(cont) As the donkey pointed out, these people are in the minority. For this to make a difference in the country it would need to be all of them. If this weren't true and everyone who makes more than a million thought they should pay more, why should they give a gift to the government? The government is not a charity, but IS in charge of making ethical fiscal policies that allow for spending only what they can afford to take in. Taxing the rich more comes closer to this
@goatpunchtheater A key problem here is that we can't trust the government to spend only what they can afford to take in. They always spend more, so allowing them to raise anyone's taxes just makes the problem worse.
@lorafang Why then were we much closer to a balanced budget in the Clinton era? Rich paying more taxes was a contributing factor to that. For the record I am far more libertarian, and I think austrian economics is more sensible then keynesian. Here is the difference. Obama, Clinton and Bush are all Keynsian proponents. However, Bush thought he could use Keynsian economics without spending any money. So he borrowed it and put us into ridiculous debt. (google both keynsian and austrian economics)
@goatpunchtheater The government didn't seem to spend more just because it was taking in more in that era, did it? I am voting Ron Paul because the entire tax system needs to be changed. He is the only one willing to do it. However, since he won't get elected we are going to stick with Keynsian economic policies, and if we do, taxing the rich more is a must.
Nowhere in this video was there anything that resembles a coherent argument. The argument as I see it is that because not many millionaires believe this way, then it must not be a good idea. Of course people don't want to give up their money! He then calls them liberal elite! This contradicts the argument. If the majority of millionaires aren't willing to contribute more money wouldn't that be more elitist? The "give a gift to the govt" argument at the end is ridiculous. It would not be enough
@goatpunchtheater You miss the point of who the "elites" are. They are not necessarily the ones with the most money. I see them as the ones who always think they know better and like to tell the rest of of what to do.
@lorafang I am going to assume you are a republican. If so I ask you this: By you're definition of elites, "ones who think they know better and like to tell the rest of us what to do" then wouldn't all of the republicans in congress e.g. john boehner who say that the rich are then job creators and we cannot tax them because it will kill jobs be the elitists? Especially since those who do create these jobs say that higher taxes don't affect their ability to create these jobs.
@goatpunchtheater Not to mention this trickle down economic theory has been proved to be pointless many times throughout history. I would like to see just one instance in history where giving massive tax cuts to the rich has actually given an economy some sort of meaningful result. The answer is that it never has. By trickle down I mean the theory that tax cuts to the rich will allow them to spend more money and put it back into the economy and then this better economy will help the poor.
@goatpunchtheater Well that theory was shot down it the Bush era so now republicans are saying that these tax cuts help the rich to create jobs, and tax cuts will kill these jobs. The rich themselves pretty all agree this is not the case. The ones arguing for the Bush tax cuts are not saying it hurts their ability to create jobs. From everything I've seen they simply say that they earned the money and they shouldn't be penalized for succeeding. If you can prove me wrong I am willing to listen
after all we know the poor should pay for the roads to transport the goods that make the rich rich on.... because the millionaires just can not afford to pay their own way, it would mean waiting a few extra months to buy that 9th villa in France, and a third private jet to get there.
maybe the 80 millionaires realize, as you do, that they are just a small % of their peers, and so they'd rather spend time getting a few hundred thousand millionaires to part with cash, instead of just 80.
it is now over 140 millionaire's. I cannot believe any middle class or poor would like this lie. If we did not even the playing field, we'd fall into a serfdom. Be honest and look at all unions have done to improve you lot.
@Mountchoirboy You know what. I aspire to become a millionaire one day. If I was a millionaire nothing would make me angrier than to see this stupid fucking government take my hard earned money, and then piss it all in the sands of the middle east... and what's left goes to assholes who dropped school and don't want to work for a living. The government needs to stop spending now! We are 15 trillion in debt and we owe 120 trillion for social security, medicare and medicade. No Dream here ASSHOLE!
@TheMadCrumpet Why so mad? I thought this country was founded on freedom? I respect your's but choose not to call you a name. See that cheapens both of us. I must therefore respond with love. May the Grace and peace of the Lord fall upon you.
@Mountchoirboy I'm just mad because I'm seeing my freedom being taken away because people fail to look at what is really driving our problems. Why is their a wealth gap? It's because of inflation. People who are already wealthy can suck up all the wealth. People who are not wealthy suffer, as their savings diminish. Stop printing money and go back to a gold standard and the gap will shrink.
@Mountchoirboy Why do we want to solve the problem of a wealth gap by bringing people down to even it out?Why don't we allow people to be productive and work their way up? (Which would be soo much easier without regulations and inflation).
We are a Constituional Republic that protects the rights of the minority from the wrath of the majority. How many more peices of the Constitution do we need to shred before we realize that it was right all along? Stop the wars, stop the welfare, it's not us.
@Mountchoirboy not sure about gold standard I do not study this. We are no longer a republic that represents the many but the few due to lobby efforts. Good lcuk and glad we can agree to disagree
The "Opinionated Pony" is full of horse manure. Its suggestion that the rich just send in dollars to the government if they feel they're not taxed enough assumes that the USA is a charity and its government is open to handouts. Screw that.
The right-wing would have us believe that the government is, in every case, inferior to private corporations. Sorry, but AIG, Enron, Lehman Bros, Countrywide, etc, don't support that contention.
@WithoutGods Yea... AIG, Enron, Lehman Bros, and Countrywide were not in bed with the government... You stupid fucking retard.
We have not had a true free market since 1913. How is it a free market when we have a FDIC ensuring it will bail out people who put their money in the bank? All that does is enable the banks to do stupid shit in order to make a profit. Who gives a shit right? The government will bail us out if we fuck up! Let's keep lobbying those fuckers in congress.
@WithoutGods Nothing pisses me off more than assholes like you blindly pinning all our economic failures on the free market, when it is corporatism that should take the blame. You probably don't even give a fuck about how the (PRIVATE) Federal Reserve printed 16.2 trillion dollars to bail out all of their bankster friends. Everytime some fucker says he want's more regulations and taxes, he is just trying to kick the door behind him shut so no other people can become wealthy.
@WithoutGods Where do you think the richest area in the US is? It is Washington DC. Why are they so rich? Because of all the corporate lobbiests and asshole politicians live there. GE promotes Obama through MSNBC. Obama exempts GE from government regulations, and GE has paid 0 taxes since 08. Do you think that is the free market?
Don't get me wrong... Republicans are just as bad, if not worse than democrats. Look at the arms producers that lobbied for more wars in the middle east..
FACT: These "patriotic millionaires" are Democratic Party Activists pulling a political stunt. The group was created from a list of MAJOR CONTRIBUTERS TO THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN.
And not all of them made their own money - many of them inherited their wealth and list "activist" or "philanthropy" as a full time profession. By the way, the goup Patriotic Millionaires is accepting donations - and they are TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
This is complete garbage. The Liberal Media is the biggest hoax pulled over the eyes of Americans. Two years ago I believed it too, but If the media is controlled by 5 multinational corporations, which are in turn controlled by people in one quarter of the top 1% wealthiest, just how liberal do you think they are? We have a beast with two faces (Janus) playing us as pawns. Wake Up and turn off the TV, put down the newspapers and magazines, read a book and THINK!
love how the patriotic millionaires identify themselves and go on camera - this loser hides behind bad animation? Is that you, Paul Ryan? Or maybe Eric Cantor?
It may be a waste of time to post this here, but is everyone clear on the fact that the rest of the millionaires, the ones who aren't brave enough to speak up like the 80 or so this jack-ass is failing to appreciate, are simply NOT DOING WHAT IS NEEDED with their money to keep our society running? I mean, the main argument of the GOP is that rich people are smarter than government people when it comes to making America work. But...they ain't hiring nobody! They are not job creators now.
@ScoeyB Yes. It is very unpatriotic of millionaires like me for not wanting to hire people in the US, when it is clear I will lose money in doing so. Their is no hope for this country because It is too over regulated. Why the fuck do you think the jobs go to the chinese? Regulations don't help. Look at Henry Ford. There were no regulations, no unions, no income tax and yet he paid his workers the highest wages in the world and made the cheapest products at the same time. That is the free market.
@lorafang It must really burn your ass that there are people who are both rich and selfless at the same time. Why don't you get a mic and speak your mind instead of cowering behind some text to chat prog, loser.
Is that the voice of Emo Phillips narrating this pile of BS video? And this idiot didn't even do any research, there are about 8 million households worth over a $1 million. How does that change the fact that those people can afford to pay a little more in taxes instead of putting the burden on the middle class and poor who have been squeezed enough?
By the way, how much money are you worth dumb ass? yeah I'm talking to you lorafang! Why would you want to pay the wealthy's share of the tax?
Currently millionaires, who make more of their money from capital gains than do the rest of us, pay on average 17 - 18% in federal taxes (capital gains tax was reduced under Reagan to 15%). In other words, almost certainly more than you do.
the opinionate jackass likes to refer to taxes as theft. most millionaires pay less proportionate to their income. government does know how to spend better than they do, when it comes to education, infrastructure, etc. Not paying into social infrastructure will lead to less opportunity for others to get rich so higher taxes permit a system in which anyone with a bit of luck and entrepreneurial spirit can become rich as well -- that's the real American dream
Government is not a charity. It is a pool of resources that are built to benefit the entire community that is our nation. Ideally, we all contribute as we can, so that we all may benefit. The number of millionaires on this roll is up to 200. Looks like the message is getting out! And to paraphrase another comment... if you right wing repubs love Jesus so much, why aren't you following his lessons?
Seeing as the republicans consider themselves closer to Jesus, they should listen to his response on taxation. Whose picture is on our money? Give back to Ceasar what is his. He agreed on taxation but held greed in displeasure. Seems to me that republicans are on the wrong side of Jesus.
Why is it that people who crow about "wasteful government spending" when talking about 'excessive' taxation always want to cut social programs, but never even mention the military or prisons?
"Raising taxes and controlling spending ARE .... more they will spend.
That statement is false. Spending and taxing by the federal government are NOT tied together, thus the huge *deficits*, remember? You *cannot* starve the beast with the world's largest credit rating.
What of the living conditions of the immigrants in these "jobs"? I once entered a 2-BR apartment with a dozen bedrolls on the floor, no other furniture. People who work hard in America deserve better.
@SPGhettus Illegal immigrants do have a hard life. However, if you feel pity for them, offer charity or a ride home, don't make the rest of us pay taxes to support them. Especially when I am already supporting Americans who would have to do those jobs if we did not use tax payers' money to pay them not to work. You may not remember, or know about the Americans who fled the dust bowl in the 30's and took those same jobs. It's not rocket science.
@loranon None of the men living in that apartment were taking any taxpayer $. Several were working under false SS #'s, meaning they were paying FICA with no hope of getting it back.
The point is that these drastically substandard wages would not support a family in America, no matter how cheaply they tried to live. Many of those jobs would not even exist if the employers were forced to pay market wages. Wealthy GOP backers won't allow a closed border; they like the cheap labor.

Many of those jobs would not even exist if the employers were forced to pay market wages. Wealthy GOP backers won't allow a closed border; they like the cheap labor.
@loranon Who is being paid "not to work?" Unemployment is based on past wages and involuntary separation, meaning you get zilch if you just quit, ditto if fired for misconduct.
I think a lot of this right-wing anger is directed toward a set of people who do not exist: those who don't work, yet have a nice home, a working car, and cable. I have seen hundreds of poor households, and not a one fits that description. In my state, those who refuse to work are homeless.
Most middle class people pay too much, not the rich who no longer pay their fair share. There are 200 signatures by now, btw. And all that we own belongs to God, lent to us to do good in the world. There are poor who do as much work as the wealthy, but we don't have a level playing field.
And no, it's not that they think the government thinks it knows how to spend money better than we do. It's that our society, our government (us, the people who ARE our government) know we need to pool our money to do the big things a great society should do; such as be secure, have good infrastructure, support and do big research and development, have a healthy well educated populace, give people a hand up and opportunity to better themselves, help natural disaster victims, and on and on...
People making that much money are NOT making it from their own hard work and efforts. They are making it off the hard work and efforts of our entire society. They are reaping compounding rates of benefit from our nation's resources, infrastructure, security, and people, and yet they aren't paying a tax rate commensurate with the compounding benefit they receive from our society to support it.
If these patriotic Millionaires understand that, then I suppose they are already volunteering to send more money to the government, and that's just fine with me.
@loranon That's like saying we should just rely on EVERY person who truly understands the purpose and need for taxes, the pooling together of our money to do the big important things that a great nation does to enhance & progress its society and look out for its most valuable resource, its people, to pay taxes voluntarily. Sure you might get a portion of people to do that, while those who don't, live higher off the hog while reaping the benefits of society. How does that make the tax payer feel?
I don't think of the taxes I pay as money being "stolen." It's my ownership stake in the land that I love. There are so many illogical ideas in this video that I can actually smell Ayn Rand.
Here is an example of our "tax and spend" politicians' stupidity. Our politicians claim there are jobs Americans will not do, so we need illegal immigrants to do them. If we did not pay Americans not to work via welfare, then they would be willing to take "those" jobs. That approach will address two problems, welfare and illegal immigration. Anyone see that happening?
Raising taxes and controlling spending ARE mutually exclusive. The more of your money you give to politicians, the more they will spend. Like I said. If you don't think we are taxed enough, just send in more of your hard earned money.
Poorly informed pony is poorly informed. The patriotic millionaires seek to STOP the renewal of the Bush Tax cuts for those who make over 1 million dollars. The more money you make, the more you should be taxed. Its a simple concept really. You step on more peoples shoulders to get to that 1 million dollar spot, SO you should shoulder more of the responsibility to your fellow stepping stones. Sheesh.
Moreover, the 80 that are desiring change and contribution are part of the solution, even if a small and possibly insignificant part. So I see your video, which suggests this is a "load of crap" as part of the problem. Truly, for us to prosper and succeed, we stand in opposition of each other. Practically, there's three solutions to this "deadlock" as with all conflicts (agreement, compromise, or war). I'll listen to reason if you can be pragmatic and logical. Or else, we'll see, no?
I'd think it comes down to something greater than patriotism and "fair" but rather the sustainability and survival of our people... and ultimately our prosperity. Money is nothing more than linen, and has value only in what people assign to it. While the 80 patriots are well intended, their size weakens their impact (after all, it's far easier to find 2000 people making 40k a year and wanting change than 80 people making 1000k a year and wanting change).
It is not the percentage that is important when it comes to taxation, it is the level of sacrifice that is important. I made 25000 last year, I was on unemployment for several months and relocated. I was trading in my last nickels for quarters to do laundry. I paid 1200 dollars in taxes, it was a huge sacrifice. If someone makes a million dollars and only pays 100,000 dollars, it's a smaller sacrifice. I do not understand what is so difficult to understand about this. The flat tax is dumb
Government wastes money...agreed. But I also believe we need to put more in, and give the people better control of that money. How about we take some of that military budget instead of cutting medicare. If you think Medicare is a bigger waste of money than our HUGE military budget, I implore you to meet some people who actually use and need it

Here's a concept for you. How's about making sure all citizens pay taxes. According to the Tax Policy Center, in 2010 roughly 45% of us will pay no taxes. That's not the rich, it's the lowest earners, who get most of the services. Maybe if they had to pay something in taxes, they wouldn't be so eager to raise taxes on everyone else. I personally like a flat 10% tax with no deductions or loopholes. That way, everybody has some skin in the game.
@lorafang You're fucking stupid. ~45% of people pay no FEDERAL INCOME taxes. You're forgetting about payroll taxes, which are regressive and generally mean the poor have a greater tax burden as a % of income than the rich. Discounting welfare and food stamps, the services our taxes pay for benefit the rich far more than the poor - do you think Walmart pays a greater burden for the roads that allow them their distribution and thus $?
You're wrong about everything. Flat tax? Read a book.
@lorafang Your idiotic notion of taxing people who have no money is one of the most stupid things I've seen on the internet in about 20 years. You dumb gullible fuckwit.
Well, for those of you, including the millionaires who don't think we are paying enough in taxes, really think we aren't being taxed enough, there's nothing stopping you from voluntarily sending in more money to the government. I'm sure they'd be happy to redistribute it for you.
@lorafang Control freaks do not send in money voluntarily. They love using the force of government to force people to pay more taxes. They could send in as much money as they want to any time they want to. But they would rather make a big show out of it. These people are no where near being patriots.
Of course. That's why we need better transparency. Get the government to stop wasting billions on completely over the top unnecessary military projects, like more aircraft carriers, and get more revenue going to infrastructure and development. America's glory days were when the tax rate on the highest earners was 90%. Yet those high earning entrepreneurs still had a great quality of life.
We need higher taxes, and we need better spending. Taxes are the cost of a functioning society.
@lorafang I feel bad for your ignorance in this matter. Check the countries history. We paid far more taxes going back the last 50 years, and the country was better off for it. But that was when the rich paid there share! Please explain how this country could run with no taxes? You do realize that the richest 2% have more money than the rest of the 98% in this country. And people think it is smart for them to get tax breaks??!! What school did you attend ??!! :)
Pay up, there are people out there working their asses off just to survive the next day. The least you can do is put a little more in to help this country stay a float. I'm not a millionaire but the US Government can tax me and everyone at or above my income more to help take care of this nations budget problems. Mix the tax increases with decent spending cuts and I'm all for a half way solution.
It's too bad that you are just another guy that looks only negatively at people who are speaking out for a change that would be good. Honestly instead of saying that 80 is a puny number how about commending them for wanting taxes to be fair? What are you doing to improve this country? Does this video bring anything positive to the table? No. Don't waste our time.
"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."
whats wrong with the people who have the money wanting to contribute to their democratic government? Wanting change for a specific tax bracket isn' trying to tell everyone what to do. 350,000 Americans is a little over 1% of the population, far from everyone, isn't it? And hey, if they take up more of their share, maybe the pressure will be off the other 99% who actually need their money.
It is exactly the greed of people like yourself that has led to communism and all those other things you fear. Because you never have enough. And you don't care who you fuck trying to get enough. It's a waste of words, I know. 80 millionaires are satisfied. 349,920 (you said) are afraid to lose one iota of their questionable gains. BET YOU LOVE JESUS!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@lonedoghowling Well, lonedog, I guess I really lit your fire. That's what communication is all about. I'm actually even less a millionaire than you are, so I am not protecting myself or my own. I happen to believe that government is not a charity. The government has no right to any more of our tax dollars than it has a real need for. Charity is not one of those needs. By the way, profanity, weakens your credibility...
@lorafang Well then, what do you think government is good for? After all, it prints money, provides the legal structure that you build your wealth on, provides the physical structure like roads, bridges and the like, and provides military defense. Now without any of these things, what exactly do you have? The people who are millionaires see that government has value and must be paid for. It has to be paid by somebody, and if not them, then the rest of us bear an additional burden, is that fair?
@lorafang If you aren't a millionaire you are going against your own economic interests by defending their tax cheating. The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.
I happen to believe the government is not a charity also, which is why I do not believe in a voluntary tax system.
I get it! A pony (mule) speaking to the Democratic party. In a good year; which I haven't had since 2007; I might make 60-70,000$ a year. At that rate I make more than many Americans. Still far below the million $ mark you fearfully protect. At 60-70,000 (in a good year) I'm willing to pay more taxes to take care of those less fortunate. What's your problem? Insatiable greed and a need to be far above everyone around you?
@lonedoghowling I think the needy should make it a point to die on the doorstep of the greedy. So they can see the consequence of their greed.
You don't have to care that people are dying on your doorstep. You should at least have to get rid of the body. You. Not that Government you love to hate.
u did a great job to show ur face to us jackass :)

We are a Constituional Republic that protects the rights of the minority from the wrath of the majority. How many more peices of the Constitution do we need to shred before we realize that it was right all along? Stop the wars, stop the welfare, it's not us.

Laissez-faire capitalism is an abject failure.
WithoutGods 3 months ago
@WithoutGods Yea... AIG, Enron, Lehman Bros, and Countrywide were not in bed with the government... You stupid fucking retard.
We have not had a true free market since 1913. How is it a free market when we have a FDIC ensuring it will bail out people who put their money in the bank? All that does is enable the banks to do stupid shit in order to make a profit. Who gives a shit right? The government will bail us out if we fuck up! Let's keep lobbying those fuckers in congress.
TheMadCrumpet 2 months ago
@WithoutGods Nothing pisses me off more than assholes like you blindly pinning all our economic failures on the free market, when it is corporatism that should take the blame. You probably don't even give a fuck about how the (PRIVATE) Federal Reserve printed 16.2 trillion dollars to bail out all of their bankster friends. Everytime some fucker says he want's more regulations and taxes, he is just trying to kick the door behind him shut so no other people can become wealthy.
TheMadCrumpet 2 months ago
@WithoutGods Where do you think the richest area in the US is? It is Washington DC. Why are they so rich? Because of all the corporate lobbiests and asshole politicians live there. GE promotes Obama through MSNBC. Obama exempts GE from government regulations, and GE has paid 0 taxes since 08. Do you think that is the free market?
Don't get me wrong... Republicans are just as bad, if not worse than democrats. Look at the arms producers that lobbied for more wars in the middle east..

ScoeyB 4 months ago
@ScoeyB Yes. It is very unpatriotic of millionaires like me for not wanting to hire people in the US, when it is clear I will lose money in doing so. Their is no hope for this country because It is too over regulated. Why the fuck do you think the jobs go to the chinese? Regulations don't help. Look at Henry Ford. There were no regulations, no unions, no income tax and yet he paid his workers the highest wages in the world and made the cheapest products at the same time. That is the free market.

Currently millionaires, who make more of their money from capital gains than do the rest of us, pay on average 17 - 18% in federal taxes (capital gains tax was reduced under Reagan to 15%). In other words, almost certainly more than you do.
badgerbabs 6 months ago
the opinionate jackass likes to refer to taxes as theft. most millionaires pay less proportionate to their income. government does know how to spend better than they do, when it comes to education, infrastructure, etc. Not paying into social infrastructure will lead to less opportunity for others to get rich so higher taxes permit a system in which anyone with a bit of luck and entrepreneurial spirit can become rich as well -- that's the real American dream
varhamur 6 months ago
Government is not a charity. It is a pool of resources that are built to benefit the entire community that is our nation. Ideally, we all contribute as we can, so that we all may benefit. The number of millionaires on this roll is up to 200. Looks like the message is getting out! And to paraphrase another comment... if you right wing repubs love Jesus so much, why aren't you following his lessons?
FarmSustainably 7 months ago
Seeing as the republicans consider themselves closer to Jesus, they should listen to his response on taxation. Whose picture is on our money? Give back to Ceasar what is his. He agreed on taxation but held greed in displeasure. Seems to me that republicans are on the wrong side of Jesus.

What of the living conditions of the immigrants in these "jobs"? I once entered a 2-BR apartment with a dozen bedrolls on the floor, no other furniture. People who work hard in America deserve better.
SPGhettus 8 months ago
@SPGhettus Illegal immigrants do have a hard life. However, if you feel pity for them, offer charity or a ride home, don't make the rest of us pay taxes to support them. Especially when I am already supporting Americans who would have to do those jobs if we did not use tax payers' money to pay them not to work. You may not remember, or know about the Americans who fled the dust bowl in the 30's and took those same jobs. It's not rocket science.
loranon 8 months ago
@loranon None of the men living in that apartment were taking any taxpayer $. Several were working under false SS #'s, meaning they were paying FICA with no hope of getting it back.
The point is that these drastically substandard wages would not support a family in America, no matter how cheaply they tried to live. Many of those jobs would not even exist if the employers were forced to pay market wages. Wealthy GOP backers won't allow a closed border; they like the cheap labor.

SPGhettus 8 months ago
Most middle class people pay too much, not the rich who no longer pay their fair share. There are 200 signatures by now, btw. And all that we own belongs to God, lent to us to do good in the world. There are poor who do as much work as the wealthy, but we don't have a level playing field.
LawrenceGulotta 8 months ago
And no, it's not that they think the government thinks it knows how to spend money better than we do. It's that our society, our government (us, the people who ARE our government) know we need to pool our money to do the big things a great society should do; such as be secure, have good infrastructure, support and do big research and development, have a healthy well educated populace, give people a hand up and opportunity to better themselves, help natural disaster victims, and on and on...
EmeraldView 8 months ago
What's it like carrying water for your rapists?
People making that much money are NOT making it from their own hard work and efforts. They are making it off the hard work and efforts of our entire society. They are reaping compounding rates of benefit from our nation's resources, infrastructure, security, and people, and yet they aren't paying a tax rate commensurate with the compounding benefit they receive from our society to support it.
The Patriotic Millionaires understand that.
EmeraldView 8 months ago
@EmeraldView Rapists?
If these patriotic Millionaires understand that, then I suppose they are already volunteering to send more money to the government, and that's just fine with me.
loranon 8 months ago
@loranon That's like saying we should just rely on EVERY person who truly understands the purpose and need for taxes, the pooling together of our money to do the big important things that a great nation does to enhance & progress its society and look out for its most valuable resource, its people, to pay taxes voluntarily. Sure you might get a portion of people to do that, while those who don't, live higher off the hog while reaping the benefits of society. How does that make the tax payer feel?

Here is an example of our "tax and spend" politicians' stupidity. Our politicians claim there are jobs Americans will not do, so we need illegal immigrants to do them. If we did not pay Americans not to work via welfare, then they would be willing to take "those" jobs. That approach will address two problems, welfare and illegal immigration. Anyone see that happening?
lorafang 8 months ago

Or else, we'll see, no?
loodwig 8 months ago
I'd think it comes down to something greater than patriotism and "fair" but rather the sustainability and survival of our people... and ultimately our prosperity. Money is nothing more than linen, and has value only in what people assign to it. While the 80 patriots are well intended, their size weakens their impact (after all, it's far easier to find 2000 people making 40k a year and wanting change than 80 people making 1000k a year and wanting change).
loodwig 8 months ago
It is not the percentage that is important when it comes to taxation, it is the level of sacrifice that is important. I made 25000 last year, I was on unemployment for several months and relocated. I was trading in my last nickels for quarters to do laundry. I paid 1200 dollars in taxes, it was a huge sacrifice. If someone makes a million dollars and only pays 100,000 dollars, it's a smaller sacrifice. I do not understand what is so difficult to understand about this. The flat tax is dumb
jmichaelhudsonultra 8 months ago

Here's a concept for you. How's about making sure all citizens pay taxes. According to the Tax Policy Center, in 2010 roughly 45% of us will pay no taxes. That's not the rich, it's the lowest earners, who get most of the services. Maybe if they had to pay something in taxes, they wouldn't be so eager to raise taxes on everyone else. I personally like a flat 10% tax with no deductions or loopholes. That way, everybody has some skin in the game.
lorafang 8 months ago
@lorafang You're fucking stupid. ~45% of people pay no FEDERAL INCOME taxes. You're forgetting about payroll taxes, which are regressive and generally mean the poor have a greater tax burden as a % of income than the rich. Discounting welfare and food stamps, the services our taxes pay for benefit the rich far more than the poor - do you think Walmart pays a greater burden for the roads that allow them their distribution and thus $?
You're wrong about everything. Flat tax? Read a book.

@lorafang Control freaks do not send in money voluntarily. They love using the force of government to force people to pay more taxes. Of course. That's why we need better transparency. Get the government to stop wasting billions on completely over the top unnecessary military projects, like more aircraft carriers, and get more revenue going to infrastructure and development. America's glory days were when the tax rate on the highest earners was 90%. Yet those high earning entrepreneurs still had a great quality of life.

whats wrong with the people who have the money wanting to contribute to their democratic government? Wanting change for a specific tax bracket isn' trying to tell everyone what to do. 350,000 Americans is a little over 1% of the population, far from everyone, isn't it? And hey, if they take up more of their share, maybe the pressure will be off the other 99% who actually need their money.
