VN had support from China and Russia during the Vietnam war, but not learning to dig tunnels from the China, and China don't fight guerilla war like the VC. The theory about PCR going to war to slow down VN economy by keeping it on alert is bullsht when the economy has not developed and already suffered from going to war with France and US.PCR intentions was not to invade VN, just to teach them a lesson for invading Cambodia, persecuting ethnic Chinese, and various political reasons.

The one who fights more often fights better, Vietnam had always been fighting and they got better weapons from French, US and Soviets. China had not been fighting for decades so PLA were inexperienced compared to Vietnamese army. And PLA's weapons were also out-dated because of 10 years of cultural revolution.
