Wow, the sonata looked good, even back then. Looks like it was always a well built car. Loved seeing those power rear seats. They should have put them in again in the 2011's!

The 8o's were really the dark ages for the auto industry. The cars were large, boxy, & bland. Good thing I wasn't around.

Power sliding rear seat! That's really weird. I don't know why everyone is so shocked it has cruise control. That's been around for decades. It looks like an '87 Nissan Sentra.

I removed a cluster from a parts Stellar recently, and on the back of it in the PCB it said "Sonata LHD"

They were sold in Canada until 1988, where, for that year only, it had fuel injection.

YOu could do away with the whole SOHC mess and put in a DSM 4G63 DOHC. It bolts in, same block and identical mount points.

The final 2 years in Canada (87-88) featured Stellar with 2000cc motor with fuel injection plus the body work that you see in this commercial with the "euro" headlamps, improved interior with the see-through Audi like head rests etc... I remember calling it the poorman's Audi with my friends...

the prior models were aweful with tiny 1600cc engine that it shared with the Pony...

Wasn't that the ole Stellar's body? They changed it to Sonata. The US got the Sonata in 1988 or 89, not sure.. and it was fwd. So the Sonata started off as rear wheel drive, eh? If the US got the rwd Sonata, it would make a great drift bargain, nowadays. lol

I never realized they sold that model as "Sonata" - most of the time I recall it being sold as either "Stellar" or "Prima"...

...As for that particular model of "Sonata", it was basically a rebodied Ford Cortina with Mitsubishi running gear...

Excelente auto, mi modelo es igual solo que se llama Stellar y es del año 1990, lo unico si es que el motor es pequeñisimo, solo 1.600 cc
