Up 3 1/2 games weeks before the season is over? I'm sorry, but that is not a choke. 2007 was definitely a huge collapse, but we were WAY ahead that time, almost guaranteed to win it, then we just, to put it lightly, completely fucked it up. But, what happened this year can happen to any other team: fight in a tight race, and slip from postseason contention with a struggling bullpen.
The Phillies won this year because they were the best team. But, we have all winter to shape up. We'll need it.

73% of the Yankees' championship wins are from before The Mets existed. Their glory days ended in the middle of the last century more or less, and there has been only one brief revival of that, and it was a decade ago. In some ways, we prize our 2 wins more than you do your 26.
Whenever I hear a Yankee fan talking about their 26 WS, it's always to prove that The Yankees are better than everyone else. I think of '69 and '86, and feel pride, as opposed to treating them like stats to boast about.
