This basically goes out to COD fans and relationships. CoD fans keep playing the same game every year thinking "oh maybe it will be different in the next one or its totally different". In relationships, girls continue to date assholes thinking they are good guys and end up getting heart broken.

The difference between Black Ops and MW3 is quite noticeable, MW3 having an entirely different and much noobier kill streak system, nooby death streaks, no recoil, terrible maps, "death streaks", a different spawning system, new game modes, changes to existing game modes, etc etc. Not to mention the difference between CoD3 and CoD4 is huge, almost being from a different series.

When you play enough FPS games, you start to understand the whole formula and figure out how old it quickly gets. It's just another over hyped FPS war game with different maps guns and some slight mode tweaks.

I'm going to use Silent Hill as an example for my point. It's gone on for 11-12 years now, and has been going downhill since. But at least they tried to reinvent things: Added combat, taking it away, different perspectives, story, characters, everything they did past Silent Hill 3 changed from the original formula. Not always for better, but in some ways it keeps the series fresh.

There isn't a damn game in the whole genre where you can't figure out the formula on the fly. Call of Duty, Battlefield, whatever you wanna praise, it's nothing new. Only overused and over hyped.

@LiNaK37 If you look at your average first person shooter, especially war shooters, you'll notice there is little to distinguish it from other FPS titles. Just take some time to think about it. I believe Game Informer had a flow chart that shows just much diversity the genre is lacking.

Just so you know, I'm not trying to attack you, or make you hate or turn against the games. Like I said we all have opinions. c: If you like em, that's fine. These games just don't appeal to me, though.

@XxKyubiKunxX There's quite a bit of difference between Quake and CoD, Halo and Battlefield, Counter-Strike and Tribes, etc. Even between similar shooters such as CoD and Battlefield the game mechanics vary quite a bit, CoD having a focus on 4 v 4 team battles with a large emphasis on map control, and using teamwork to control the map by locking down lines of sight while maintaining an offense on the objective, while BF quite different. You are incorrect, I'm afraid to say.

First person games can be a wonderful thing, if companies would allow a little more diversity and originality to them. Things like Amnesia, Portal, Mirrors Edge are all good examples of what the first person genre should be.
