  • Wonderful video, great wisdom, I love it! It inspires me to be healthier. :)

  • Steve Jobs used his cancer prevention diet. Steve Jobs died from cancer.

  • @nexenta

    Too little too late

  • @nexenta

Steve Jobs also had massive heavy metal and industrial chemical exposure over the course of two decades while involved in/around the manufacturing process of his hardware devices. You are misinformed, and to blame diet solely is very foolish.

  • THANKS SO MUCH

  • And oh my! Isn't he a happy looking character? ! wot the? I think I'll stick to my obviously heathen path of eating good food, laughing a lot and relaxing.... chill out man! Every single woman knows we survive longer if we don't have to pick up, wash up, cook up and pretend we just loved the lousy sex to keep a man happy..... I'm fat and cuddly and at 110/70 and all my blood tests showing I'll last till I'm 90, I think I'll stay single!

  • please look up bodybuddha.co.uk

They cure lots of illness like diabetes and Lupus and only live on donations, they are Buddhists and one named John Tao is a genius!why are doctors not so good?

  • OMFG the laughing REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!!! Fucking dumb people !!!!!!!!

  • Dr. Dean Ornish has my respect. He represents genuine science, unlike the many blogs, forums and websites out there spewing complete nonsense.

  • Sabrina, a dallas based yoga professional, is a genius!!! She has helped hundreds of her students improve their lives.

  • THC (Rick Simpson's Cancer Cure Hemp Oil) achieves this wizardry by binding to protein receptors on a cancerous cell's surface. Once attached the THC induces the cell to make a fatty substance called ceramide, which prompts the cell to start devouring itself. "We see programmed cell death" Velasco says. What's more, noncancerous cells don't make ceramide when they come into contact with THC. The healthy cells don't die.

  • THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

"More recently, scientists reported that cannabidiol, one of the chemicals found in marijuana, slows growth of breast cancer cells growing in laboratory dishes. However, this substance has not been tested in humans or even in animals that have cancer yet. Cannabidiol levels in marijuana are low, so any benefit from this compound would require use of a purified and concentrated form."

  • @EssiacHempLaetrile

Proven in laboratory dishes but not willing to test on humans or animals!

A purified and concentrated form is RICK SIMPSON'S CANCER CURE HEMP OIL!!

  • Dr. Dean Ornish had suffered through Nervous breakdown in his teenage. He was doing nothing that just staying in home. Then he learned som Yoga from his sister n within 15 days he felt so fresh that he gave the exam and became a doctor then after.

  • Its outstanding. I am a dietician and did not know many things he is talking.

  • TED videos are fantastic!

  • I think the key to achieving a great level of health is to keep it simple and make it an area of interest to continue learning about.

Juicing is a great way to get the full quota of fruits and veggies and getting sweaty for 20 -25 minutes three times per week, should be enough to keep most people trim.

It's an ongoing journey though, I'm in my mid-thirties now and feel a lot healthier than I did 10 years ago.

  • Very helpful!

  • Excess protein in the diet (especially from animal sources) is one of the biggest sources of chronic illness. Americans focus so much on protein and I don't understand why considering even the average vegan eats twice as much protein as they need every day. Excess protein taxes the liver and kidneys, creates an acidic environment in the blood and causes leaching of nutrients from the bloodstream and bones and is the leading cause of osteoporosis.

  • Leading? Look up the causes of osteoporosis, and the word "protein" will likely not even be present. Are you thinking of vitamin D deficiency?

But there are actually studies that back up what I'm saying. If you google "kerstetter 133", the first result is a study that shows a low protein diet contributes to bone loss, and moderate protein diets (1 to 1.5 kg/lb/day, likely far more than most vegans eat) are associated with normal calcium metabolism.

If you have sources, I'd love to read them.

  • Its a shame you AUTOMATICALLY would assume the worst from an alternative form of worship than the myopic one. If your "god" created ALL beings, and all thoughts are from "god", why wouldn't there be more than one way to reach G-d? Why would you assume if you don't follow the judgemental form of worship that an entity so beyond our capacity to understand fully would discount any effort to reach it/them. QUIT being a sheeple! baaaah! baaaah!

  • Dealing with stress, quitting smoking, eating well and exercising are "only for those with an understanding of god"?

Hmmm... this nonsmoking atheist runner thinks that you're wrong, and I'll bet my 110/60 resting heart rate on it.

  • heart rate or blood pressure?

  • @pdema030 where does he say "only for those with an understanding of god"? he's talking about how one's lifestyle, attitudes and emotions can affect one's health.

  • @pdema030 you are god, and all that is, ying and yang etc...because nothing is separated from you. you don`t understand science, only what you get at a supercial level or what is convenient for your curent beliefs:) Because being atheist is fundamanelist belief system, has nothing to do with science, the scientifc procesees to be exact etc. You may do well enough with a fundamentalist belief system, based on leaps of faits..indeed, but it`s better with progressive understanding of the esence.

  • @pdema030 You look real healthy, but I believe your 110/60 systolic/diastolic reading represents your (blood pressure), and not your resting pulse, which is composed of one number and not two.

  • Wow!!! A must see for everyone who desires the key to a long life or is suffering from illness.

  • loneliness and depression vs. connectivity and love ... it makes sense. good talk.

  • Reiki is arguably the best way to cure your body.

  • are you insane?

  • Very arguably.

  • My friend does Reiki, it does do good for your body.

  • Those who're interested in body's self-healing will be fascinated by "The New Medicine" aka. "German New Medicine". Its 5 biological laws give a whole new meaning to pretty much all our "diseases", it redefines them and reveals their purpose. Check it out!

  • This his will save lives Dr.O. What is needed now is a dedicated website for your findings for the common good (please!). Everyman needs to hear this. You provide clarity in a world of smoke and smoke screens. We are healing machines, medicines are secondary. Genius and wonderment.

  • nice talk.. but a bit too professional, which is contradicting his message- he removed too much of the human elemen of a talk, and replaced it wif chunks loads of info..

  • great talk and great message.

    take heed folks!

  • I'd feel more comfortable with this talk if it was less of an advertisement for Ornish's own diet plan...

  • Damn, that circling the 'I' in Illness and 'We' in Wellness kinda sums it all up. Great stuff.

  • Apparently the language of mysticism is English ;-)

  • awesome stuff!!..love the last slide!!

  • excellent info 5 stars, thanks for posting this!

  • sudden death o_o

  • I'm glad this research is finally coming into mainstream view. A really good talk.

  • Let your medicine be your food and your food be your medicine. Where have I heard this before?

  • 8:15 "more than 80% of people in Mississippi are overweight"...The average IQ for the state of Mississippi: 85... To be considered "Mentally Deficient" ones IQ must be 80 or lower... Sorry Mississippi

  • a little interesting, but mostly bullshit and blind statements, sure he backs up some of the things he says. but a lot of his opinions are just that, opinions. and he is quite wrong.

i do not smoke to help me get through the day, i do it cause i like it. scared of thinking of death? nop, wrong again. quite comfortable with the concept. too much generalization.

  • ummm, no offense but, you probably look forward to your cig, think about it, do you get ready ahead of time to go smoke, do you plan on smoking in an hour or two, the first step is admitting the problem with ya self so really by you knowing it or not, ya cig helps you through ya day...but you coo

  • i just learnt recently that the nicotinic receptors in the brain (the chemical receptors that bind to nicotine) are more numerous in numbers in a smoker Therefore, the craving for nicotine in a smoker is much much more than a nonsmoker. This explains why alot of smokers say that they need to smoke to feel normal. It is because they have developed tolerance for nicotine and constantly needs the same level of nicotine to feel fine. This is true for all other addictions.

  • nicotine receptors are more numerous because as the cells divide the need to handle recieving the nicotine is genetically imprinted in the dna of the old cell. this is true of all neuro peptides and the receptors that are required to recieve them. The more of any chemical being ingested or created by the hypothalmus (brain) creates a need to be able to recieve more. This ends the moment things change when the cell divides in the next direction.

  • Opinions? he is like citing almost everything he is says with some kind of study..

  • Honestly, I used to smoke, and I enjoyed it. But I think that I enjoyed it because it got me through the day. Get it? I mean, just because you like it doesn't mean there isn't an underlying reason which causes you to like it. Especially with smoking, which is a fairly nasty, smelly habit (no offense to smokers, but since I quit, I *really* hate the smell... marijuana smells much better!).

I'm just saying that, in order to enjoy smoking, you have to overlook many bad things about the habit.

  • well, i can see how you would think that, but trust me im a little different to most people, i do most my own dental work, i dont care about my body, im 25yo and if i died today i would be happy about all i learned and acomplished.

i guess im trying to say that i enjoy smoking. but i do not have to over look any bad things as im comfortable with them.

i smoke because... (depends what im smoking)

1- i like the feeling of the smoke going down my throat (tobacco)

2- cause it relaxes me (weed)

  • Boy, the man can talk a blue streak!

  • How am i supposed to belittle his liberal nonsense when he supports it with peer reviewed published evidence?

  • ha!

  • @FlailingJunk I've never understood why people think that a plant based diet is liberal?! Eating a plant based diet does not automatically mean your a no leather wearing, animal rights and PETA supporter. Some of us just want to feel good, reverse our diseases caused by the standard american diet and be happy! Get over it!

  • @ChaosKids512

That comment was not entirely serious and made over two years ago. I am well and truly "over it."

  • That was fannntastic!:D

  • Excellent presentation, it is very exciting to see the increasing scientific pool of data growing in this field. Now if we can just get the insurance companies to see that they'll save money!

  • That was great! I knew damn well that science would one day prove the healing capabilities of positive thoughts.

It's icing on our collective cake that compassion, altruism and service improve our physical / mental well being.

Thanks Dr. Dean and good job TED!

  • Not very in depth honestly.. like what types of foods is he recommending exactly? I know these answers cause I know a lot about this stuff, but I would have loved to hear examples of commonly available foods that he recommends and fit into his categories. Also organic vs GMO, how much fruit since they contain simple sugars and spike energy levels, etc.

  • Sorry Doc!

    Haven't you heard of Calvinism?

America is founded upon Calvinism - Even the FDA classifies drug scheduling on Calvinism, (i.e. the more people "enjoy" a drug, the more dangerous the FDA considers it)

Face it: Your culture was founded on desert dogma's that are anti-nature and demand self-loathing!

  • America wasn't founded upon Calvinism, it was hijacked by it. The Founders were secularists who believed in personal liberty above all.

You can thank Abe Lincoln for the bloated babysitter government that we have today.

  • It didn't start with Lincoln, it started with Washington.

  • What Mr. 787 is trying to say is that before Lincoln, the US was following the

  • "What Mr. 787 is trying to say is that before Lincoln, the US was following the"

    ...Constitution?

  • ha, yeah. For some reason it didn't go through all the way.

  • Freeing millions of people from enslavement is REALLY BIG GOVERNMENT AT WORK.

    You are scum.

    we-llness

    wow i loved that ;)

  • very interesting and I loved the ending :)

  • just barely held my attention first but was well worth it
