  • S2000 is way Faster than that old m3

  • SICK VIDEO!....

  • sounds crazy

  • This really beats drag racing.

  • 2:20 sick chincane!

  • this a cool vid ......nice driving , both cars very quick ,ive had a ep3 type r and now have a e36 m3evo and tracked both .... m3 has more legs at top and super balanced so even though it does not pull as well as the honda at low speeds it handles better going faster into the corners without any drama ....

  • You are a much better driver than the M3. However, I feel like if there were two evenly skilled drivers to drive each car than the M3 would win. Still though, it did very well in this video considering it was probably 7+ years older than the Honda.

  • @DxExX very true

  • is that a stock s2000? if not what are the mods?

  • 'this fool is running an s2000...i'll win'

  • great video liked it. That Bimmer is fast in those corners.very light on its wheels.

  • Sounds like a swarm of killer bees

  • s2000 should practice more on heal and toe, not good matching

  • @TheDarko1986 The only shift he miss are upshifting where heal and toe are useless. The problem is the clutch, at the end of the video you can hear the "slippery" clutch, need to change it.

  • @Bladespa Darko means rev matching, when he was downshifting. I didnt hear 1 rev match in the whole video either, in his downshifts, which is what Dark meant. Problem definitely isnt the clutch.

  • bad rev matching in s2000 !

  • That M3 is quick

  • was the camera in a s2000??? it sure doesnt look like one

  • @munkeyman90 Yea man, you can tell from the dash. You can see the climate controls to the right of the stearing wheel. Plus you can tell by the sound alone.

  • A+ for stock BMW torque...if only it could wind up like the s2000:)

  • i thought i saw a prius

  • Two thumbs up, exciting video

  • vtec

  • Great video. 2 Great cars and drivers.

  • Stock M3.....

  • Damn Whats the C/R? Sounds So High! My dream S2k build

  • is it the stock gearing you got in da back ??? cauz the gearing is just perfect 4 this track... Maybe 4.77 final ?? And i must say u r a really g@@d driver...

The BMW guy drive well too, just look at the body roll of his M3, you got a much better suspension and / or suspension settings than him...

Nice drive, Nice video, Nice car, I want more !!!!!

  • one thing I noticed is how much he fights to get control when he starts to lose it, while the m3 is likely just cruising along like nothing. s2000s are impressive, but the m3 is a better track car. though mad props for keeping up. Shame honda decided to kill the s2000, the only rwd drive in their lineup that deserved to be called a sports car. Now they stick badges and racing crap on civics and camrys are say "SPORTS CAR!"

  • @Shadowpillar I see the BMW rear wheels lifting, and back end jumping around. I would think the BMW is fighting the wheel even more so. An even matchup on this track for sure. After driving both cars in Monterey I have to say the S is far more enjoyable, but that might be due to the convertible top being down.

  • What bhp is the M3? A euro 321bhp or is it the watered down homo version?

  • @chaptainchaos maybe it was one of the earlier 286bhp version... ;)

  • @olivgi there isnt much of a difference..ive driven both cars.but american m3 are shit due the shitty laws

  • I like the fact that you guys caught up to those 2 Ferraris!

  • Advice: Driving in gravel is not good.

  • This video is a fine example of why I can't watch just one YouTube video...

  • I think that we can say the E36 won that as it pulled way ahead at the end. The video stopped right before the E36 BMW overtook the Ferrari 360.

  • Great video, proud to own an E36. That bmw driver was hitting some great track lines....the s200 wasnt bad either.

  • GREAT VIDEO BRO!!

  • Omg u got skills..!! i still do my trackday by driving my evo through grass.!

  • I'm surprised nobody has commented on the fact that these are Euro market cars. Its easier to follow someone around on a track than it is to lead. You have the advantage of seeing the mistakes of the person in front of you and make the needed correction to avoid making the same mistakes. It takes an exceptionally skilled and talented driver to lead well and stay ahead of the pack.

  • I love how the high revving engine in the bmw makes it sound like a straight up nascar.

  • Nice video. E36 driver was the worse driver, but made up for it with the grunt out of the corners. Love these cars.

  • Most E36 owners install a Signature Motoring performance intake kit for around 9HP gain. Cost is a mere $150 or so, best value per HP gain in the E36 line.

Install time if only about 30-45 minutes in most applications. I have one in my 94 325i cabrio.

Crazy nice sound. Most performance guys install a Signature Motoring performance intake kit for around 9HP gain in the E30.

Install time is about 30 min, maybe 45 for two left hands. LOL

  • 2 great cars...but as an M3 owner i am biased: ///M power!

  • i wanted to c the m3 pass the ferrari

  • He's not pushing the car to its limit?? o_o

  • Good driving skills dude, thanks for the vid!

  • us spec m3 had 240hp s2000 has 200+- but honda is much lighter than m3. so the 2 cars are very close in performance terms and comes down 2 driver error and skil. That being said the ero spec m3 has a 3.2l engine producing 321hp and will kill a s2000 hands down on track and straights. Both cars incredible machines but not in same class

  • @Frany520i The S2000 has 237HP. SO the same as the US spec M3 and weighs a lot less.

  • @29ryan49 so its supose to beat the us m3 then but bmw made a master piece and u cant kill a legend. m3 rocks for what it is s2000 is an amazing car but lacs lateral grip cuz its a soft top so it flexes way more than the bmw couzing it to lose grip cuz of structual rigity

  • @Frany520i What you're forgetting is that the S2000 was BUILT as a roadster, not a coupe turned convertible, the chassis on these S2000 are actually quite stiff and they're known to be some of the funnest track cars.

  • @29ryan49 i agree m3 and s2000 is awsome cars. simplest reason why i love these 2 cars is the s2000 is a 2liter pushing out 237hp WITHOUT a turbo or any kind of aspiration and the euro m3 3.2l and 321hp. more than 100hp per liter now thats engeneering perfection. another under rated car from honda is the NSX now that is a beast. s2000 is a toy compared to that

  • 2 absolute fabulous cars

  • 2 of the sickest NA engines ever built!!

  • @mmdaniels33 Then the 6.3L V8 from the new SLS came out lmao.

  • @HeyMan096 I didnt want to respond back to your comment because it was so stupid, I didnt fell the need to. That 6.3l v8 engine you speak of.. is a piece of trash. It only makes 571hp. Thats less than 100hp per litre. F20c is 120hp per litre. The M3 inline 6 makes 100hp per litre. What makes these 2 cars and engines more impressive.. is that most people can afford them. Ferrari can make NA engines to reach over 100hp per litre quite easily.. but look at the price tag on them.

  • @mmdaniels33 Its an STi or just the Wrx?

  • @HeyMan096 sti

  • @mmdaniels33 How much do you want for it? What year and what state do you live in? lol Milage?

  • @HeyMan096 I have a 94 RHD wrx sti.. BPU with some serious suspension upgrades. I live in canada.. so you wouldnt be able to bring it down. Its an absolute monster. I have a video on my profile of it running like shit last fall. Its Running pretty good now though.. I love the car. I raced my buddies s2000 from a roll and the s2k didnt even have a chance.

  • @mmdaniels33 Ahh i see, dammit. but yeah I'll check it out.

  • @HeyMan096 These are absolute throttle response machines.. Amazing track engines and cars.

  • @mmdaniels33 Yeah I know, just joking, I used to own an s2k then had to sell it when I got a family going. Only complaint was the incredibly small space inside, I'm only 5' 9" and it was like putting on a wet suit everyday to go to work lol.

  • @HeyMan096 It does not have trunk space and such.. But for 2 people I feel that its quite roomy. It has a very nice cockpit feel to it. The best I have ever sat in actually. I cant say enough good things about the s2000. I cant wait to sell my WRX and buy one. The moment i drove the car i was just hooked.

  • @mmdaniels33 agreed

  • @mmdaniels33 im with you bad ass straight sixes and 240 hp two liters hell yea who cares about the badge we all love to haul ass

  • @mmdaniels33 what does NA stand for? Nice Ass?

  • @tnguy93 Naturally aspirated.

  • nice race..

  • Insane car! Love the way the Honda sounds!

  • my dream

  • sweet, how is this type of race called? I like this better then nascar or formula 1

  • M POWER

  • Later on the brakes, you would've had him! Nice lines though.

  • cool superbe sound s2000 et vive bmw aussi..

  • Theres a difference between a true enthususiast and wanna be enthusiast who mods their car with body kits and JDM crap and never ever drive em like they are meant to be. Now this dude in the S2000 is an amazing driver and the car itself is amazing. I love BMW's especially the E36 M3, I had one but sold it (kicking myself). Right now im driving a Mazdaspeed 6, its ok, but wish I really kept the M3.

  • that is not an "M"3 E36!?!?.....??? o_O *confused*

it has no white turn lights...and the rear bumper is also stock....but the exhaust tip looks like an M3 (dual pipe)...and the rear wing of course

i mean WTF?! am i missing something here?!

  • Considering it bests all of the competition in it's class including the M class z3 I'd say it's not too shabby. Best bang for the buck! It's a vert! What's not to love about that?!

  • Love the sound of my car...Oh yeah that would be the s2k BMW's are for panty waistes with crew neck sweaters and penny loafers.

  • @saxjonz keep living in your own fantasy world where Honda is better than M cars... nooo way! here in the real world is not like that. Bimmers are da shit and will kill hondas like nothing to compare.

  • NO WAY BMW THE BEST ,)

  • FWIW - this IS NOT a race - it's a track day. Look at all the cars they passed - a couple of Miatas (no roll bars), a Mazda MX-3.

And the S2000, sheesh talk about horrible lines... he is ALL over the place.

  • @percymchow horrible lines? Granted he could have been a bit tidier in some places but they were far from horrible. Explain how exactly they were horrible?

  • is this stock s2000 ??

  • @Distructionemo no way a stock s2k will keep up with a bmw M3 ! S2k's are not that fast at all, well at least not fast enough to keep up with a E36 M3. I know cuz I've own a 2006 s2k and now I have a E36 328is and they're pretty close keep in mind I have no chance vs an M3. you make the math.

  • pure garbage what is it soccer moms driving day

  • just to clarify to everyone it is a 95 m3, because Avus blue was only offered on that year. also the 95 only came in coupes.

  • its a pitty that the video stops when the almost are passing a ferrari!!

  • BMW ///M > HONDA

  • this track is the same as that in RACE GRID :P

  • havent you ever thought that just maybe the games is based on real tracks??

  • the honda driver sucks at downshifting.

    didnt rev match right once.

  • nice

  • Good race. I think the M3 is as quick as the 2000, the 2000 driver was better at lines, The M3 started to get better towards the end. Nice vid.

    M3 for me please.

  • Great vid!

  • if this is the u.s version then why does it have a non u.s license plate? imported car?

  • Some people are retards. Just to clear some things up.

S52US = 3.2L US engine =240 hp more TQ more restrictive mani)

    S50US=3.0L US=240hp(less TQ)

    S50B32=euro=321bhp

    S50B30=euro=286 bhp

    S54=E46 M3=333hp (US)

In the video, that is a US 4 door model which means it could only have been a 97 or 98 which means it is OBII which means it has the 3.2L engine.

  • @I3LUD how do you know it's a us 4 door model? it has a euro plate...

  • hahaha mr m3 buff... sorry that is a 95 2 door... us model... they didnt make that avus blue in any other e36... just the 95... sorry just had to CLEAR up your little mistake buddy aha

  • everything you wrote is wright but its a coupe and not a sedan ore a limo what it wouldt be cald in the us!!

  • v-tec for the win

  • Love the VTEC sound!

  • tail lights on the e36 were amber corners, meaning it's a US m3, meaning it's 240hp not 321, equivalent to the US s2k pretty much, there is no real horsepower advantage here for the m3

  • The E36 is also a 4 seater that weighs 300+ more pounds than the S2000

  • nah both original other exhast system,, i think s2000 is great hanging after a m3 with more power. Its japanese engineering;)

  • the m3 doesnt have more power... the m3 has 240 hp if its an american m3 and weights more than the s2000 but theyre about even me and my friend race those cars alot

  • i feel soo sorry for the 350z because that car has way more HP and torque than the s2k and it still managed to be extremely close to the Z. Good job honda! 2.2 L

  • this M3 is 3.0 286hp or 3.2 321hp ?

  • this is an E36 M3 is 3.2L 265 BHP

    the E46 is also 3.2L 334 BHP

  • The e36 3.2 m3 had 316 bhp (321ps)

  • My goodness! So much slow traffic on the track. Very nice clip. I liked seeing the driving and variety of cars there.

  • is m3 standard? He is doing pretty well against what looks like a pretty heavily modified s2000, sequential box and what sounds like a bombed motor.

  • ummm. theres no sequential in that car, you can see him shifting through the full manual patern and that sounds like it has ITBs. Wtf are you talking about "bombed motor?"

  • yeah, sorry about the sequential comment, just realised he is moving the lever in a H pattern. I assumed it was sequential due to the fast shifting (didn't look closely) and if it were sequential it would indicate a racing "dog box" (square toothed gears). Bombed is slang in australia for a race motor that has been heavily moddified, big cams, crank moddification, ect, ect.

  • looks like a short shifter not sequential

  • and this e36 on slicks :).

Congratulations Celima.Success with ur new Lotus :).

  • nice driving skill you got.... :D

  • That guy is one hell of a driver...

  • excellent! did i see a f430 at the end?

  • nice driving!

  • Great video!...Having owned an E36 325is and now i have 05 S2000 i can tell you that s2000 drives like a race car, but i have drove e36 m3s as well...s2000 lack of torq around corners makes it a little hard on the driver. But at the same time M3 has way more luxury feel as you know which makes it heavy and has too much body roll compare to the S...which is nearly flat. It always comes down to your mods and the driver. even a moded civic can take both cars any day.

    but I love both cars...

  • Both great cars and it's stupid to talk about wat which car is superior because of the lag of info about the mods..

The Beamer didnt let him pass and the Honda didnt get behind.

Great camera montage by the way.

Is sweet to the whole windscreen!

  • its amazing to see the BMW driver throw that car around like nothing.... i love Honda NSX and S2000 and my dad loves BMW's.... i see y now :-)

  • the E36 M3 owned u!!! :D

  • He definitely needed to stop hitting the shoulders in the corners.. you could see the car bounce around losing grip everytime he hit them. He hit the rev limited several times, too

  • meh, found some times, they're quite odd.

    The E36 did a faster lap than the E46 - an 8:20. That's a remarkable lap. The 3.0 would therefore probably be a 8:30-8:40, the S2000 is 8:38. So they're pretty close.

  • Poor clutch :((

Other than that, nice lines. I'm pretty impressed that the E36 managed to stay ahead but then we don't know if it was thanks to the driver or the car.

  • do you realy think a s2000 is faster than a euro E36 3.0 M3??????

  • Having driven both and soon to be owning both, yes. The M3 3.0 lacks the agility of the Honda that the 3.2 makes up for with more power.

This could be resolved with the Nurburgring times, any idea what it is for the 3.0 M3?

  • no i driven it 6 month ago that whas the second time i drove the nurburgring, and i did it 10 min something like that, next time i am gonna bring a stopwatch!!!!

  • german car,

    german power!^^

    BMW > ALL

  • S2000 sounds great! Nothing went past them so they can't of being doing that badly!

  • Very erratic driving from the S2000, you'd probably be much better if you paid for some tutoring and learn how to hell & toe / balance the throttle.

M3 is much heavier so he did well to stay ahead, looked as though the 2000 had more straight line power. Orange indicators on the M so it's obviously a 280 horse 3.0 model

  • the e36 m3 and S200 are pretty evenly matched cars . The M3 driver was a little smoother and was out braking the S2000 driver by alot wich is were he was gaining ground on him .

  • Cool Vid! That S2K sounds sweet!

  • Good driving by both drivers.

    M3 FTW!! but i like s2000 alot.

  • great tune on that s2000 - is that stock or short shifter on the s2000? the throw looks incredibly narrow, very nice

  • Has anybody noticed that both cars catched up a ferrari modena?

  • haha i noticed the same thing, hes prolly just out there to show off his car

  • Nice racing! S&M

  • what happened to the speedo? By the way, is this stock??

  • both cars are awesome

it just depends what you need 4seater or 2seater imo

i can imagine lot of fun

im about to get a 1997 bmw 328i but hope i will still have fun :)

  • That... is the most beautiful recording of the S2000's engine I have ever heard. Excellent driving, too!

  • nice video

  • very hot video!!! great sound and great raceing ;-)

  • great drivers .... they are realy good on their trajectory

  • what spec is the e36? 3.0 us spec? or europe 3.2 evo 321hp? i drive the later model my self but lets face it, the honda is a damned good car! and if im not mistaken 8 years younger in developement? Its always up to the driver but on the straights the honda catches up, that wouldnt happend if it was the 321hk model.

  • The only 3.0 m3 is a US 95 the rest are 3.2

  • good match up

  • For what its worth, both drivers are awesome and the cars are awesome and it shows how both drivers compliments there skills with what car there driving...

  • Btw, under racing conditions, the low torque AT THE CRANK, is nearly moot. If you don't mind revving, the torque AT THE REAR WHEELS (where it actually matters) due to the high redline compensates nicely. The driver will be in VTEC during racing. While it's true you may not have a wide a powerband as you would like, that isn't the reason most of the posters post the ignorant comments they do. They just don't know what gear multiplication is. Horsepower ties in torque and gearing with an equation.

  • The problem with these videos is that people (from both sides) exhibit useless pride in the heat of their emotions. I'm partial to the S2000's driving dynamics but am ashamed at some of the exaggerated pro-S2000 posts. As well as the overglorified and assuming pro-E36 posts. Sigh... never ending oneupmanship game. In most cases, the US E36 and the S2000 are pretty similar - a matter of driving preference and the driver will be the major factor, by and large.

  • @S2kDriver80 It's nice to see an intelligent post comment on videos like these once in a while. I agree, well said.

  • This is in an italian race track, dunno exactly which one.

There's many videos of this S2000 on the web, google for "Celima S2000" and you can find more of them.

I was surprised with the pace of the M3, afterall it's more than 10 years old and it's holding it's own against a well modified S2000 with a very fast driver.

You can see that the S2000 was let down by it's harder suspension when going over the kerbs, he slowed down abit there while the M3 seemed to go flat out...

  • Pinadud, please do some research before u comment...man.

  • thats a euro m3, they come with either 280 or 320hp.

totally different beast from the usdm e36 m3.

  • Either 286hp or 321hp.. You need to know man!

  • Also the s2k is modded.

  • Lets keep in mind that the m3 is a 13 year old car and the s2k is fairly new. The m3 is still ahead of the pack and still ahead of it's time. Way to set the bar Bmw!

  • Both excellent cars and two of my favorites.

  • yo i want that momo corse steering wheel so bad its the best

  • Or Momo Champion, same as in the Ferrari F-40 and Ferrari 348

  • is it s2000 turbocharged?

  • no its not turbo man! idiot

  • i have asked if is turbocharged u fool!

how do u kno is not tubocharged?

    have a e36 318is and i have fitted a turbo.

u can stick a turbo in eveytin.

    even in a moped

  • If it was turbocharged you could tell by the sound!

  • that is freaking music to my ears love the sound of vtec

  • I've got both. o3's. The BMW does give me comfort and looks. But the S amazes me with such a little engine plus it is a convertible. And I don't think a M3 convertible (375 lbs heavier) would outperform the s. Plus a Z3 (1.9 l 4 cyl) has never outperformed the s. Not even the 3.0 l just the M edition Z3 and Z4. In order to make a fair comparison.

  • Referring to the international engine of the year for 2005 proves that Honda's aren't built for consistent high revs how? In 2006 the IRL adopted Honda as it's SOLE supplier for engines. Also in 2006 for FIRST time in HISTORY the Indianapolis 500 was raced without a single engine problem. Coincidence?

  • but at the same time, ive got an obd1 m52 that eats hondas alive, so ill we can put it this way, stock vs stock, two drivers of equal skill. than thats really the only way to tell

  • That looks like fun. I'll tell you what the s2000 cornering gets the m3 every time.

S2000 is light and has sharp handling and for a 2.2l inline 4 @ 250hp that's not bad at all. It's built for the track.

  • right off the lot, its still a honda which means its got NO torque, no way it could reach top speed as fast as an m3 and run consistantly for longer periods of time at max speed, like i said, its nt built for that, M3= yes, S2k =no

  • trying telling the track guys at s2ki that the s200 can't run and isn't built for consistent long periods of time under hard driving.
