man i love this movie.it's johnny depp at his weird best.this is a movie that i never get tired of watching.martin landau was great as beal lugosi and bill murray was funny as ever.i saw plan 9 and it was entertaining.i know it's supposed to be bad but i have seen worse.
I didn't exactly like this movie. It's well made and everything, and plenty entertaining. But it sort of portrays Ed Wood like he was a simpleton or something. I think Burton was a bit presumptuous with a lot of aspects of this movie
Personally i think this is best film that Tim Burton every made. I always hated his Batman. Never cared for Edward Scissorhand. And Beetlejuice was o.k..
@CosmicRewind: No, Leni Riefenstahl, the director of the notorious Nazi Germany propaganda films Triumph of the Will and Olympia, should get the "award," despite her talent. With an Edward D. Wood film, you either enjoy it or you walk away thinking, "This guy didn't know how to make movies." With Riefenstahl's films, you get glorifications of Adolf Hitler and nothing else.
@jackxl53 le me clear things up for you. Is name is Edward D. Wood Jr. or Edward Davis Wood Jr. but the abbreviation for his name has always been Ed Wood. Im not kidding you the film is based on a true story.
@KelanDWood I know its a joke. The "lol" I put there implies its a joke and that I wasn't serious. I hve seen the movie and I did think it was alright.
@jackxl53 oh I thought the LOL implied that you thought the mistake was funny. I respect your opinion. I love the movie because I can relate to it. I've made short films because I love doing it. It's about ambition, being the best you can be. I can relate to this movie. And it's hilarious :)
This movie is hilarious!! I kept laughing throughout the whole thing. Definitely worth watching. Johnny does such a great job, and how he talks with that lisp in the movie, he deserved an Oscar for this. And Bill was hilarious too. Great movie.
@kimberleyseetoes Good guess, only problem I see with this comparison is that Wood was actually passionate about what he did Boll doesn't seem to give a shit when he's making a movie, and he's pretentious enough to say the likes of Spielberg are jealous of his talent, Wood actually had respect for his much superiors.
@kimberleyseetoes i've not seen his movies but Uwe Boll's reaction to criticism is irritating and he's an asshole. Sure Ed Wood was sad at times about what people thought of him like most people would be but had ambition,he tried to be the best he can be. He did what he did because he loved it not because people would like it. Uwe Boll said to someone that they should go f*ck there mom because they gave him a bad review. What a douche bag. How dare you compare the two.
@KelanDWood Sorry I haven't seen movies from either directors or Ed Wood I just know in general people said they were bad directors so I thought I would make the connection with that alone. Ed Wood seems like an interesting person hence I want to see this movie
It's sad that Ed Wood never lived long enough to see this movie. It absolutely does not mock him, even though the movies were attrocious. His shows that his 'vision' and passion for cinema put him with the greats
What's weird about this movie is that it's made in the 90s, the plot happens in the 60s, it's made to look like it was made in the 40s, and I watched it in the 2000s! Mind blowing!
But i think the decision to make this black and white is what made this a flop. With 18 million dollar budget, the movie only earned 5 million. Maybe if the movie was shot in colour to reflect Ed Wood's colourful and weird life, it would have made much more.
@toxicMDR2: The events in the film took place in the 1950s, not the 1960s. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who also wrote "The People vs. Larry Flynt" and the Andy Kaufman biopic "Man on the Moon," called Wood an "anti-Great Man." They limited the focus to Wood's three films with Bela Lugosi, "Glen or Glenda," "Bride of the Monster" and "Plan 9 from Outer Space." They chose the "premiere" for "Plan 9" and Ed saying, "This is the one that I'll be remembered for" as the exit.
I think that this is Johnny Depp's best film because he really captured Ed Woods love of film and that is what impressed me the most plus the humor and other good actors.
Johnny Depp's Best Performances: Edward Scissorhands (1990) Benny & Joon (1993) What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) Ed Wood (1994) Don Juan DeMarco (1994) Donnie Brasco (1997) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) Secret Window (2004) Finding Neverland (2004) Public Enemies (2009)
Great movie. I expected nothing from this movie, but it was perfect movie making. The best film of 1994, so much better than the overrated "Forest Gump
Besides Sweeney Todd (because it was already a great story), the only Burton-directed movies I think are truly awesome are the dramas. Big Fish, Ed Wood, and Edward Scissorhands are pure gold.
One unique thing about Ed Wood is that it's the only Tim Burton movie where the music wasn't done by Danny Elfman, instead it was Howard Shore, who you may also know as the guy who did the music for many Peter Jackson movies, including the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
wow Ive scene almost all of tim burton's movies except this one and watching this trailer I'm a little disappointed in myself. I also have to say ever since that charlie and in the chocolate factory incident i felt mr.burton has been slacking.
@kallemick Yes Ive recently rented this film and now is my favorite Tim Burton film well I still hold Vincent,Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, BeetleJuice and Batman in very high regard.
Depp seems to put it on a bit much (which I guess isn't a bad thing), but you can see in the elevator scene with the trannies and Bill Murray that Murray is perfectly at peace with his character. In fact, he probably didn't even have a character in mind.
@atomichead777 well, I actually think 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' is Burton's best movie, but yeah, I know what you mean, this movie is fabulous! just great!
@hjfleeds you know, I don't think it's fair to say Ed Wood is the worst director of all time.
