You have no idea of what you speak. Having been involved with the church I can tell you JPII may have had a stage precence but did little to renew the church. Benedict has to cleran his mess up AND has done some remarable diplomacy himslef.
During WW2 pope met with Hitler and Nazis. Now it's holocaust survivors.
Damn, I'm kinda disappointed they didn't declare Obama a saint. They did nominate Hitler for nobel peace prize, Obama actually got a nobel peace prize of being the first ever black puppet. I think if he was declared a saint they would have gotten their tax on air and population reduction in Hopenhagen. So that penguins wouldn't drown.
After it's done and said in U.S., I bet pope would meet with FEMA camp survivors.
I am not Catholic, but I think that JP2 was a great man. I was especially moved when the announcer in this video said that he carried one of the survivors when she was a little girl to the train station, so that she could get help.
@xneondropsx I also think that he was a great man - I only wish he had taken a different and more liberal attitude towards Latin America and perhaps a more intelligent standpoint on AIDS!
I don't know Pope John Paul ii's history, and I don't really care. During times of war, it is human to do what you have to in order to survive.
I'm not Catholic, I'm not even religeous, but I was a fan of John Paul ii. I remember that whenever Pope John Paul ii got off of a plane, he always kissed the ground, (a very humble jesture IMO) and he always had the most scerene, warm and contented smile I have ever seen on anyone.
After the war, the Papal State continued to show it's sympathies towards one of Europe's most bloodthirsty rulers: When Pavelic died in Spain in 1959, he received a special blessing from Pope John XXIII on his deathbed. This for a man whose murderous regime had it's own way of dealing with the so-called "final solution": To "kill a third" of the Jews, Serbs and Roma people of Yugoslavia, "deport a third" to the concentration camps, and "convert a third" to Roman Catholicism.
You have never learned history didnt you? Warsaw in Poland was a nazi nightmare, fights and upraising all the time, comparing to france or netherlands that capituled straight away
I love you holy Pope John Paul Ii, please pray for me and my family. I raise you up to the most High. Make my prayer like incense and take my prayer to our heavenly Father.
Pope John Paul II - mysticaly slept in April 2005, just like Lazarus -, present Pope Benedict XVI, and "the Little Pebble" i.e. Pope Little Peter Abraham II.
The roots of European and Christian anti-Semitism is replacement theology. Most of the traditional and liberal churches are built on anti-Semitic replacement theology. They have learned nothing.
The Roman Catholic theology is anti-Semitic in its nature.
Letter sent to Vatican by Andrei Sheptyski, leader of the Uniate Catholic Church in Lwov, August 31, 1942:
"For more than a year, not a day has passed without the most horrible crimes being committed. The Jews are the primary victims. In time, they began to kill Jews openly in the streets, in full view of the public. The number of Jews killed in our region has certainly surpassed 200,000."
I think it's unfortunate that people come on here and say 'you Jews are great' or 'we love you Catholics'. For me, the whole point of the event was that it cut across such distinctions to celebrate the common bonds that unite us all. Only they can prevent future holocausts.
Any who know of the life of Karol W., know that many a lesser man would have filled his heart with hatred and scorn. Not this man. He was so above the majority. It is hard to decribe in mere words. It pains me to know most will never know what he meant to the world. This comes from a Southern Baptist who knows it is my duty as a Christian Gentile to protect my jewish brothers and sisters.
@angelmarine1292 Perhaps you should study your history ....not all Catholics share your love for the Jews...quite to the contrary and for centuries Jews suffered injustices, atrocities and murder in Catholic lands .
Many Jews who escaped from Spain went to MUSLIM lands were they were welcome and treated with much respect. Some Muslims TODAY might hate Jews because the Zionists invaded Palestine and displaced the people in their own land. Please get your facts right.
He was a great person.I am a protestant but i love pope john paul 2.Imagine a priest carrying a jew woman to survivors camp and meeting her again after years.
So moving! The narrator is talking about one of the women survivors who, as a child, was carried to the train station following her liberation by a young Polish priest who would become Pope John Paul II and now she is meeting him again! Amazing. RIP John Paul and long live Israel.
Look how he walks to them not they to him. He was a true compassionate creature who loved everyone. He met with everyone without preconditions. I get emotional every time I see his face. Swiety Natychmiast!!!!
"Nas"?
God bless all who wanted peace.God bless JPII, shalom Israel.
To Elibouscher: my grandfather is one of the Rightous Among The Nations (see: Chasid Umot Ha-Olam). Sad to read your comment. More than 30% of all medals given in the world belong to Polish people. Everyone from my country who did kill any of them was and is our enemy too.
Check the list of all Rightous from Poland (Yad Vashem, what was Zegota during Warsaw Ghetto Rising and find out at least who's Wladyslaw Bartoszewski.I don't know any anti-Semites from my country yet.
With all respect to the Catholic Church, it is a historic fact that in countries like Poland most Catholic Churches (untill today!) are antisemitic and in the war openly supported Nazism untill the Jews were slaughtered. Let's not forgot that Progroms and attacks against Jewish villages or ghetto's in Poland, Russia and other east-European countries were mostly Catholics for centuries. Also in Holland our Catholic Church openly distance itself from Antisemitic Catholics in (east)Europe. Shalom
wrong i small majority did, in the 1500 century after king Jan Sobieski won over the Turks with his 30.000 army against 200.000, he invited all the jews to stay in Poland because there was no way for them to go, is that also an ignorant lie my brother?
eli: You must have your facts confused !!! Either that or you are intentionally attempting to spread falsehoods. The Catholic church in Poland did not support Nazism. Secondly, Russia is not a Catholic country !!! The pogroms which you speak of occured mainly in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Let's of course not forget the "minor" role the Germans played in all of this !!! The Germans were innocent bystanders according to you, I suppose.
Only the Catholic Church protested against the Hitlerian onslaught on liberty. Up till then I had not been interested in the Church, but today I feel a great admiration for the Church, which alone has had the courage to struggle for spiritual truth and moral liberty. - Albert Einstein
Pinchas E. Lapide, Three Popes and the Jews, p.251
So many lies towards the Catholic Church...it only reflects the times we are living in. As you can see, our pope had great love for every man...Benedict has the same. It's love that comes from Jesus Christ towards each of us....because that love is universal...just like the Church is. So when the pope says "jewish brothers" he does mean that! But the world is so cold that it starts to spit everything against that love. Just like Jesus said "they will prosecute you because of mine name"
Wasn't it the Vatican that during the course of WWII firmly avoided to condemn the mass murder of the Jews, although they were presented with lots of evidence including photos and written testimonies? Of course at that time Rome was still controlled by theAxis and an open condemnation would not be a wise thing to do.I believe there is a movie about that too.
Well I do agree that the axis powers did take alot of power in the vatican, but it was the pope who told secretly to catholics to take in the jewish people who were being persecuted and this saved the lives of around 400000 to 500000 jewish peoples.. god bless!
We need to forget our differences with the Catholics and Christians, and work together! In the modern era, Christianity is not the enemy of Judaism.
It was a very nice thing for the pope to do, and instead of complaining about things that happened hundreds of years ago, we should be appreciative and humbled by ANY gesture of support or sympathy.
Let us not forget that Christianity was born from our own religion. They are our extended family.
I agree with you so much. We are all children of the same loving God. I hope Christians and Jewish people can find more ways to be united rather then divided. What the Church did in the past is horrible, but what we can do together in the future will be wonderful.
gooner333=You are disillusioned about Pope John Paul II. He never sold cyanide gas to teh Nazis. You be careful who judge and accuse or one day you're the one who is going to be judged.
I agree. No one should speak ill of John Paull II, he was by all accounts a wonderful man. He did a lot of good things for a lot of people. Did you hear the end of the video? Where it said that he actually saved one of those survivors when she was an infant (and well before he was the Pope?) That was amazing.
"ZionismlSfashism" is just a little defensive, but hey, we all get that way sometimes. Rest assured that most Jews consider Catholics/Christians to be good people and friends.
I think you are confusing John Paul II with the current Pope Benedict.
There have been stories about Benedict's involvement with the Nazis, however you can't believe everything you hear in the media. We will probably never know the full extent of his involvement (if any), so rather than fixate on that why not wait and see what kind of Pope he becomes?
What if he is a good man who will do good things for the world? I say that will be the true test of his character; not his speculatory past.
Pope Benedict XVI was in hitler's youth when he was younger just like any other youth who was living during the nazi regime. It was not something he wanted to do. This has been discussed before, please run back to 1978 when he was made cardinal and start there. Come back when you are done.
Is funny that people think the pope now was apart of the nazis, they prob. think he was fighting, yet he was a 14 year old boy then in a seminary/ boarding school with his brother, and it was required as you said to be in the hitler youth because you would be punished otherwise, so I mean really people should become more informed, god bless!
Does the sin of mankind change the teachings of faith? You can't condemn a faith nor the worshipers that follow that faith for the actions of people who committed atrocites. By doing so then you become no better than the nazis. Keep in mind that an individual should be judged by the content of his character and not by his or her religious beliefs or race.
Excuse me but it was Martin Luther's teachings which Hitler used in the Nazis propaganda to promote the antisemitism. The catholic church does not promote antisemitism. It is the ignorance of man which promotes antisemitism.
I have done some research. Apparantly Jews have also persecuted Christians, where they have gained a majority, such as at places in Poland. So much that the Catholic Church warned Christians from doing business with them, because of usury.
And Christians have persecuted Jews.
Point is, it seems to be human nature, not something purely Christian.
Aren't Jews persecuting people from Palestine these days?
Don't point fingers if God is pointing one at you. JPII was great, imo.

JP II was a victim of Nazism!
This is a beautiful act of his, to visit Israel and pay tribute to those killed by Nazi regime.

Excuse me but it was Martin Luther's teachings which Hitler used in the Nazis propaganda to promote the antisemitism. The catholic church does not promote antisemitism. It is the ignorance of man which promotes antisemitism.

Hi,
I have done some research.
