I agree with you that this is an excellent rendition of a charming and difficult aria. Benelli is an excellent leggiero tenor, and the perfect kind of voice to sing it. The extreme top is impressive. I must add that I think Lemeshev and/or Gedda (even though he recorded it) would be second choices, not because they were not superb tenors, but because neigther was as flexible as Benelli, and extreme flexibility is everything for this aria.
Superb performance! The best version of my favorite aria from Fra Diavolo I've heard so far! I wish it was more complete..The cabaletta was very very very well done..not only the high notes are there, the smoothness of delivery and the elegance with which it was sung are all there..It's a pity the old Gedda was the one who recorded this in the studio. If only...
