Can you imagine how much concentration and focus it takes to sing live without missing a note and keeping in step. These young men were awesome, amazing, the best!!!
watching this,i am just getting goose bumps all over and getting teary eyed.Amazing!!!!!Just brings back memories....I Love You Michael and the jacksons..Love you More Michael..You will always be in my heart and memory...I can look at you every day because i have my memorbelia of you and my calendar that i can look at every day to see you.Peace And Love You Always.. My Sweet Angel <3
It normally doesn't bother me when idiots click the dislike button on classics like this, but honest to God, for anyone who does that for this performance, you deserve to have your Your Tube privileges revoked. I was only in pre-school when this special aired in '71 (on ABC I believe since they also had the J5 cartoon)...I wouldnt trade my memory of my family and I watching that night for the world. Thank you for this amazing post. Michael & J5 Forever!!!!
@Bentom86 So true! Anybody that clicked disliked is proably deaf, dumb, and blind. I actrually saw the Jackson 5 in concert in 1971 in Minneapolis (I was in 7th grade). I'll never forget it. Get this, The Commodores with Lionel Richie was the opening act. Nobody knew who the Commodores were at that time. They didn't have their first hit unitl a few years later....
@steagle9000 You too? I saw them in San Francisco. I remember the Commodore's 'Machine Gun'. Those were the days. Did you see them in 1970? I did. We were lucky to get tickets. That's when the top ticket prices were $6.50, and you got more than one act!
I was blessed to see the Jackson 5 (later the Jacksons) 4 times. The first time time when Michael was about 11, he is only a year older than me and even then I knew I was watching someone and something special. Thank you God for loaning the world Michael and the joy he brought us. Rest now Michael, well done my friend!
@OSUalum41; Sadly, back THEN, a lot of people thought the same thing. They got NO recognition from critics or the public for their musicianship. At least today people now realize that they were/are first rate...& have been since they were teens.
How great is that white couple in the crowd at 2:46? They look like they have no idea what's going on. I checked out this clip to see Tito and Jermaine play. I always thought their guitars were basically props. Turns out those two are first rate musicians.
Michael was one of the boys to feed his family, he was not the only one on the stage. Joe jackson had all his men working, look at jackie and marlon working it out on that stage and the music is coming from the tito and jermaine. Michael was one of the mighty jackson five. They were all great thanks to Joe.
@hezziejanel Yeah' but at what cost! MJ became a prisoner of his own fame, a baby cub thrown 2 the media wolves, I know the past is past & time stops 4 no1. But if it could I wish at 88. Yes, all of MJ backup singers had a part in feeding the family but MJ was the dad who brought home the steak & potatoes. If MJ had quit, but he couldn't there would be no more group, 4give me; the best group w/out Mikey & joe knew this, he probably would've left the family 4 other women like many sorry men do.
i cant get ova this video imean the entire video is fukkin amaizing but the begining of the show is sumthin serious.lik them boys put their all in that show
I was 9 years old that year. I think Michael would have liked my company if we had ever met. I collected praying mantises, fireflies, snakes, horned toads, turtles... drove my mother nuts. Everything had to stay on the porch. If she needed me she knew I was probably up our tree or on the swingset. I was quiet, a listener, can relate with the abusive father. I can take my guitar, sing alone upstage in front of a crowd, but as soon as I'm done, I'm off and disappear. I can't handle them one on one
I'm a year older then Michael Jackson. I followed his career from when he was a little boy. To have lost such an Angel, was like losing an arm. He is surely missed, a heart of Gold.
At 3:18 Marlon is screwing up the dance move. Watch Michael first then watch Michael. Marlon is moving the wrong effing arm. I hope Joe didn't see dat. Michael is a BEAST as always.
you meant to say he has the wrong arm up. the only way he could have "messed up" the dance move would have been to not spin around in a circle. either get it right or don't say anything.@ThatGyrl27
@SajjMan No I said what I meant. Both Jackie and Michael are moving their right arm and keeping their left arm still. Marlon is doing the complete opposite and therefore is a screw up. And thank you for pointing out that he has the wrong arm up. That makes him an even bigger screw up!
@ThatGyrl27 so is jackie, so if Michael did it with the other arm, they would all be doing the same dance moves, or maybe Michael was the one that got it correct
1:26-1:42!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!! IM SOOOOO OBSESSED WITH THAT PART! HE EVEN DID DAT WALK IN HIS 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION WHE HE PERFORMED YOU ROCK MY WORLD!!!!!! AHHHH!!!!!!! i love you MICHAEL!
u where lucky 2have a dad by the time welfare was formed they wouldnt let blackmen live at home with his wife an kids.their where no laws inplace to hire blackmen so they didnt,no affirmitive action.blackmen couldnt work, government kicked them out of their homes gave the women a few dollars a month, each saturday welfare walk up an down the community looking 4 a blackman n a house,if a blackman had been their theyd take the money back an next month the kids didnt eat.
blackfathers had to hide from cops/ kkk at night MrJackson, was a angry blackman like most where,he loved his kids,he also knew if he didnt keep a tight hold on all them boys" theyd b dead.either by the hands of nite cops or angry white mobs, they got drunk at night went "huntin 4 niggas"which was a common practice, til the late 70's, white mobs would hunt down kill the 'FIRST NIGGER U C."we all had angry fathers as blacks,he wasnt angry at his kids, most blacks dad where just like Mr.Jackson.
most blackfathers where hard on their boys, thats just the way it was,cops/kkk killed blacks with no fear of the law,Joe Jackson grew up in a time he wasnt allowed to look at whites,by the gangs where forming from angry blackmen that wasnt allowed to work, but if the women went on welfare fathers had to leave home, blackfathers where very hard on their boys afraid they would get killed, most blacs knew and understood that
Im always amazed by how good they were, but damn. Watch any of their clips- they are working HARD. Ridiculous talent or not, I can't imagine that kind of pressure on a little kid.
Same with a lot of their recordings- there are plenty of songs where Michael just sounds like he's pushing as hard as he possibly could. Thats heavy stuff.
Keep in mind, this was 1971 - no samplers - they took those very sophisticated Motown records, broke them down for a 4-piece band and went out and rocked arenas around the world. All things considered, one of the most remarkable groups ever!
@lianjie1963 check out the Isaac Hayes original it is where they got it from. But I can tell you have no music info because you r are a youngin. Dionne Warwick recorded this song written by Burt Bacharach. The J5 just put some gansta moves and style of their own to this piece. Feel me ? It's all luv cause u may already know this but 4 those who don't take notes.

I Have no idea who you are, but thank you a million for posting/sharing. This is absolutly incredible footage, that I was pretty sure existed and always hoped to see one day!! Rare Stuff, super high quality....A Real Gem.
God I wish I was born during dis era. I swear my grandparents and parents had it good back then. Oh wat shitty performers we hev 2'day now. My God Tito wit da electrick n da organ is really ripping da song. Of course the dance moves. Lol @ da beginning Michael banging his grind with the beat and Randy copying with the peace sign. And @ 1:30 tell me which kid can work up a crowd like Unlce MJ. @3:30 OMG they really feeln it. Also I guess this must be CHUCH cuz the girl getn in da spirit @ 2:29lol
Watching the reality show It's obvious Jackie is closer to Marlon and maybe Michael because they were the dancers and had to preform together. Jackie was born on his mother's birthday, so as well as Michael got along with his mother he probley got along just as well with Jackie. I remember seeing in the movie Jackie trying to protect Michael from a gang of fans.
@Toiletcoffee I thought so too, but apparently Motown would not let Tito play lead on the records (they got a session musician to play the chords!?! (makes no sense to me!)
Once agai, you manage to get the highest possibly quality vids of The Jacksons/Jackson 5! How do you do it? And how much would you be willing to sell a vid or two for, now that i have a paypal!
Can you imagine how much concentration and focus it takes to sing live without missing a note and keeping in step. These young men were awesome, amazing, the best!!!

I'm wondering if that girl in the crowd knew anyone she was falling out over. lol She was hilarious

Tito can really hit the cords.

@Toiletcoffee I thought so too, but apparently Motown would not let Tito play lead on the records (they got a session musician to play the chords!?! (makes no sense to me!)
