  • At least St. Helens had some character back then till the Council vandalised the Town Centre in 1974, and re-vandalised it twice since then. Its just a shit hole now.

  • I love this...i would love 2 step back in time and walk around st helens :)

  • @andy4248

It is not a Lancashire town.

  • HAHA GET ON ALL THE WOOLS USIN OUR WORDS PISS OFF YE HORRIBLE LITTLE INBREDS

  • @andy4248 Well andy,to my knowledge woolybacks were the men that loaded wool onto the ships in liverpool docks. Therefore us being called wools by scousers is a complete head scratcher, for they are the wooleybacks in truth.Anyways lots of them head down the east lancs to live here so it least we can re-educate em.

  • st helens is absaloutely fab and im really proud to call myself a st helener'

  • THE BIRGIES WOW

  • woolyback is anyone from outside of liverpool , phrase came from , sweaty little midgets carrying wool on ther back into the city (liveropol)

  • @andy4248 been around scallys all day probably.

  • @andy4248 liverpool dock workers

  • I visited St. Helen's for the first time this past summer (2010). My Great Great Grandfather - R.G. Brook owned & ran RGBrook Ironmongers out of Wolverhampton House on Church St. (The entire lower floor including where the Rendezvous Bar is) & lived on the upper floors with his family. He was on council, was a photographer (some of his pictures are in this video), & he donated the Market Street Fountain to St. Helen's (picture at 2:42). I would love to live there!

  • Well, the Dirty Old Town was Salford. I was taken to 'Sintelings' by my family many times as a child; I thought it just about the worst place on earth! Years later I met someone from the Royal Commisson of Historical Monuments ( who survey the country). I asked him which place he considered the ugliest in England: like a flash came back 'St Helens'!

  • @Tombstone314159 was the guy from wigan by any chance? since wiganers hate people from st helens an people from st helens are just plain jealous of people from wigan as it truly is gods own town!!!!

  • @crispee78 No, from Prescot (pron: Preskit) down the road. As a teenager St H became OK for its pubs, cinemas etc and we could walk (stagger) home if we missed the last trolley bus.

  • gosh, people need to chillax...

everyone knows that st helens is a ledgend, whether its a dirty old town or not.(me thinks not of course but still..) Im currently living in st helens, have done all my life, and i love it,so the people who are disrespectful to st helens, back off..

    Lots of love, yana1612<3.

Volenteer and the last Landlord to my knowledge was Dave Chisnall

  • town hall haha

  • sthelens =] wow sthelenns is just the best =] tah for uploadin mate x

  • There is an amazing fact i realized once more by watching this vid --- If you see a historic photo (taken quite a hundred years ago, and then you go and take an own black and white photo by the same place or object (maybe rarely changed), you wonder if it´s really the same place... because the "new" photo will show the object the same "real" way you have seen it with your own eye. But the older picture always looks so strict, rough and harsh...

  • i live in st.helens and it has changed much from 30 years and so on

  • omg, its mad how much everything has changed :O

  • Wolfgang Vock

  • oh manchester - so much to answer for...

  • I think this is a good version. Was there a girl who sang the same song (with feeling)? I heard it on late night radio once. (Seems to have struck a chord with my Irish ancestry).

  • You are a pleb with no appreciation of heritage.I bet you and the boys have many a genetic deficiency

  • Wish we still had the tram lines running through the centre near bus depo.

  • Under the roads the old tram lines are still there just buried under the tarmac like the old cobble stones. Pity really the roads are not like that anymore there would defo be no pot holes.

  • hmmmm love that song, fits very well ;)

  • I love looking at old pictures of town, thanks. : )

  • For gods sake guys chill out

  • These pics are quite amazing, though the idea of the video isnt, Moron. Maybe St Helens was a old dirty town, we did used to be an Industrial town, you dike. Come here now, and you'l see how things have changed. Nothing wrong with it or us.

  • hey idiot, im in a good mood today thats why im not swearing, the point is, thats my home town, and the only reason it looks dirty is because them pics are about 80-100 years old, today, st helens is one of the best and technological towns in the north west!, and the the most technological is st helens town central, oh and btw it isnt dirty u fucking prick, oh and 1 more thing, never, ever, ver , ....come to st helens , because you dont want me to see uin a dark alley

  • you really dont get it do you? The clue is in the title of the song. Dirty "OLD" town. The photos are from a time when industry in st.helens was thriving, pilks, beechams etc. and it was a dirty old town. By the way i've lived in st.helens all my life

  • @funnyvidzrus
