  • Sublime. I have a tattoo saying "A bridge is not a high place. Icarus would know", Because I have "fallen from the Moon".

  • Both Fish and Hogarth eras were oustoundingly good, people should learn to appreciate them both. British music cannot be beaten

  • Absolutely.fucking.amazing.

  • Qué gran rola!

  • god, forgive them who don't know what they hear there

  • I saw them do this and most of Brave live. It was very hot in a place near OSU with no A/C. I didn't mind the heat - the show was awesome.

  • is amazing how in this video, as if steve hogarth threshing performance in a delusional and hallucinating schizophrenic, a blonde French woman, right corner of the screen is limited to smile and enjoy your music so toda.they are overtaxed, French and marillion.congratulations.

  • Epic !!!

  • Rothery is god

  • H ist a great singer and entertainer. Great great song

  • Fantastic composed song. Well live performed.

    Henny Klunder

  • how does a band so talented, so sincere get so over looked so often? Rothery is a God... Still the Fish era was awesome. Glad we have both ears to listen to.

  • ufff---zu geil das Teil !

  • I LOVE MARILLION

  • living legend...Rothery.

  • Que de souvenirs...... marillion forever......le jeu de steeve me fera toujours rever

  • Superb..........!!!

  • @Freakquency97 tard alert

  • @flashvlad ya sure go add this song to ur itunes....but surely i aint gonna spoil my itunes.....so....whatever

  • @Freakquency97 yoour taste in music is shit.

  • @TheBigmatt76 opinions dude.....retarded opinions,,,.. :/

  • Love how sudden the applause is at the end.. They're like "wow, this music is so deeply moving.. YEEEAAAAH MARILLION!!! \m/" hahaha

  • マリリオン、素晴らしいです!!

  • Ending songs from this, in my opinion the best, Marillion album are pure genius. Period.

  • So raw and pure.

  • "Why did you hurt the very ones you should have protected?" honest lyrics, even better music. Unfortunately I don't know of more than about 10 percent of their music with "H" that comes close to this one, but this IS a great song as good as any they have done!

  • Lots and lots of emotion in this fantastic performance

  • BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL, BREATHTAKING, HEARTBREAKING, PASSIONATE, POWERFUL, INTENSE...

I do confess; this is my favourite song ever and the performance...

  • masterpiece of music

  • : )

  • Brave is the best album for me and this song is... breathtaking... perfect :)

  • me too...

  • They're all great, fantastic, Kelly, Trewavas, Mosley, Rothery... but H rules. Brave's their masterpiece and one the best albums ever made, as rich as PF Dark Side of the Moon. Marillion forever!

  • well said - i was always a marillion fan, but with fish, this is magnificent - marillion have moved on and i love it and the comparison with floyd is justified - i am a huge floyd fan

  • I remember Marillion performing "The Great Escape" in Krakow in February this year. This was one of the highlights of that concert ;) And the album this song comes from is simply stunning!

  • i can't believe we are still talking about fish..u do realise that in the 30 years of the bands existance H was there for 21 years while fish was for 9..guys cmon..90% of their music is with H in it..

  • @loufador

Does that not tell you something?

  • @JestersTear1 ye it does..it tells me that some marillion fans should start giving credit to H..u love marillion because of Fish or because u love the band?

  • @loufador My favourite era is Fish although I like a lot of H stuff (this is probably my favourite H song). My comment was not meant to be inflammatory - it just illustrates the fact that Fish was a huge part of the band's success and that is whjy he is stiil talked about.

  • @loufador well, I guess this is truly a matter of tastes, of feelings..

the Fish era was very different and very strong..

the "new" (:D ) era has its own personnality and some may not enjoy it the same way..

never mind.. we're all talking about great music, aren't we ? ;)

  • @Loopzeloop yup we are! :))

  • @loufador I know, but here u r talking about him LOL

  • @loufador Same thing happens with Genesis, my friend...both bands are extraordinaire, no matter who the singer is.

  • You really write Bullshit and oh by the way ,

You don't even got the name right , it's Rothery ... or god

  • I don't know what you think you're seeing there, but it's all in your head.

  • Fish´s voice was great in the past, here his voice today,it´s terrible!H is the right man for Marillion since 20 jears.

  • I like much more Marillion with Fish, i dont have anything against Hogart, but Fish is great, his voice and his feeling oh god!!

  • Fish had a great feeling when he sang with Marillion, but hey, look at this guy while he sings... That's real feeling too.

  • Yeah men you´re right ;) this guy it´s great! but i like much more the classic stile i don´t know what but Marillion with Hogart sounds me so modern jeje but it´s great too!

  • Esse som do Marillion é muito demais

  • i regret this band is fairly new to me i cant believe it took me so long. oh well, i love them.

  • Tego można słuchać! Ekspresja... vocal super!!!

  • excelente....amo marillion .

    un abrazo.

  • There's such a synergy on the stage when they play, the rich musical texture; feelings turned to music and the emtional intensity of h on stage.. Takes my breath away every time..

  • grande hogart

  • Pelle d'oca.

  • Thanks Marillion for this unique song!!!

  • Amore la musika è in te...tu sei la musika...

ufff voglio vedere 1 koncerto kon te...abbracciati tutto il tempo...

    ti amo kosi tanto...

  • I...really really hope you're joking. Seriously. I won't deny that Boys Like Girls' song called The Great Escape is a fun song, but the two are in no way shape or form related, therefore BLG's isn't a "version" of this song at all.

  • Simply great - it doesnt get much better than this.

  • Hello? This is 2008 calling? Obsessed much? Fish has left the building. Its been 20 years now, see a therapist or something, but please just get over it! Let it go.

  • Quote: "Hello? This is 2008 calling ... Fish has left the building. Its been 20 years now, see a therapist or something, but please just get over it!"

Well said. I wonder if these H haters poke pins in Ian Mosley voodoo dolls because Mick Pointer isn't still in the band. It's not like Fish was replaced by a member of the Backstreet Boys or something.

Change is part of life. Deal with it. Good grief.

  • great hogarth

  • this guy with glasses on the front, looks like Steve Wilson of Porcupine Tree... =p

Great video, I enjoyed it so much!

  • putzagrilaaaaaa

Marillion dos meus sonhos, que banda.

Love ya. Come to Brasilllllll =)

  • I can't think of any guitar voice more underrated than

    Steve Rothery.

  • This album remains one of the best of the 90s, and one of the great secrets, too. It blows my mind.

  • fish=fish, h=h, and marillion remains marillion. both awesome !!!

  • H =ice cream genious

  • Love tht song lol

  • I just love this song, almost makes me cry. It's amazing how it changes from an euphoric moment to a great sadness when he plays the piano. A jewel...

  • Pezzo bellissimo di un grande disco.

  • touching

  • Debate is never an insult when the arguments are informed and educated, what do you expect when the charismatic frontman of a popular band leaves and someone else takes on the mantle ? shall we talk about the weather ?

  • OK, Mr Informed & Educated. So a charismatic frontman left a band of five members 20 years ago, leaving the other four intact. Was the answer to change names? By your reckoning Pink Floyd would never have survived without Syd Barrett. The Conservative party would never have survived without Margaret Thatcher, America would never have survived without Abraham Lincoln. Think again, genius. H is certainly different to Fish, as all Marillioners agree, but better? That's just outdated opinion.

  • Please please stop all this complete dross about whether Fish is better or worse than Hogarth. Its just ridiculous. As a fan since the beginning I also remember the immense stage presence and excitement of those early days. These days the band is hitting new highs in musical performance and Hogarth is bringing his own musical talents and great lyric and voice. This debate is an insult to the great talents of the other band members who continue to produce such excellent music. Bring on N0 15

  • I think their biggest mistake was to carry on calling themselves Marillion , this more than anything has fuelled the whos better debate when the two music styles are very different, for my two pence worth the original is still the best... by far

  • The culminating song in a masterpiece. If comparisons of Hogarth v. Fish are in any way valid, let it be noted that Hogarth sang on and helped create Marillion's finest moment. They carry on, not resting on their laurels... nor supporting themselves with the foundation of a distant memory. For all progressive rock giants, this example has yet to be realized. Long may they exist on their own terms, with their own merit, and with an amazing body of work to delight us with.

  • I have just watched this for the first time, and I have to admit that I'm in love with this music!!!

    Thanks

  • After relistening / reviewing:

An undebated number one for weeks now again!

What a climax of an album!

    Marillion rocks like nothing else

  • maginific song i love marillion's songs a great song with a powerfull voice, great for them

  • Incredible, Fish never had such voice. I like "old" marillion also, but Fish sounds like soft Geddy Lee or a bit angrier Phil Collins.

  • Fish and Hogarth have polar-opposite voices and deliveries. Fish's "angry" sound isn't anger; it's passion. While I still appreciate post-Fish Marillion, I regret to say that I find Hogarth's voice to be a bit whiny. It often sounds as if he's singer over or under the music; Fish was "one" with it. (Sorry if that sounds a little touchy-feely.)

  • okay marillion are marillion wiv fish or wivout marillion are great wiv H, becuse there not going to keep there 80's style it wouldent work with 21st century and to be fair i think they have done brilliant with H and he can do french really well!! And plus the fact Fish had his own style marillion wanted something diffrent in the first place!

  • Love the guitar solo...

  • i find the fish elitists hilarious. so marillion shed their 80s cheesy prog sound to become a better band, big deal get over it.

  • ...not better but another band...that´s an easy solution for this "dilema"...change the band name and go ahead...freely to another music style...don´t maculate the glorious past...forget the old name...forget the old fans... live us to "rest in peace" with our memories!!!

  • bulshit

  • Great comment congratulations! Always worrying about music genres instead of quality of music!

  • Please, can we stop referring to that pathetic old Scotman as Marillion? The band had to drop him because he no longer fitted the direction they wished to follow. Fish was a great Peter Gabriel impressionist, nothing more. Does that sound harsh enough? Actually I loved Fish as much as I love Hogarth, but I love Marillion more than either. Forgive me, therefore, if I find your argument weak.

  • Well said!

  • More than harsh enough, I'd say. Calling Fish a "pathetic old Scotsman" is not only inaccurate, but uncalled for. I'd bet that what he's done with his life exceeds what you've done with yours by a factor of about 10.

Further, the band didn't drop him -- he left the band. And as I understand it, that's one of the reasons Mark Kelly was so mad at him for so long.

As for the "Gabriel impressionist" remark, that just displays your ignorance.

I respect H and Fish both immensely.

  • Fair enough, Ken, maybe I was going too far.

Now please go back and look at what I was responding to. Were my comments really borne out of ignorance or annoyance? In truth I adored Fish for what he did with Marillion at the time, but that time has gone. Over 20 years ago. Btw I also follow Mostly Autumn, so I do know a bit about Fish.

My life isn't even remotely comparable, so let's not go there unless you want me to bore you to death defining what the word 'exceeds' really means.

  • Hi, Rushillion,

I wouldn't want to speculate where your comments were born out of since I don't know you. And of course I can't read your mind. All I had to go by was what you said, which I found a bit harsh.

You also seem to be contradictory in that you called Fish a "pathetic old Scotsman," then you say you adored him. People don't typically call someone they adore "pathetic." Besides, it's not like he's playing Vegas these days with a lounge band and singing "Kayleigh" every night.

  • Lastly, I hate to argue with a fellow Marillion fan, but I just thought your statements were hyperbole and needed to be challenged. Sometimes it takes an exchange like this for people to sort out what they really think and express it properly. No worries -- we can bat around differing opinions and still be amicable. :-)

  • Once again, Ken, fair enough. Sometimes the links on here don't work (as on this occasion) so I should explain better.

My annoyance, and therefore the context of my remarks, was aimed at a much earlier message referring to Marillion as 'pathetic' with H as singer. Hence the over the top response aimed solely at that comment. I wouldn't normally berate Fish like that, so I need to calm down a bit.

I certainly did not mean to offend other fans, so I apologise if I did.

  • Okay, I scrolled thru several previous pages of this thread and found the post you're referring to. Obviously that guy's comments were provocative and ignorant, and I guess I can understand your angry reaction. Sometimes I have to restrain myself from doing the same thing. It's not always easy.

  • Now I have to listen the full cd of Brave again...

  • Fantastic!

  • everytime i hear hogarth sing i just feel sorry for him, hes so good though bless him

  • My childhood is an awesome rendez-vous with the Aylesburian. They let me believe in this world, 'cause their music ... "you couldn't understand" said Steve... you would answer just his words!

  • My childhood was an awesome rendez-vous with the Aylesburian. They let me believe in this world, 'cause their music ... "you couldn't understand" said Steve...

  • I saw Marillion at a small club in Pittsburgh in '95. People in the crowd were calling out for Grendel and Misplaced Childhood. But the band played almost all of BRAVE and it fuckin' rocked! Hogarth was mezmerizing by doing his subtle act - with ocassional twitches - ya know, just tellin' the story. BRAVE's as great a concept album as Pink Floyd ever did.

  • il più grande gruppo del mondo!!!

  • Marillion is one of the best groups in the world... thanks for all the emotions they evoke...

  • When you listen to the words as well as the music, you realise just how wonderfully well thought out this track is. The two are so beautifully inter-twined.

  • The best version so far.

Beautil voice, beutiful face, beutiful performance. INTENSE.

  • Andei olhando, essa é a melhor versão q há no you tube. Dá-lhe, Ivanzito !!!

  • Beautiful is not enough for this song

We need a new word to describe Marillion

  • Beautiful, moving song! Great performance, I ADORE Pete's bassline...

  • awesome song and performance 8 stars !

  • This is one of the greatest song ever.sadly not many people know about Marillion.

  • MARILLION LEJOS LA MEJOR BANDA

  • Really enjoy this song. :D

  • A Marillion fan @ 16 still a Marillion fan @ 40 ...truly awesome !

  • Brave is the greatest album ever and The Great Escape is the best song off Brave.

  • you're fucking right, man! long live marillion (and fish also)

  • I'm away to dig out Brave again!

  • ya no surgen grupos asì,Marillion es una de las mejores bandas de rock progresivo,en dos etapas diferentes, pero magnìficas cada una.

  • having been a marillion follower since the beginning..this has got to be the most moving song they have ever made....I love it....

  • If I had to choose one song from Marillions great work, this would have to be it. Such great arrangement! And Stever Rothery shines on the guitar, while Steve Hogarth delivers a top performance on vocals. Of course it would be a close race with some of the Marbles like The Invisible Man, Ocean Cloud and Neverland.

  • Con fish adquirieron genialidad y con Hogarth la belleza para expresar los sentimientos mas profundos

    grande marillion!

  • Just to echo what everyone else has said.

    Simply brilliant.

  • Hogarth's presence on stage is awesome. The group is simply perfect performing.absolute precision and sound quality. They transmit emotion on every song and audience feel a quick connection .

  • que belleza que sentimiento!

  • This is possibly the best version I've heard.

  • Such a tangentially song ... Greatest music on earth.

  • I never suspected Hogarth could be so intense on stage!!!! Wow! I have problems with albums following Strange Engine though.

  • the songs marillion produce produce are beautiful and steve hogarth is fantastic, i have followed marillion since they were formed in 1982 as silmarillion, and they just keep getting better!!!

  • They changed the name in 1981, Sillmarillion was formed in 1979.

  • There's no better singer than Steve Hogarth :)

  • i love marillion they are so good i cant explain it

  • I'm glad I don't live in Europe, otherwise I would do nothing else in life but following this guy all over.

SUPERB PRESENTATION !!!! - And I got the video AND a great friend...

    Kiss,

    Ana
