@marcaritta 1. If you're only in high school, don't study for the MCAT. Go hang out with some friends. You won't have the chance to once you get to med school. 2. It might be, it might not be. It depends on what classes you've taken in high school and how advanced they are. But the test and material can change so quickly that it honestly probably is too early to start studying anyway. Wait a year or so.
@Caram3lLov33 No. I took my first practice tests as a freshman. I did random practice sections whenever I felt like it, about once a semester...and then in the beginning of my third year I started doing them more often and doing some actual studying. Then in my second semester third year I studied harder and in May of my third year I took the exam.
@road2medschool I'm going to be a senior in high school and I've known my whole life that I wanted to be a doctor and go to med school. Is it too early to start studying for the mcat now?
would you suggest taking an organic chem course or do you think studying the material on your own would be sufficient? I'm in a nutrition major and I can take organic chem but it looks really difficult and i was thinking of just studying it on my own for the mcat but I'm not sure if taking the course will actually be helpful
@chelseagriswold I don't know if you have already taken the MCAT, but if you haven't TAKE the course. Taking the course will be more helpful than studying the subject on your own.
@KiyomiTakada I took all of my med school prereqs before taking the MCAT. The exception is I was finishing up physics II. I had been in bio for 3 years since its my major, plus taken the year of chem and ochem and physics
@KiyomiTakada It will depend on your particular exam. Ochem is included in the biology section...there really isn't too much but a lot of the ochem on the exam is probably from ochem II. My best suggestion is take the latest MCAT possible. If you aren't ready for it, don't take it. You should only take the MCAT once if possible. If you have to take it without finishing ochem, get a book to supplement what you know.

No. Your scores were not good enough. A 29 is NOT good enough.

@JG12234 Plenty of students get in with a score of 29, especially DO students.

@chelseagriswold To get into most medical schools they require that you take a year of organic chemistry.

@road2medschool Does MCAT have a lot of ochem II content in it? I don't think I'll finish MCAT course before I can take my first MCAT.
