  • SO proud of my cultural richness and treasure like this! Spirit, optimism and passion!!!!

  • thumbs up for 2:00 !

  • The 12 people that disliked this video need to crawl in a hole an die...

  • where do i get this version of the hopak? i need it on my ipod!

  • Now all the girls go make a Kolatch.

  • The name "Ukraina" appears in the late 11th century, 1087, to be exact in the Primary Chronicle. It could not possible mean "Okraina" (borderland), as it was the center of Kyivan civilization (in fact, Vladimir-Suzdal would have been the "Okraina").

Ukraina seems to mean "Vkraina" - the country, our country.

  • @eberkovich Maybe the original meaning was country, but it doesn't stop Ukraine from being a "borderland." Their nation is where Orthodoxy and Catholicism collide; they have been the boundary between two foreign empires throughout history: Poland, Lithuania, Nazi Germany/Russia, Soviet Union; they are also a language borderland where Russia dominates the east and Polish influence in the west. Hell, their land occupies where the steppe, black earth, mountains, and Dnipro all collide.

  • 4:47 "Haha, I do this everywhere!"

  • 4:47 - the best moment)))))

  • Wonderful! My grandparents came from Ukraine (Galicia at that time), and my dad told us that my grandmother sent him to "cossack dancing school" when he was about 10 and he hated it b/c he had to wear "bloomers" (and so he got out of it after 3 lessons). I wish my dad were here now to see how grand this dancing really is! xopowo!..best I can do on this non-Cyrillic keyboard..

  • coza asy

  • thats amazing ,

  • This is awesome beyond words! I wish in my culture there was a dance as wonderful as this! :)

  • @GeniYVideO The elements of the Ukrainian martial artы

  • @Dmitry334 It's good to see that someone has commented on the relationship between the Hopak (from Poltava) and the dancing being based on our old martial arts. 'Cossack' dancing' was an artistic expression of the martial arts. Our cossack heritage lives on in our dances!

  • cool! respect to our Slavic brothers and sisters from Ukraine. when I was watching this movie I felt proud for our great culture!

  • i love being ukrainian:) but i feel like this is a major letdown. ive been ukrainian dancing for years and it seems like every ukrainian guy i meet cant dance anywhere near as awesome as this. way to raise false hopes, ukraine. hahahaha

  • I guess Hopak means: The men display TREMENDOUS leg strength and do all the work, while the women just stand there looking pretty.

  • @happy543210 basically... you're right

  • @happy543210 Are you in Ukrainian dance??

  • @orangecrazy100 I'm 43 years old! I can barely walk, much less dance!

  • If you pause right when the guy at 2:08 is doing his jumping bend thing, you'll see that he's actually transforming into a pokéball.

  • Ukranians are human helicopters!!

  • Fantastic interpretation!!! It reminds me of 1994-95 in July in Valencia - Spain.

Aleksey Zabashta...How are you after so many years???

  • does anyone know what the name of the musical piece is? i know i've heard it before but i can't place it.

  • this is how we attract mates in the ukraine.

  • 4:46 ftw!!!

  • Ta, ne ganite. Korchaginets(Kiev(Dvorets pioneroff)) rulit nah. Vy chto inteligentsyia?

  • At 1:57 I got dizzy!!

  • If I tried 9/10ths of those moves, you'd have to call an ambulance. LOL. Beautiful.

  • Where can i get pants and cloths like that !!!!!! I love my HERITAGE, 5generation Ukrainian Canadain here = S

  • @Mikemugee I am Russian but my father was Ukrainian, so this is also partly my heritage and culture.

As far as i know there is a big Ukrainian diaspora in Canada and i dont think that there is a problem to find a traditional cloths.

By the way the shirt is called "wishivanka", and pants called "sharovary".

  • @uliqed Not precicely 'vyshyvanka', Mike. That simply means a piece of embroidery. To be more accurate, it's a 'vyshyta sorochka'!

  • There is one issue I have with people performing these dances. If the dancer has no idea what the dance means or why they are doing it, the dance loses meaning. It loses what is sacred and beautiful.

I myself perform some of these dances and I do understand their meaning. Why they are sacred.

  • No wonder they wear those pants, they must have the leg muscles of bears!

  • Hopak is most famous and best known ukrainian dance in the world.

    Glory to Ukraine!

  • Man....at first I was skeptical that this hid any sort of fighting art then I saw 2:33...LMAO. Wow this is ridiculous, leg sweeps and spinning kicks...jumping double kicks.

  • @WhirlwindWerewolf

The hopak supposedly has a connection to the fighting techniques of the Zaporozhian cossacks.

  • @WhirlwindWerewolf ye during their time Cossacs were as strong as the Roman Empire

  • BREAKDANCE WAS BORN IN UKRAINE XD

  • @msbrainz What do you meen

  • Look at all those gorgeous ladies! Go Ukraine!

  • what she said, Ukraine Rocks!

  • @MrRohander

  • Some dancers performances are beyond physical laws.. Amazing ! Seven stars !!

  • i use to do that :)

but then i quite... it hurts your feet so much especially in those red boots :( but i think i might start again

  • Along with Georgian dances, one of the best folk dances of the world.

    Xai zhive Ukraina.

  • @drunchula You should see Eastern European Gypsy (Romanian/Hungarian)

Search: Romafest Gypsy Dance Theater - Verbunk

  • How beautiful all those girls are! Great dance!

  • Ukrainians are the best!!

  • WOW! what a great job this group does with Hopak. I was on a folk team in college and we use to do this dance. You really have to be in good shape. And, by the way when they spin, keeping their head squarely pointed to the audience and then flipping it quickly around; that is called spotting, something dancers do when they spin like that so they don't get dizzy.

  • What's the name of the technique that the centre dancer does at 4:50?

  • its called "povzanetz", sometimes "shuchka"

  • Love this.

    All Ukrainians should do this

it should be mandatory for body and spirit

  • Ech słowiańska dusza...

  • super!

  • 4:45 is some crazy sh*t!

  • @Safat09 Tak to buv bojovyj gopak, a ce vje tmistectvo tancju.

  • I have a friend who does this. :D I think she is amazing now.

She says the key to spinning is head placement.

  • I don't what she means by that, but yes, that's interesting. ^____^

  • the whole acrobatics were dazzling..

the whole fast spinning.. do these guys

have some sort of special training to keep them from not feeling nauseous or something?

  • @jetlagsyndrome i think no its just practise :)

  • Note that as they spin they keep their heads squarely pointed at the audience most of the time, then flip them 360 degrees very quickly. A slow example is at 2:56. This technique prevents the vestibular fluid in the horizontal semicircular canal from acquiring sustained movement thereby producing nausea.

  • good point. first important thing i learned this year. heheh

  • Bardzo fajne ! Niesamowici są !

  • Ya béxhotiw takwo tansiouwaté.

  • Is this Virsky? Stunning.

  • Clothes are pretty.

I want to wear this, but these clothes do not suit a Japanese...

    I like Ukrainian dance!

  • sure you could!

When I used to dance, we had an East Indian family who danced with us (he was one of the best male dancers that we had)

  • Can you dance Ukraine dance?

    It is wonderful.

  • This is the biggest Hopak I have ever seen!

  • loved it <3

  • cool!)))Ukraine rulezzz!

  • This is epic and beautiful. I long to be able to take part in the Hopak... but alas I am Irish... I feel as if it would be blasphemous for one of Hibernian decent, or any other decent than that of Ukrainian decent to intrude on such a sacred and awesome dance.

  • Ah, it is the passion that counts, not the heritage! Just marry a beautiful Ukrainian and you'll be alright. ;)

  • :) thanks! I'll head to Ukraine quick I can and find a totally awesome, totally handsome, hopak dancing Ukrainian man. :D

  • YEAH! *highfives*

  • god damn, can these people dance!

  • Virsky is the best!

  • Long live Ukraine!

  • where can I watch this movie???

  • omg i used 2 do ukrainian dancing! we were gonna do tht dance but i quit lol

  • Hop! Magnificent!

  • The group is Virsky! its named after Virsky himself lol

  • Does anybody know what dance company this is?

  • I think it's the Pavlo Virsky Ukrainian National Folk Dance Troupe.

  • gay as it looks, this dance is freaking hardcore. If you're a man, the first few practices will destroy your legs, and I can assure you, you will NOT be walking up and down the stairs for a good month.

Then when you get finally get used to jumping up and down like a frog for 20 minutes (way longer than in video), you have to learn inhuman tricks and moves that only boneless gymnasts do. Then when you're dead tired, there are the 'flag throws' in the end, except instead of flags, its a guy.

  • and you're a fucking moron, that makes us even

  • Sweet Christmas, it's like a fancy martial art!

  • this makes me regret quitting dancing lessons lol

    amazing video though

  • Long live Ukraine! Ridna Batbkivshina!

  • Yeah! I love Ukrainians.

  • I don't think ukraine was ever truly part of russia.

  • Proud to be a Ukrainian!

  • Congratulations. Keep Ukrainian culture forever.Shche ne vmerla Ykrajina.

  • Why oh why any ukrainian dance starts up some unnecessary political and ethno-nazist commentary??? WHY!

  • I know. Can't people just enjoy watching the dance?

  • agreed

  • Simple: Russians would not admit that we are independent nation. They are still living in a dream that communism created. In that dream Russians and Ukrainians live in peace like one nation, but there is a catch, in that dream Moscow is in charge and Ukrainians working their asses off to feed the rest. So we refuse to believe in that dream, and that pisses off the Russians.

    Best regards!

  • kranshteun-- those are some smart words brother!

  • Thank you friend ! It is an old story, but someone has to tell it:-)

  • @kranshteun U r right. Russia will always try to set up a RUSSIAN monopoly.

  • @kranshteun
