I tried for 18 months to catch a corbina, using soft and (hard shelled) sand crabs. The sneaky blighters chewed the crabs off my line, or the perch would interfere and hook themselves on the line first. I wasn't trying to catch surf perch. I wanted a corbina. I once almost outsmarted one by using a small number 10 hook, and very small but lively sand crab. So the corbina took it in one gulp and didn't chew on it. As is usually the case with them. Sorry not enough space on this post to tell..
I fish the surf of torrey pines/blacks beach in la jolla and i cant spot corbina at all. I catch them though using soft shell sand crab. Any tips on how to spot them?
@isdakongsupot Obviously you have a limited vocabulary as well as a limited knowlege of what a California Corbina is, and by the way I was catching, and eating Corbina before you were born. Study the species before you speak. By the way, nice fish.
Usually you see them really close to shore feeding on sand crabs. Sometimes they get so close to shore that you can see their black dorsal fin sticking out of the water. They are so fun to catch.

Sure hope that fish wasn't intended for release, because sandy fingers jammed up into gills are no good!

Great fish. Please spread the word if. If you are going to release, the worst thing you can do is put your fingers in the fishes gills!
Peace
