I was only in pre-school when this special aired in '71 (on ABC I believe since they also had the J5 cartoon)...I wouldnt trade my memory of my family and I watching that night for the world. Get this, The Commodores with Lionel Richie was the opening act. Nobody knew who the Commodores were at that time. They didn't have their first hit unitl a few years later....

The first time time when Michael was about 11, he is only a year older than me and even then I knew I was watching someone and something special. Joe jackson had all his men working, look at jackie and marlon working it out on that stage and the music is coming from the tito and jermaine. Michael was one of the mighty jackson five. I was 9 years old that year. I think Michael would have liked my company if we had ever met. I collected praying mantises, fireflies, snakes, horned toads, turtles... drove my mother nuts. Im always amazed by how good they were, but damn. Watch any of their clips- they are working HARD. Ridiculous talent or not, I can't imagine that kind of pressure on a little kid.

Same with a lot of their recordings- there are plenty of songs where Michael just sounds like he's pushing as hard as he possibly could. Thats heavy stuff.

Watching the reality show It's obvious Jackie is closer to Marlon and maybe Michael because they were the dancers and had to preform together. Jackie was born on his mother's birthday, so as well as Michael got along with his mother he probley got along just as well with Jackie.
