You can learn the exact details of what really happened and what precautions were taken by tuning in to NBC Feb 12 at 8pm when the video will air along with interviews from myself, the performer and the man who extinguished the flames. It helps to know the full story!
Its a real horrible shame when this goes wrong. I realise this is an old vid but to drive the point home... Fire breathing goes wrong too easily. Don't do it
1. Fire breathing with the wrong fuel! Any fuel that burns as a liquid is NOT SAFE FOR BREATHING (This is due to the flashpoint).
2. Technique. You must aspirate the fuel not spit it!!!
3. USING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON A PERSONS FACE!!! Use a wet towel... An extinguisher can cause burns and probs... Any trained person should know this!
I agree, the Volcano should never be done the way she did it. She also may have to much fuel in her mouth. I quit doing the Volcano in my fire eating routine many years ago. I had one accident doing it, And that was after many years of experience eating fire. I do not what fuel she was using I alway good zippo lighter fluid. I saw a fire a few hours,Brian Brushwood, he works the college circuit, very good magician He was also using zippo, I recognized the smell.
@ezio869 indeed she did and in fact made certain she was ok and willing to have this posted. She also did an interview along with me that aired on TV I would never have shown this had she not been ok and had she not been ok with seeing this.
I'll tell ya what she did wrong: 1) she used the wrong fuel 2) she tried a volcano (breathing straight up) with sloppy technique 3) She had the wrong teacher What she did right: -She had multiple people spotting her for safety -She had fire blankets and extinguishers ready. -she had people handling them who were trained to use them properly -She had enough separation from the audience to keep this from hurting unsuspecting people. I give her a C-
@Tedward4U gimme a break she probably does know what shes doing but shes only human and people make mistakes sure she screwed up big but was probably just a lapse of judgement...
After watching again, I'll stand by my earlier statements. She had the wrong fuel: At best that's bad planning and she had to switch fuels, but more likely that was an intentional choice. Look at how long she holds the fuel in her mouth. 6 out of 10 for showmanship, minus several points for good health sense (even without the accident). For that I blame the teacher. fire breathing isn't the kind of thing you want "lapses" in judgement. This is why.
she freaked out when she should have stayed calm and had her safety been paying attention she wouldnt have been burned so badly and practiced putting out face fires its not that hard i breathe fire with a full beard and have to do it all the time
Please understand I only felt comfortable even looking at this myself after hearing she was ok and was even curious to see pictures herself. Sometimes it is better for kids to see accidents like this to appreciate the dangers and see that this is even risky for a professional!

If she just closed her mouth could she have potentially put out the fire inside?

Cracher avec un haut synthétique...
:(

Remember:
Always check the wind, even if it means facing away from the audience.
Have several wet safety blankets for this.
NEVER breathe fire directly up- if you lose pressure it will fall back on you.
Glad to know she was ok after this, poor gal.
