  • Is this the broom cupboard?

  • @SuperCmac84 Yup...

  • Dappa

  • love it!

  • I never realised at the time how supercool Philip was. Excellent.

  • Used to watch this as an alternative to homework.

  • Thinking about the countdown running on Phil's monitor - was Ulysses 31 etc mostly cued up on telecine? Just that I'd have expected to have seen the VT clock otherwise...

  • love it good times no hate or racist just happy to ba british

  • Fantastic! I thought I was the only wone who remembered this way back then!

  • @Alan7997 This cartoon was weird.

  • @rojblake82 Yeah, the feeling of it was a bit....off.

  • That is quality. I think people don't realise just how dark a show Ulysses actually was.

  • @firekind1980 I found this show depressing sorry to have to say it.

  • @rojblake82 Even though it was a kids cartoon, it did have a more adult feel to it. I loved it but it certainly wasn't for every kid.

  • @theblazingangel I think kids tv was like that back then. I don't know if I'd call it adult, just kids werent ask talked down to as much as they are nowadays. Look at something like Tintin that had very mature storylines for children.

  • All Hail ! 1980's forever

  • Ah the broom cupboard, good times :)

  • remember when Gordan and pip wore matching biker jackets? he,he

  • THE HIGHPOINT OF HIS CAREER.

This, and sitting in close proximity to Holly Willoughbys incredible breasts.

    Lucky, lucky bastard.

To all the international viewers who have just googled Holly, stop masturbating you filthy foreign scum! Those are british tits for british eyes only!

  • Ahhhhh the good old days when kids tv was good & presenters had control..lol.. Loved Ulysses 31 >>>>> ;-)

  • Why would anyone hate this? .. The tune is awesome - and it's great to see a presenter with such genuine enthusiasm.

  • @kingstonlj it is a rubbish cartoon and the theme tune, is annoying too.

  • @rojblake82

you're a rubbish human being and you don't even have a theme tune so shut the fuck up.

  • @RENN357 I say peace and I just did not like this cartoon sorry mat.

  • @rojblake82

Are you kidding man, it's rare to find someone who didn't like this when they were a kid, Peace :)

  • gay

  • Oh wow! I did the exact same thing with the miming except I had a hairbrush...and I was surrounded by my Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shortcake and Cabbage Patch dolls...

  • Oh wow! I did the exact same thing with the miming except I had a hairbrush...

  • I probably watched this very episode when I was a boy, and now my hair has started turning grey.

    DAMN YOU SCHOFIELD!!!

  • philip schofield watched this again on youtube a few years ago and it made his hair turn grey

  • @rojblake82 by jove old chap, what what.

  • @rojblake82 So you made it absolutely clear you hated it then; you just wanted to come here to be a very silly and cute little troll. Need a kiss?

  • What a load of old crap this tune was bloody embarrassing to listen to the programmme was a load of old, tosh and Philip Schofield singing this crummy tune is even worse. It was one programme I hated and would not watch again in billions of years it was rubbish and bosh.

  • @rojblake82 Yet you not only when to the effort of finding this clip on Youtube but also wrote one of the longest comments on the page.

  • gordon the gopher's the cutest ! :-D Jeez, I remember this studio like yesterday and Philip Schofield looks as he should do !!!

  • Phil was a great presenter gordon rocked too :)

  • I was 4 when this happened and I'm sure I can remember him and andy peters in the broom-cupboard. I don't care how pc or educational kids tv has to be these days but those two always looked like they were having real fun not this over babyish attitude we seem to have no. Show me show me is rubbish bring on u31 the return

  • he should've been a butlins redcoat

  • Why can't they do stuff like this any more?

  • Ahh the 80's, while kids was too busy watching life-lesson cartoons all day in America, kids in Britain were rocking to Philip Schofield, Mike Read, & Saturday Superstore!!!

  • @JoseTwitterFan You mean He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra, Transformers, Thundercats, Wheeled Warriors, and, oh, what was that other one? Oh yes, Ulysses 31? Those the ones you mean? Those were all classics, mate!

  • @MaskedMan66 Ulysses 31 was a French production with Japanese animators.

  • @JakeLabz So it was, but it was part of the animation renaissance of the 80's which was spearheaded by the shows I mentioned. As a matter of fact, I recall watching "Ulysses 31" in English on one channel, then switching to another to watch it in Spanish.

  • I remember Schofield doing this great mime to Ulysseys 31, from the broom cupboard I think. I was 27 at the time, [I grew up late].

  • @SimonCowel that was the joke i was making???

  • The 80's was the golden years of cartoons, simply magic.

  • Superb clip that I remember it well and loved it -thanks for making me laugh my arse off and bringing back some great memories!!!!!

  • This brought a tear to my eye

  • what nobody ever realises is that there is no person holding up gordon the gopher, it's all philip schofield.

  • @njgify How does he show both his hands during this clip then? Twat.

  • Whatever happend to the days when TV was entertaining? God I miss being a kid.

  • useless knees!! WOoo quality cartoon!!

  • I was 6 :-(

  • damn, that ulysses looks awesome!

  • I wonder if anyone's got a recording of the time when the pot plant they used to have in the Broom Cupboard had shed some leaves. Philip Schofield sang along to Ulysses 31, with 'Useless leaves'!

  • Comment removed

  • haha omg ulyesses!! now that i am older and well aware, ulyesses is like based on the galactic federation ..pleiadians etc

  • BCC after 3*30 rocked!

  • gordon the gopher , what a legend !

  • @cujo9 Definitly!

He could kick Edd the Ducks arse.

    : )

  • Wonderful memories of the Broom Cupboard. Let's face it, if you were alone and that song came on the TV you'd be doing exactly the same thing.

  • Awesome. Period.

  • OMG this is invaluable!! haha

  • I remember Phillip Schofield sing Ulysses 31 when it first aired.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane

  • You know he would rather be singing Ulysses than presenting dancing on ice

  • @mbache1985 at least he knew the words and could sing, unlike Andy Crane who read them from a cue card. Also he didn't mind making a fool of himself.

He probably not much older there than the audience.

  • he hasnt changed much, still crazy XD

  • I forgot how much fun Phillip Schofield was in the Broom Cupboard back then. I remember something similar being done with either Willy Fog, The Mysterious Cities of Gold and Dogtanian- did Schof or one of the other presenters produce songsheets that you could write in for?

  • I remember this bit!

  • so gay

  • @NeutralDice yes... yes you are.

  • @shadyMrPatch A British homosexual was offended

  • Wow!

  • awsomenesssssssss ;D i sooooo loved that show haha

  • I remember this, cant get better than the broom cupboard and eighties cartoons

  • Awesome,

  • Oh, I actually remember watching this 'live' with my sister and singing along. We still laugh about it now, brilliant!

  • A trip on memory lane for sure!

  • i love it, scoff is well fit

  • WOW! I remember Philip and Gordon doing this little 'Ditty' and for some reason always stuck in my mind. Never thought i'd see this again. Big follower of Ulysses then. I was about 10 years old. Good times, Good times..

  • @morrismagic08 Me too

Don't know why it stuck in my mind. 33 yrs old

  • @morrismagic08 same here lol everytime i saw anything to do with Ulysses i thought of this lol

  • @morrismagic08 Ulysses was a load of old crap so was the theme tune, I could have died from embarrassment listening to it watching the programme was also tortourous and embarrassing.

  • @rojblake82 Now maybe, but at the time it was the dog's bollox.

  • @morrismagic08 I say I hated this show and the tune enormously and always will do.

  • @rojblake82 Yeah, ok mate.

  • @rojblake82 PISS OFF!

  • @hazley13 This is crap mate and it was embarrassing to watch, and listen to the patetic tune ulysses, ulysses. What a load of old balderdash it was,.it was tortuorous man.

  • OMG, thank god for youtube...so many memories, thosde were the best days, thankyou so much for posting X

  • oh...the memories :)

  • I got a gordon the gopher one christmas, but I dropped him out the car window by accident whilst he was 'flying' on the way home from Tesco. I'll never forget.

Mentally scared me forever I can tell you.

  • Ahh yes the days when the starting song took up a quarter of the cartoon

  • 1987, THE BEST DAYS EVER!!

  • yes 80s ruled

  • Am i still cool if I remember singing this???

I actually think he told us he was going to do it so we could all have a hairbrush to sing into....(CRINGE!!!!)

  • LMFAO !

    80's rock.

  • pre-going live he was a great kids tv presenter 2. Ulysees 31, mask, jayce & the wheeled warriors, centurions, battle of the planets, top cartoons!

  • XD oh goddamn Schofield yes

  • Can anyone out there tell me if Ulysses 31 is available on DVD. The theme tune is fantastic. I only wish I knew all the words. It would be a good carrieoke song especially after a few pints! Philip Schofield might be somewhat embarrassed to see this, but I think he's simply brilliant. I seem to remember him taking over from the spinning world with the broom cupboard and Gordon the Gofer.

  • Indeed it is, I bought the boxset at HMV

  • Philip Schofield rocks!

  • I remember singing the theme to Mysterious cities of gold and 80 days around the world too. Back when cartoons werent just endless sight gags and plotless relationship based drivel. Even bad cartoons had great theme music, remember jamie and his magic torch?

  • @hermankatnip I'm pretty sure it was Andy Crane who sung along with Willy Fog theme. That said I agree about cartoons today.

  • @hermankatnip JAMIE! JAMIE! Jamie and his Magic Torch!

  • @hermankatnip

    Loved that intro too.

  • fucking loved this cartoon when i were a kid and i actualy rember them to singing to it when i came home from school one day lol

  • Ok, whoever came up with this cartoon was doing a LOT of drugs
