I was driving the Corvette. It was a new T-1 class race-car and Barber was it's shake-down. I had never been to Barber and was not much more than a novice racer. The video came from the first or second run-group on Saturday. As I learned the track that day and got comfortable in the car, the Porsche couldn't keep up. I've been racing for 10 years since then and agree with the commenter who said that you can't make a ruling on Porsche versus Corvette by watching one lap on one video.
The Porsche driver is clearly the better driver. It is impossible to tell from this video which car would lap the faster. I owned a '99 911 and now a C6 Z06. As an instructor/racer I have driven many different cars. A couple 1980 vintage 911s had scary handling relative to modern engineering. I haven't drive any 80s vintage Vettes but would bet they would also be scary.
How would the 930 do against my '07 Z06 with comparable tires? I really don't know or care. I would just want to drive both!

The Corvette driver continously misses the apex's at each corner and is not using the whole track. Take the Porsche driver and put him in the Vette and it will run away from the 930...Guaranteed!

Actaully, they have made many, many models that kill 30 year old turbo Porsches. Like C5Z06, C6, C6 Z51, C6Z06, and C6ZR1. Porsche is my favorite make. But if you think your 930 is better than a modern Corvette in any way, you are just plain ignorant.
There is no Corvette that will "Kill" a 930. There may be a few "production" models that will go faster, but it will never be a "kill". The 930, with it's old 4 speed will still make the Z-06 owner have to drive really good to beat it. 1974 technology, Vs. 2008. Even if i get beat, there is not another car on the road that I would rather have than my 930. If you have driven one, you'll know what I mean. '88 owner here here, last year of the 4 speed.
Depends on your definition of "kill." I used it to mean faster around a race track stock to stock with equal drivers. With that definition, yes, many Corvette models kill the 930. If it means completely blow into the weeds / soo much faster you can't even compare / not even in the same ballpark / etc, then the C6ZR1 still fits that description just fine. Even though the Porsche could possibly be an '88, it was still build around 1974 technology. The reason why they did not change it, "Don't fix something that is not broke." If we want to compare top of the line technology, look into the Carrera GT!!! The corvette is racing against 30 year old technology and barely leading!

Very wise words from a fellow 930 owner! This was my argument from the beginning. The 930 isn't the fastest car on the road anymore. It can be beat in stock form by quite a few cars now. The thing about the 930, that sets it apart from all other cars, including new 911's, is that it is just a raw beast. You "feel" everything the car is doing. It is just the perfect match between man and machine! Every input you give to this car, you get direct feed-back through your seat.
And to continue, that is the difference between your Chevy, and my 930. You have a ton of horsepower. Power steering, Power brakes, heated seats, dual climate control, probably heated mirrors. Chevy made your car to appeal to the masses, and go fast. The 930 was a car designed to meet the requirements of 100 road cars to qualify for it's class. 1974. They increased they engine size, but not much else changed. It's a perfect driver's car! There really is "No Substitute"!!

there is no replacement for displacement...torque rules the corners and HP rules the straights....American V8's are the top of the food chain...4 and 6 bangers can only hope for a driver error.

But just so you know, the car does come with a steering wheel that allows you to turn at various angles. LOL. It is also much easier to drift and control oversteer than the 930 due to being N/A and front engine, if that's what you mean.

The Z06 driver was clearly not very good yet the car was still cornering at the same speeds as the 930 most of the time. Why do you think this video was posted? What are you talking about? The new Z06 is faster around the racetrack than the 997 turbo and the GT3. This old Z06 costs less to buy than a 930, took way wider lines, and siad goodbye whenever he didn't hit the brakes in the middle of a straighaway.

ok I take that back.. Personally I always liked the Corvettes shape.. the handling appeared to be a bit all or nothing though.

All or nothing handling, huh? Well, if I knew what that even meant, I could give you my take in how true it is since I actually own and race the car not just seen them on Youtube. But just so you know, the car does come with a steering wheel that allows you to turn at various angles. LOL. It is also much easier to drift and control oversteer than the 930 due to being N/A and front engine, if that's what you mean.

Your looking at one!!!!!!!!!! 1.0 lateral G and nurburgring time of 7:56 completely stock. Watch the video again and look at the driving lines. The Z06 driver was clearly not very good yet the car was still cornering at the same speeds as the 930 most of the time. Why do you think this video was posted? It's because anyone who has ever been on track with a Z06 knows getting a point by from one of them is not easily and it's worth posting a youtube video about. Even if you have a 911 turbo.

FYI, I have also owned a 944, 951, X1/9, and a MR2. I know handling. And my C5Z05 easily out corners them all. There really is no contest.

C5 Z06 and 930 Turbo are about the same price depending on condition of course. Both nice cars, both fast, but if I had the money...930.

What are you talking about? The new Z06 is faster around the racetrack than the 997 turbo and the GT3. This old Z06 costs less to buy than a 930, took way wider lines, and siad goodbye whenever he didn't hit the brakes in the middle of a straighaway.

I raced a Z06 across I-10 in Texas in my 911...at 135MPH, he lunched his tranny. Tough break when you go up against the benchmark.
