  • no sequel ever. This film was so far beyond perfect that any attempt to match it or better it would be an exercise in total futility!

  • J.J. connelly released a sequel to this book. I'd like to say, for the people that don't think a sequel is possible think again. In the novel by the same name, XXXX was in a similar scenario and shot by sydney, and he was in a coma. This could be the start of the sequel, although producers of the movie will be quite skeptical

  • such an amazing film! i wonder if they put in the mistakes, such as the 'bullet' which was actually a blood simulation packet flying at XXXX from his right but (forgot his name) comes in from his left, and just before she screams, Sienna is looking to the left, but then we don't see her look to the right before she screams and she's facing the right, deliberately. if so, its fantastic!!

  • and this is where xxxx forgot what shit looks like. Man this was one of the most amazing movies ive seen in a long time :) awesome ending, very clever

  • Bond did not return his items in pristine condition.

  • Q shoots James Bond! All those years of destroying his gadgets.

  • Tom Hardy was so skinny back then

  • he doesnt die he survives if youve read the book

  • The moral of the story is what you don't see coming is what hits you the hardest.

  • no need to call an ambulance or anything...

  • It is the ultimate display of Humanity. The most unpredictable thing in life is love and inexorably jealousy.

  • he should of had a V8

  • 0:39 theyre all eating layer cake. that's art right there.

  • and not the joe cocker one...... this piece at the start

  • @blackened667 Aria by Lisa Gerrard

  • @AlexYZ06 thanx, i actuallyfound it shortly after posting this, it seems very hard to find a version of it without the speaach at the start

  • @AlexYZ06 thanx, i actuallyfound it shortly after posting this, it seems very hard to find a version of it without the speach at the start

  • could some one please tell me the name of this track!!! it doesn't seem to be on the soundtrack

  • @blackened667 It's in the info to the right of the text... derp.

  • @HaterOFHater AAAAAH No it isn't Dude,,,,Does that sound like Joe cocker to you? that's the one when the credits are rolling. the one I was looking for is right at the start and it's by Lisa Gerrard.....Derp :) Thanx for the input though

  • What a movie!

  • Er... isn't that the exact same ending as Carlito's Way?

And what would be clever about that?

  • @sjam042 Which is ALSO the exact same ending for the recent London Boulevard. It's almost funny how writers are so original nowadays, yeah?

  • @lamchop7

Central character finally overcomes all seemingly insurmountable obstacles, finds a clear path to a new life with his love interest - and is shot, out of the blue, by a begrudging minor character the audience has forgotten?

Ah, so tragic, and so senseless.

    That's a direct rip-off, I reckon.

  • @sjam042 shit happens dog, gotta play to win! yeee haaawww

  • My name? Bond, James Bond.

  • Proud to be English

  • The new book Viva la madness is out in sept, lets hope the film follows soon. . . .

  • yeah they had talked about a sequel but that was some time ago. Besides I don't feel this movie needs a sequel as much as I would like i feel it would only dissapoint. And looking at all the drug movies made it all ends up in badly, ie; scarface, blow, etc. that is always like the moral of the film

  • No clever man ever fucks another man's woman.

  • @belikewater001

    Its all fair game

  • @belikewater001 Now, normally I'd agree with this. However Sydney wasn't a man. He was a god damn pussy. Haha

  • joe cocker song ftw

  • how cocky is Daniel's attire

  • holy crap I didn't realize that that was Tom Hardy till now lol

  • End is a bit like Carlito´s way, but I thought the name thing was a bit clever

  • @MstrPerez0 BWAHAHAHAHAAA!!!

  • the BEST ending scene ever....

  • @Glicknl He lives? I have yet to see a sequel

  • if anyone's seen the movie with the director commentary you would know that he doesn't really die. Matthew Vaughn says he didn't show him die because he would want to bring him back if he decides on make a sequel.

  • its the life we choose

  • Holy Shit Sidney ;|

  • so what is his name??? :S

  • Wow, I bet thats the FIRST time Daniel Craig dies in a movie

  • @bobbyhitsbakk009 (Spoiler Alert!) This isn't the first time he dies in a movie. He's killed in Road to Perdition, which came out a couple of years before this.

  • @BenLeeRocks It's all so fucking hysterical.

  • Why did that faggot shoot James Bond?

  • As the pusher stolen his former girlfriend.

  • Do you really think they are going to make a second one I heard they were but that was a while a go

  • whoever thinks the ending is bad is a total dumbass, the complete irony of being so clever as XXXX was and then dying by a jealous boyfriend is outstanding

  • damn, poor Daniel Craig, good ending, but looks like poor guy wasn't sure what to do now & in quite a bit of pain

  • I was very tired while watching this and hadn't payed that much attention to the movie so by the time i got to the end i just wanted to sleep, then that ending came and i shit myself.

  • yea it gives you a shock, just all chilled then suddenly NOOOOOO, BANG!, SPLAT!

  • Eddie set him up for kiling his 2 guards?? no, Sydney shot XXXX for having sex with his girfriend, tammy (sienna miller). one of my favourite films of all time. 5*

  • Its not clear why he did it, but I dont think Tammy was his girlfriend, I think it was cause he killed his uncle, and that he was jelous; a mix of revenge and jelousy...

  • Yea but you dont expect this one..

  • tha died and cam back as james bond

  • how embarrasing for Craig to get killed by a skinny little runt

  • dont see whats embarrassing about it.....

  • how do u know he died? brainiac

  • was he shot so that the scumbag could get to the top or cos he was fuckin the scumbags girlfriend?

  • cause he screwed his girlfriend

  • yeh he had sexual intercourse with his girlfriend

  • Nope, Eddie set him up. For killing his two guards

  • Eddie got shot in the face though, didnt he?

  • Your probbably thinking of Jimmy.

Eddie was the guy who had his men hang XXXX over the edge on top of a construction site.

He also gave XXXX the facts of life, that when your ontop of the layer cake you can do anything.

  • it's great how you never learn his name. I love how in the credits he's known as XXXX

  • its the same in most of Clint Eastwood `s westerns

  • Shame he died even though the ending is outstanding :)

  • he looks like he got hit in the lung. while he may have lost consciousness, and would most certainly feel like he was dying, he could have very well survived it.

  • Good Analysis, Dr. Sureshot649

  • Wow,are you a doctor?

    :)

  • In the book he lives...

  • That cake looks so damn tasty.

  • joe cocker - dont let me be misunderstood

  • Brilliant

  • Who did this version of 'Don't let me be misunderstood' for the credits???

  • Joe crocker

  • amazing movie.

  • NOOOOOO :))

  • Comment removed

  • im sorry lol

  • Jesus thats just such a fantastic ending. gives me goosebumps every single time . . . absolule poetry!

  • there's meant to be a sequel soon

  • please dont let me be misunderstood

  • wats the background music called why they are tlkin

    ?????

  • Lisa Gerrard - Aria (Featured in Layer Cake )

    watch it^^

  • the artist is joe cocker and i think the song is called misunderstood

  • hhaha hes killed the highest of the high and gets shot by a weedey nob, great ending tho didnt see it coming :D

  • this is one of the best movies ever. and the ending is so true and shocking: anyone can shit on you, even a worthless no name like the guy at the ending.

  • who sings tha song misunderstood

  • joe cocker :)

  • one of the best movies I ever saw

  • he mite not av died you didnt see him die

  • Oh the irony... he's the best killer out there, killed some of the most ruthless bastards anywhere, and some half-retarded kid ends up capping his ass.

  • how is he the best killer?

  • he's not the "best killer", he's the smartest guy in the movie. and yes, doctor obvious, that's what the message of the movie is. that even if you are in the top, you are still human, and any moron can come and kill you.

  • who said he died

  • he dosent die in the book and in fact j.j connolly is writing the sequal to layer cake and daniel agreed to play in the movie if the same director would do it! i think it takese place in the bahamas...check wikipedia its awsome! love this movie love british gangsta movies and love daniel craig!

  • @MechyC heyy this is not the bahamas its stoke park club in england x

  • I wish i could find this version by joe cocker.... only one I can find is diff and shitty

  • great movie, great ending.

  • i didnt realise that i didnt know his name until the end and was all "wtf"

  • @BBMng Blew my mind, too

  • didnt see that one coming like :o

    xo

  • f***ing great ending.. :D

  • best film ever by far

bit of an iffy ending though

  • Gazza is such a fag... or Sydney as u might know him better...

He shoots a man deliberately, then apoligises 2 seconds later.

  • wots the song at the end

    xx

  • Don't let me be misunderstood - Joe Cocker

  • wow i just looked everywhere for it

  • they wont do another i know what these film companys are like.... such a good film and ending tho one of my all time ever favourites

  • He doesnt die, in the book hes in hospital for 3 months and gets questioned by police and stuff and is told he needs to dissapear or they'll arrest him so thats what he does.

  • Yer he doesnt die i red the book(reccomended).

  • He doesn't die in this ending, if you watch the film with directors commentary, he said @ the end that XXXX doesn't close his eyes, so he isn't dead and the writer is writing a sequel as we speak

  • awsome movie!

    better than blow imo

  • the only bit i didnt like at the end, after watching it like 100's of times is the music. i mean with a scene like that all you need is the exact right lyrics and tune to be heard for it to be amazin... i know others like it i just think it could have been done slightly better

  • how would of you done it

  • im not sure, im no film maker, im just being fussy this is amazing. end of. :)

  • actualy I love the music of Joe Cocker, this one is very well hand selected, you should whatch the movie with the directors commentary, he gives some alternatives during this scene, so maybe you should give them a shot

  • wow thanks, i didnt realise... i will check it out cheers!

  • i enjoy the music

  • That i didnt expected!!!

    Nice shot man!!!

    LOL

  • simply excellent ending and acting

  • he doesnt die the authors makin a sequel

  • That´s because there is some alternative endings whre he doesn´t dies, see the DVD bonus features.

  • if the regular ending is him dying... i'm guessing what the alternate ending is?... i guess him living, that is the more suitable ending in my opinion. the movie is useless if the protagonist dies; besides, enough people died already... haha

  • He survived. And a sequel to the novel is being written, which Daniel Craig said he'd be interested in.

  • god...daniel craig is hot!!!!!! i love him in a suit...and, this may sound weird, even more when he's covered in blood :-D

  • the best ending ever,, good movie too!

  • Upon watching this, I must profess I STILL don't understand the mindset of downer=good. People say it's realistic...how many people watch films to remind them of reality? It puzzles me, it really does.

  • It is not explicitly shown here that he dies, and therefore you cannot/shouldn't assume he does.

  • did anyone besides me see the two other alternate endings?

  • alternate endings? where can i find them?

  • Yeah i've seen the alternate endings....ermm...the one where they get in the little red convertible and drive off and then the Dukes nephew follows them..and another one..i havent watched it for a couple of weeks..im over due a fix..i love this film..my fave..nothing comes close.

  • Haha, I love this movie. And I think that's the best possible ending that they could have had.

All he's been through... he's just getting out... bam!

  • i don't think he is meant to be dead or at least it is up to the viewer to decide, it is quite rare for a single shot to the body with a revolver to actually kill someone.

  • lol yep ur a dumbass

  • and you learnt everything you know from films i assume

  • and the only gun you must have used in your life was a cap gun your mom must have bought you from the dollar store... besides i watched commentary and the director said he died.. he was a bad guy.. he is the guy getting drugs out to ppl.

  • he is not dead because the writer of the book is writing the sequel to it. On wikipedia it says he survives the shot and is expected for the sequel to made into a movie.

  • who gives a fuck about wikipedia

  • lol yea.. wikis not really the best resource

seriously, i think its beautiful either way and i dont care what it really is

  • anyone can edit wikipedia...so most likly its fake

  • I wouldnt trust Wikipedia to get anything right. They said Jennifer saunders had 6 kid from different fathers and a lod of other stuff that was faff.

  • the director...awesome british director..and this is just a classic british movie.

That said im a Royal Marines Commando and even with todays assault rifles such as the US M-4 and British SA-80 the 5.56mm round often requires multiple hits to kill. 9 times out of ten it tumbles inside the body and causes massive injuries that takes several people out of action to look after the casualtie. Desired effect.

  • The ending does leave it open. But the point is, like Get Carter & The Long Good Friday, to which Layer Cake gives a big nod in a couple of scenes. The "hero" cops it in the end. You could have a sequel to The LG Friday and Layer Cake, but by doing so you would take away a huge chunk of what made the first film so special.

  • Miss Understood but i dont know singer

  • song by joe cocker

  • Joe Cocker - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

  • waht's t song?? when he shoot him?

  • he died or what?

  • What ticks me off about the end is that that little piece of shit shots him after he helped him get on that boat when the "cops" were after them, what a worthless scumbag

  • that's the message of the movie; that any little shit can kill you

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • nice (borat accent) lol

  • @Lonesomefolly So the message is, that dying is easy. Actually living, is the hard part. That's some heavy shite.

I've never seen this film but the music is super cool.

  • I hope, theres gonna be a sequel. Something like-He's not dead. he wakes up in hospital, after being shot, has nothing,no money no girl and decides to get revenge and BANG there goes a blockbuster he gets revenge, gets girl back and happy end, damn I would love that, and I know, that most people would too.

  • this may be a dumb question, lol, but did he die, or was there more to the movie?

  • apparently he doesnt die and their is a layer cake 2 but im not sure, when i watched the movie i guessed he died

  • ok thanks

  • "Aria" by Lisa Gerrard

  • What is the name of this song?

  • "Aria" by Lisa Gerrad

  • excuse me: Gerrard

  • Thanks, for your reply. However, the song I am talking about is the one that the man sings toward the end.

  • misunterstood joe cocker
