@herodot2 It is a flute, not a recorder. In the original score, Bach notes that a violin, an oboe or a transverse can be used to play the part. Also, Bach utilized this Cantata for bass, baritone, tenor, alto and countertenor, and even changed the keys and orchestrations accordingly. Even great mezzos will sing this.
Il me semble que cela manque un peu de métrique. Et malheureusement, on a la désagréable impression que cette version fait du sur-place. La version de Max van Egmond (sur cd) est + enlevée et en même temps plus proche de l'idéal, de la foi, de l'élévation.
This is a Bible story of the st. Simeon, who once didn't beleive in the prophet scripture that the Virgin can give birth to the Saviour. An angel came to him and said: you shall not die untill you see Him with your own eyes. So he was waiting for his whole very long life. And when the deep elder finally took baby Christ on his hands, he said in tears: 'I had enough, my hopes have come true, I've seen You, now please let me rest in peace'. Very touching story it is...
Besides this fantastic performance, I like the Art work!

This is for bass-bariton, not tenor. And for oboe, not recorder.
