Michael is accurate, articulate and talented in every style that he plays. Plus - it always sounds like him. This is a really cool track. Trolls talk trash. MAB is awesome!
A lot of people like to talk shit about this mans hair and the style of this solo, but if more metal guitarist could slow down ,unplug and play this way it would prove just how talented they are as a gutarist. Have some respect for true talent and learn how to listen and appreciate the music. There is more to guitar than shreding, heavy distortion and high volume.

@cmatthews926 Why do people think speed has no emotion? Speed conveys different emotion than slow and mellow music. Listen to Chopin's Fantasy Impromptu. Its a fast classical piano piece. There's tons of emotion in it.
I don't know what elevator that jealous guy is riding in but I would gladly take that one. I love Batio and this made me like him just a little more but it was obvious that he has this talent as well. Very cool. I love diversity.
@maneconew not one of the best, he is the best, i'd like to see any other guitarist play this, then turn around and shred on a double guitar and play 2 harmonies at the same time on different parts of each fret board, he can even play something different with his left than his right at the same time, until i see another guitarist whos ambidextrous, can play all styles of music, Micheal Angelo Batio is the best guitarist in the world, and that is a fact
@metalguitarZomg2 i play amost all styles of music, i am ambidextrous, but not as fast as michael. and i cant play multiple necks (with or without harmonies) at the same time.
@pipsqueek14 true, so its more than just being ambidextrous, however that would help with the left hand playing, i do agree that micheal rules though, i wonder if he is a reincarnation of micheal angelo david you know the naked painting guy or something :P or if that names just a coincidence lol
There are no facts when it comes to that. Buckethead can play an unbelievably beautiful melody like I Love My Parents and then play something weird like Thai Fighter Swarm and then play something kick ass like King James etc. and much more. He is more versatile than Batio. I have seen people play double harmonies with 2 guitars besides Batio and without string dampeners. Batio has admitted that Shawn Lane is better than him in the technical department. It's all opinions.
@Fluffypopcicle when you play guitar it becomes fact, there are easy songs and hard songs regardless of opinion, batio only says that because he's trying to be modest, ofcourse he's not going to run around saying "im the best guitarist in the world" but anyone that plays guitar and has half a brain knows he's the best in the world, theres opinions, then theres fact, my opinion is that jari maenpaa is the best guitarist in the world, but the fact is Micheal angelo batio has that title
@Fluffypopcicle buckethead is pretty good, but can he play left and right handed guitars at the same time? upside down? and add in the up and over technique aswell as batio pulls it off? no, and thats what makes batio better than any other guitarist, his left and right hand sync playing, not to mention he can play it upside down aswell as crossed over, any way you can think of to play a guitar, he can do it, with your thumb? hes got that nailed not only that but his feeling, tech, diversity etc
He has something special to him, but being able to play something that nobody else can doesn't make you the greatest ever. Actually, watch?v=oJyM_hQd61Q plenty of people can play 2 guitars at once. If you're impressed by the over-under technique then you really don't have a say on any of this because it isn't a challenging technique. It just looks cool. Nobody could play what Shawn Lane could. Shawn Lane kills MAB in the technical department or anybody for that matter.
Continuing: you were impressed that MAB could play with 2 necks at the same time. There are plenty of people who can and don't even need the convenience of a double guitar. There are no facts when it comes to the best, but when it comes to technical ability then it isn't an opinion. Paul Gilbert called Shawn Lane the most terrifying guitarist ever, Buckethead had to resort to 8 finger tapping to emulate Shawn, and Greg Howe couldn't contemplate him.
Continuing once more: you can find MAB covers all over youtube and a lot of them are perfectly clean. You will NEVER find a cover of that link that I just sent you (the new one, not the guitar one) by any guitarist out there right now. Plenty of people can flawlessly cover MAB's most complicated material. watch?v=8EZEEfk0n2A
case and point. Once again, lets see a cover of this watch?v=WhTHxkIllvU
@Fluffypopcicle he may have hit the notes, however he doesn't do the up and over technique at all, and in order to "flawlessly cover" a MAB song all the techniques need to be added, not just playing it, also i do believe he's playing to a slowed down backing track
Who gives a shit? The over under technique is a noob trick to show off to people that can hardly play the guitar. It just looks cool. MAB has admitted that Dan Donegan from Disturbed uses the over under technique and Dan isn't necessarily a virtuoso. You're impressed by sweeps, the over and under technique, and think that he is playing to a slow backing track and he isn't, You are clearly a very inexperienced guitar player. Come back in a couple of years.
@Fluffypopcicle its the fact that he does the up and over technique faster than anyone else, i'd like to see you do it that fast, and also sweeps faster than anyone else with that accuracy, disturbeds music is so slow you can do any technique to it, im also impressed by his double guitar technique and the feeling in his music, aswell as his ability to sweep over the top of the guitar, play crossed over and i like his sci fi stuff aswell, all across the universe is pretty cool
Francesco Fareri did sweeps in his song "Suspension" that equal to 33 nps. Rusty Cooley did sweeps in "Under The Influence" that equal to 24 nps. These are both faster than MAB's top speed and they can both play their stuff cleanly. Disturbed's music isn't slow numbnuts. The bpm is plenty fast enough to rip a good solo and Dan can rip some damn nice solos. The over under technique is his. Of course he does it faster, he uses it more. Nobody else would feel the need to beat him.
@Fluffypopcicle francesco might be able to sweep the same stuff over and over again for 9 minutes and super fast speed, and it was entertaining and mind blowing for about 5 minutes then it got boring, he's not a very good composer, which is what i felt about shawn lane's playing not only that but both were repetetive and got boring after 5 minutes, where as MAB's stuff if you actually listen to it, keeps you on the edge, just check out Time traveler, rain forest, and planet gemini album
@Fluffypopcicle also i didnt say "MAB is the fastest in the world" i said "MAB is the best in the world" its not just his speed that makes him the best, its his feeling, accuracy, ability to play a double guitar (which means ofcourse left and right hand playing different things) also he can play the guitar any way you can think of, he gives true meaning to the phrase "make the guitar an extension of your body" his composing ability and diversity, all of these is why he is the BEST in the WORLD
First of all, I own No Boundaries and 2X Again and plan on buying Planet Gemini once I get the money. I'm a big fan of MAB. That link was a showcase of technical ability and you mentioned "speed and accuracy" as an argument so I gave you stuff faster and just as accurate as MAB. I was just responding to your arguments, that's all. Shawn Lane has plenty of beautiful ballads like Epilogue For Lisa, Get You Back, Not Again etc. he isn't like that link I showed you.
Continuing: for the record, MAB called Shawn Lane the jedi knight of the guitar. There are plenty of shredders that are diverse, can play very technically, have lots of feel, and have unique traits to them. MAB isn't special for mixing these things. Nobody has played the same double guitar that MAB has because NOBODY ELSE FUCKING OWNS ONE!!! However, the fact that there are plenty of people who can play complex things with 2 necks at the same time proves my point.
@Fluffypopcicle so shawn lane is a fat jedi, big woop, he's still a bad composer and lacks the diversity that MAB has, and as for your "NOBODY ELSE FUCKING OWNS ONE!!!" it's not MAB's fault he INVENTED IT! MAB is the master of double guitar playing, no one can do it better than him and being able to do that makes you 2 guitarists technically, MAB can play any style any difficulty, you just haven't listened to enough MAB yet
"however i will admit i thoroughly enjoyed Shawn Lane's guitar playing" you're contradicting yourself there. You're calling a bad composer now for the sake of the argument. How sad that you would sink that low. Shawn Lane invented the crazy ass stuff he did and it can be done on a single-neck guitar. Guess what? Nobody has done it and many have tried.
Continuing: lots of people can play 2 necks at once and considering how the double guitar makes that MORE convenient means that you have no case there. MAB can't play every style. Lets see him play melodic death metal, bossa nova, the blues (with out going into a shredding frenzy), avant-garde, flamenco, spanish classical, Indian music etc. MAB isn't even close to being able to play everything.
@Fluffypopcicle Err, considering his comprehensive musical theory knowledge (which he demonstrates in many videos) and the fact he clearly can play extremely technical stuff, I'm pretty sure he could play all those styles if he really wanted to. Whether he wants to or puts up any videos of him doing that is another thing entirely, but that's not what you're talking about.
You can know all the music theory in the world, but each style requires you to execute it differently. The fact that you don't know this obviously means that you are a novice at best.
@Fluffypopcicle You're saying that as if you can't learn different styles. The fact you appear to not know that obviously means you're good at making assumptions and not much else.
How did I imply that? I didn't imply anything remotely close to that. It's well known that a trait of classical is not repeating something more than twice before going onto new parts. This helps people to focus because repetition puts you in a trance. Metal can do the same thing, but metal artists do it differently. Metal artists typically keep one thing the same, but every 2 times something repeats only 1 or 2 instruments will do something different.
@Fluffypopcicle You implied it by saying "but each style requires you to execute it differently", the implicit reasoning in that statement is that you're arguing that the former can't be achieved because the latter can't be achieved. People can learn different styles, and again, just because someone plays a certain style does not mean they're unable to play anything different. As a musician you make the music you want, that doesn't mean you can't do anything else.
No dumbass, I did not even remotely imply that. You're comprehensive skills are worse than my 9 year old sisters. I said it needed to be executed differently... so fucking what? I never sad that you couldn't execute it differently, I was responding to YOUR clear implication that having a strong foundation in music theory means that you can play any style which is bullshit.
Just about anybody could build up their speed passed the world record holder, but the fact that they "could" can never be used in an argument that the world record holder isn't the fastest.. I'm not sure if you payed attention to the argument, but whether it's possible for him to do these things or not with practice is completely irrelevant.
@Fluffypopcicle It's not irrelevant, it was my entire point. I never once said that he "can" play these styles, you're the one making irrelevant points. I said he "could" play them and you're telling me he "can't" when I never said that he "can" in the first place. Please go research how the English language works and then come back.
@Fluffypopcicle Oh I was wrong, there is more amusement here. That was your comment in the quotes, which appears to have slipped your mind. Further, to your last comment, I never said that you said he "could" play every style, I was the one that said "could" and you started arguing with me on that. I do practise what I preach. Good day sir.
"I never said that you said he "could" play every style" that's the problem dumbshit. I said that he couldn't at the moment and you went off on a rant of how he could. That makes no sense. You quoted my own comment about what I was responding to and said that you were responding to the same thing. in other words, you said that you were responding to yourself.
Continuing: metal usually has the guitar riff play the same thing 4 times, but every 2 times the drum beat changes. Often times the guitar will go from a power chord riff to the same riff but a one string version instead of power chords. It doesn't have as strong of affect as classical, but it still works. Same concept, but used differently. Bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X like doing it this way.
@Fluffypopcicle Shawn lane is pretty good, but if you listen to no boundaries, rain forest, allegory of the cave, basically any MAB song you'll see that the speed / accuracy of MAB's sweeping is harder than what Shawn Lane does, however i will admit i thoroughly enjoyed Shawn Lane's guitar playing (i looked at gray pianos or whatever) and the octave tapping was pretty cool, but i'd like to see him do that on opposite hands on a left handed guitar
MAB's sweeping is a joke compared to playing 8 fret augmented stretches all across the fretboard picking every note at 18 nps. MAB's sweeping is challenging, but Jeff Loomis, Rusty Cooley, and Jason Becker have all done things with sweeping that makes MAB look like a joke. Looking at one song is not a description of Lane's most technical playing. Here is some of his most technically advanced playing watch?v=WhTHxkIllvU MAB can't top this. Nobody can.
@Fluffypopcicle that might be very technical but it was pretty fuckin boring yet again after about 2 - 3 minutes, i think it could be due to lack of feeling and the way the solo was composed made it boring, its 1 thing to play fast, but to play fast with feeling, accuracy and having sick riffs on top of that is what makes a song. As for the nps comment, MAB sweeps at 23.3 nps in no boundaries which he could do it faster, but then it would lose character
MAB is a true musician. It's obvious. A true musician can play any style. Another guitarist that is very versatile is Rick Derringer. Why limit yourself to one thing? It's all music and it's all challenging to be good at. MAB & RD...you guys rock (and smooth jazz if you have to)!
Imagine someone hearing this on a smooth jazz station, they like it and they go out and buy a Batio cd. The get it home, pour a glass of wine with dinner, put the cd in and Freight Train comes blasting at them.
Michael is accurate, articulate and talented in every style that he plays. Plus - it always sounds like him. This is a really cool track. Trolls talk trash. MAB is awesome!

You can know all the music theory in the world, but each style requires you to execute it differently. The fact that you don't know this obviously means that you are a novice at best.
Fluffypopcicle 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle You're saying that as if you can't learn different styles. The fact you appear to not know that obviously means you're good at making assumptions and not much else.
Blackberry7620 4 months ago
@Blackberry7620
Fluffypopcicle 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle You implied it by saying "but each style requires you to execute it differently", the implicit reasoning in that statement is that you're arguing that the former can't be achieved because the latter can't be achieved. People can learn different styles, and again, just because someone plays a certain style does not mean they're unable to play anything different. As a musician you make the music you want, that doesn't mean you can't do anything else.
Blackberry7620 4 months ago
@Blackberry7620
Fluffypopcicle 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle I said "could", not "can", brush up on your comprehension.
Blackberry7620 4 months ago
@Blackberry7620
Just about anybody could build up their speed passed the world record holder, but the fact that they "could" can never be used in an argument that the world record holder isn't the fastest.. I'm not sure if you payed attention to the argument, but whether it's possible for him to do these things or not with practice is completely irrelevant.
Fluffypopcicle 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle It's not irrelevant, it was my entire point. I never once said that he "can" play these styles, you're the one making irrelevant points. I said he "could" play them and you're telling me he "can't" when I never said that he "can" in the first place. Please go research how the English language works and then come back.

@Blackberry7620
I originally said that MAB can't play every style. I didn't say couldn't. Practice what you preach.
Fluffypopcicle 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle I wasn't talking about that.
" I was responding to YOUR clear implication that having a strong foundation in music theory means that you can play any style which is bullshit."
That was what I was replying to, where you were making things up.
Anyway I think I've worn out all the amusement I can get from this, shame, thought you'd be able to go for longer. Ah well.
Blackberry7620 4 months ago
@Blackberry7620
So you were replying to yourself? That's pretty sad.
Fluffypopcicle 3 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle Oh I was wrong, there is more amusement here. That was your comment in the quotes, which appears to have slipped your mind. Further, to your last comment, I never said that you said he "could" play every style, I was the one that said "could" and you started arguing with me on that. I do practise what I preach. Good day sir.
Blackberry7620 3 months ago
@Blackberry7620

@Blackberry7620

@metalguitarZomg2 You did not just insult Shawn Lane...
UnknownSect333 4 months ago
@metalguitarZomg2 @metalguitarZomg2 quit it. MAB himself would not appreciate it if you insult Shawn Lane.

metalguitarZomg2 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle and i ask you, have you actually tried doing the up and over technique as fast as MAB? its not exactly easy
metalguitarZomg2 4 months ago
@Fluffypopcicle Shawn lane is pretty good, but if you listen to no boundaries, rain forest, allegory of the cave, basically any MAB song you'll see that the speed / accuracy of MAB's sweeping is harder than what Shawn Lane does, however i will admit i thoroughly enjoyed Shawn Lane's guitar playing (i looked at gray pianos or whatever) and the octave tapping was pretty cool, but i'd like to see him do that on opposite hands on a left handed guitar
metalguitarZomg2 4 months ago
@metalguitarZomg2
Nobody can.
Fluffypopcicle 4 months ago

@fluffypopsicle hell no! I'm a true Metalhead!
Im a trashy Metalhead. Why would you assume that I'm into fucking mainstream music just for not liking this song?
Fuck Mainstream! Today's music sucks.
The good music is the old stuff like this guy and many others.
I didn't say it sucks, it just sounds too classy.
I'm Not feeling it.
I preferred New Day instead.
It sounds Medieval and Melodic, and I think that's cool.
