killing 900 Campbells without a sword being lifted in defence! They were all as bad or as good as each other :-) What made Glencoe more significant was that it was an atrocity concocted by the Scottish government in Edinburgh itself and not an atrocity due to caln rivalry. The troops used happened to be Campbells but it easily could have been others.
@TheSpiritof45 VERY SIMPLE KING BILLY OF TANGERINES ORDERED IT AND ONLY ONE CAMPBELL WAS IN CHARGE "CONCOCTED" MANY MILES FROM EDINBURGH AS FOR BISCUIT TIN I NEVER TOUCH THEM ONLY PORIDGE OATS AND JUST BECAUSE "OTHERS" WOULD DO IT PISS OFF THE ONLY GOOD CAMPBELL DOES NOT BREATH GOD BLESS KING JAMES
@TheSpiritof45 The Scottish administration planned and ordered it and King William signed the orders. It was regular troops of the Scottish army who carried it out. The commanding officer was a Campbell and a small percentage of the actual troops were Campbells but it was not a Clan Campbell operation as such. It probably suited central govt at that time to portray it was Highlanders killing each other as it shifted responsibility from central government itself.
I was first aquainted with this song at a Scottish Festival sung by Alex Beaton. It got me studying some of my Scotts history. What a huge tragedy. How sad I was to find the Campbells were our protectorate clan. Our's was a small one on their land. BUT I am a Jacobite.
@MysticalViking I wouldn't worry about your ancestors being connected to one clan or the other they all have their dark points to hide. For instance pre 1601 when the Scottish and English kingdoms were completely seperate the MacDonalds on at least two occassions allied themselves to an English invasion of Scotland - and as far as atrocities go Glencoe wasn't a particularly large massacre compared with some. During the 17thC Herschip of Argyle the MacDonald bard's boasted openly about the clan
Thanks for putting these up Pomepwns, it's difficult to get these unless you live in Scotland, so it's really nice to see kind people like u keeping the spirit o' the Corries going!

Ronnie Browne is a giant of song, and I'm glad he's walked amongst us.
His songs with Roy were wonderful, but now we see who was the true genius of the two. No disrespect to Roy is meant, by the way.

@osoneill , I'll hazard a guess: it comes from a fire. Either grass or wood, it's hard to tell. As I said it's only a guess... :-))

Very lovely!-- Ronnie singing this one with Roy was one of my very favorite ones- hearing Roy sing it alone is nice.

This is ronnie singing it alone.
Though I'd clear that up, thought it may just be a mistake.

when were these recorded
chrislvsjenni 3 years ago
They're from a DVD which is a higher quality repackaging from a VHS, in 1996, so I should imagine not too long before that.
