Anyone who says landing a plane without the gear down is an idiot and has never tried or successfully landed a plane. Landing a plane may look easy but seriously it's a hard thing to do.
Very lucky escape? Anyone with just a little knowledge of how to fly an airliner could've landed this thing safely. You land it just like you would normally except you know that you have no landing gear. I don't get what all the hype is about...
I dont think they ciruled the airport for one hour just to fix the gear, but to burn of what feul they had left so that when thay land there is no risk for fire.
What is even the most amazing that the crash landing under captain Tadeusz Wrona of that plane happened on an intersection of two runways, so the airport would remain close for a week until BOEING engineers will evaluate the causes for that crash landing!
That is what we get when morons like Donald Tusk who illegally seized the power after assassination of President Lech Kaczynski over Smolensk that plane was shoot down by the Russian Spec Forces in collaboration of the communist premier of Poland Donald Tusk!
I would like to inform all that during the exhumation of the remains of killed in that assassination Wasserman the traces of Octol were found in his bones!
I see nothing extraordinary in that crash landing!
For people who have no contact with aviation it might be extraordinary!
Polish LOT is known to save money on airplane maintenance and does not follow Boeing recommendations referring to plane service!
There was an expertise done on that plane which called for replacement of all "wires" (cables), but the polish assholes decided that 3,000,000 dollars replacement of wires is to expensive, life of passengers is to cheap!
You can give it any title you want, it doesn't make it any special. Titles are made by newsmen, (in such case the communist newsmen from communist press and communist agentura! The belly landing is the easiest landing for people who know well the industry, and off course something special for all airheads, and specially newsmen who can cash on it. Pilots are well trained in T & G , landings and any and all emergencies. That is why they supposed to land not to use parachute!
@urelements U R extremely narrowminded ignorant sir, as a person that works in aviation industry for last 15 years i assure U that it was extraordinary landing and pilot easily is among worlds best. As of maintenace where did U get your facts from? Wires replacement is nowhere near 3,000,000 passengers life would be way more costly for an airline, if LOT didn't maintain it's aircrafts to the highest industry standards it would be excluded from StarAlliance-FACT.take ur bullsh** &hatred elsewhere
The pilot deserves a raise pronto. Competence does not come cheap. Lands the plane without landing gear. 230 passengers. No one injured. He deserves an award ceremony acknowledging his accomplishment.
Polish Airline LOT began to fly from 1929 had a break during the 6 years in the second World War, 1939-1945 The plane flew from New Jersey Newark airport to Poland Warsaw Chopin Polish airline are one of long time company in Europe

@avionicswirenut All modern aircraft, including light aircraft incorporate an emergency landing year deployment system. It functions by releasing the hudraulic pressure used to keep the gear in the up position. What happened here is an anomaly. A failure of a fail-safe system. Kudos to the flight crew on this amazing feat!
Sorry, the crew knew the landing gear did not work before they entered polish airspace, the reason they circled for an hour was to waste as much fuel incase the plane caught fire on touch down. It was all intentional to circle the city
Why so dramatic, ITN ?!?!? This was a textbook emergency landing, calm and precise. And there was no fuel left because in situation like this the pilot has to circle around the airport to burn it all before he lands the plane. Give the respect for the pilots skill, dear "reporter" and don't turn this into Jeremy Kyle show....
While I am not trying to diminish the accomplishment of the pilot and I think he did a wonderful job, the media seem to blow the hype way up in order to get ratings or something. Narrowly avoided catastrophe? The plane landed with it's wheels up in a belly landing. Planes do that all the time. Usually not ones that big, but it happens. There are quite a few failures that are more difficult to overcome. A belly landing on a paved runway isn't super dangerous like they make you believe.
@v12tommy Seems it is hard for some people to understand that a multi-million machine costs that much because it has some sturdiness and credibility. But these aircrafts are sometimes bought by some wanna-save-a-lots-of-millions airlines that fail to do proper maintenance.Or they choose to land in very low cost airfields where only emergency support is a guy with a wandheld CO2 fire extinguisher. At least this was not the case on this incident
Well done. I'm surprised that none of the engine pods caught the grass and the A/C spun out. Runway must be pretty wide. CNN gladly says that this is just like the Sully landing in New York, I call them the stupidest news network on television if they think this is just like that flight. Looks like the engine pods, and the rear of the fuselage took most of the damage. I wouldn't be surprised if they get her back on her feet and fix it up and get it flying again.

U worked only 15 years, I worked 40, and that is a big difference.
Yea as I said 3,000,000 dollars LOT saved by refusing to complete cable replacement.
Once LOT CEO was awarded for saving in one calendar year 29,000,000 złotych on maintenance.
It s not what you think it cost, it was an estimate.
LOT is a shoddy airline which is treating passengers like a shit (kaszana) (only worst id Lufthansa).
