of society. It is NOT, and I pray you are NOT in the field of medicine.

I was really appalled by what Logdon had to say - they didn't not even CHECK on the woman to determine if she was drunk, disturbed, or "acting out in a bizzare way". They simply ignored her. That is wrong, almost criminally so - considering they CHOOSE to work in an psychiatric ER, no one is forcing them to. How hard is it to simply check on the woman? Ask someone to? Anyway, rant over. LOL

From someone with a degree in radiology and working in nuclear medicine, I have an extensive knowledge of how the medical industry works. If someone were to walk into a true emergency room and collapse, they would be immediately attended to. However, a psychiatric emergency room is completely different. The uneducated and ignorant have no idea what the people in that department deal with on a daily basis. While sad, the workers at this holding tank are innocent.

You honestly feel the staff acted APPROPRIATELY and within the guidelines of what they agreed to do as health practitioners by ignoring a woman for over an hour who collapsed in an ER while seeking medical attention. I am not asking if what they did was UNDERSTANDABLE to you, I am asking if what the did (or did not do) what APPROPRIATE.

Family lives in Jamaica, Mrs Green worked in New York to send the money to her children to offer them a better life.
It is unbelievable to see a woman die like this in a hospital of the "richest" country of the world. Perhaps it needs pictures like this (and sues) to let people think about a better health care system.
Glad to live in Europe, impossible here.
