I think that before you buy something, you should realize what it was made for, and what the user wants to do with it... Just because you see the lack of it, a student might find it very convenient because of it's light weight or if someone needs it for really basic use...
You can add a USB hub that lets you add up to 12 devices on one USB port. We had to do this to our families old computer which only had three USB ports.

And as this shows you cant even upgrade it urself on mac but u can with windows. Iv'e got a windows running computer as well within a few months of getting it, it went crap the battery went (wouldn't charge) clogged full of viruses when i dont even download stuff from the internet, sure you can get good memory and upgrade it yourself. YOU CAN WITH A MAC TOO! thats why id go for a mac.

@TheCoFreshShow yes you are right about the good battery. I do admit its reliable. Its one of the only things i like about my mac. But u cant upgrade your computer because you cant buy the parts. They do this as marketing. If your computer goes to shit (that is if it breaks) you need to buy a whole new one. and theyre designed to go out of date or break eventually. its called 'planned obsolescence'. E.G a couple of my friends had mac's and the battery wouldnt charge. Cost more to repair than buy

You can tell who ever made this is desperately looking for reasons to put down the MBA. Who needs a CD drive on a laptop anyway. I have used the CD drive on my MBP once, and that was just to test a DVD. CD/DVD drives are old technology. Think about how big a CD drive is versus the amount of storage you get, its pathetic, stone age tech. Don't be brainwashed by Apple haters. Macs are excellent computers and once you use one for a significant amount of time you understand why. OS X for life.

A modern PC laptop will have 3+ USB ports, a VGA out, S-Video out, integrated optical drive, ethernet, and occasionally phone line support, for a quarter of the price of any Mac.

The Mac Book Air had to sacrifice quite a few features in order to get to the required thickness and price point. Therefore, it is up to the user to decide if they need those features or not. They certainly have the option to go for a Mac Book Pro. You can't call the Air "crap" just because it doesn't have what you want.

guys lest be honest here... why would any 1 get a $1000 apple air with no optical drive, firewire, usb ports or ethernet when they can get a macbook pro for $1200 with all that, the same OS and I think the 13" can still fit into an envelope.... think of all the money you will save from not buying extra stuff. I am a Mac user and a Windows ( mostly Mac) but I will never buy an Air. is just a Waste of your money.

@grarrs SSD's overkill in speed so boot time wont really make a good argument. also they are extremely expensive for the amount you can store. and Mac OS doesn't support TRIM (may change) so the speed of the SSD will degrade over time. and 3 USB ports should be the bare minimum for any laptop.

My laptop cost 900 euros in 2007 and it has all these, + tripple the hard drive, tripple the ram, tripple faster proccessor. You guys are such big toold buying these shit. I wouldnt have a problem buying this for 300 euros , BUT NOT FOR 1500++++!

i like macs, but the macbook air isnt very good, i could NEVER survive with a computer that has one usb, for instance i cant use laptop touchpads, the are just fustrating to use, so i need to use a mouse, there u are used already, youd have to plug in a usb hub everytime u wanna use it...
