Great to see people have decided on behalf of her which key is right for her, whether she has the right to transposing etc, where she herself refuses to name her Stimmfach explicitly!

It is customary for professional singers to transpose art song to the key that best suits their voice, as long as it still reflects the color of the music. The singer is not appreciated for the key in which they sing, but for the artistry they bring to the song.

@Mozart61 Who cares... it's a Lied, not an Opera... there is no major difficulties in transposing Lieder and it's quite common !

@PatateRoussoiste Schubert himself transposed these things all the time, whenever the people hanging out at his apartment wanted him to. People back then thought it was impressive!

Nicht nur, daß man der Norman "Gretchen" nicht abnimmt,

obendrein nervt ihre Deklaration des "ch"s:

@mlkoln Du hast leider Recht, ihr "sch" stört mich auch. Trotzdem, ich finde ihre Interpretation sehr schön. So könnte eine hessische Gretchen dieses Lied singen, wenn man denkt, dass Goethe auch aus Hessen kam ;-)

Ihre Deklaration ärgert mich auch, aber ich mit Dankarbeit1980 konform. Ich bin ein Sprachwissenschaftler, und ich wille, daß Sie wissen, daß die Aussprache der Fremdsprachen amerikanischer Personen schwer fällt, weil ihre Englischaussprache ist so unparteiisch. Ich habe sogar große Respekt vor ihr. Ich vorziehe die Liederinterpretationen von Dieskau-Fischer, aber er ist nicht eine gut Sopranistin.
