I think that was Mandes aim, to make the noise of the gun startling and jumpy, examine it, its all silent, then there's this mighty bang. Breaks the atmosphere like a sword edge, it works beautifully.

Maybe you are commenting on the lack of music or diegetic sound at this point of time in the film, to show the contrast the sound of the gun makes to Lester's contented silence. This creates more impact on the audience than if there was loud dramatic music until the final "bang" that has come to represent death.

She somewhat felt like her life was in ruin because of her husband Lester. She planned on shooting him down but you can tell from the way she reacts that she wouldn't have been capable of it.

Breath taking, Almost every night I look out my bedroom window into space and I see the planes in the night sky and listen to this soundtrack, and it makes you think what an amazing life you have and how much beauty there is in the world...

Just amazing... Everywhere around the world there's something to be explored, not surprised that there are no dislikes... Thumbs up for this video

Since it started at 2:15 in the morning on TCM where I am (Maine), I set my alarm to get up and watch it. As soon as it started, I didn't feel sleepy anymore. :-) I am thinking of buying it myself.
