@Jbanto dude low budget college radio stations at least have talent to work with, this is more like high school or middle school level. its like they found a camera and had nothing else better to do.
These ads were a reflection of the audience it was targeting- emotionally stunted, lacking the maturity or common sense as to function in normal, social circumstances much less pick up on social cues that would permit them to have said social skills . They were intended to be funny, but just like with someone with poor social skills they tell awkward, off-color jokes that to normal people just aren't funny because they simply are not. Such was the downfall of KIN, by way of its ads.
From my understanding, their scripted ads weren't any better. They had this one where this chick meets her "online friend," shows up, he's way older than his pic suggested and then proceeds to humiliate him to all her friends.
I'd have to agree with Aanzen. While it is a bad message to send to teens that they should fly across the country to meet with strangers who are sexually interested in them, isn't it even worse to teach them that they should reject as creepy anyone who is unstylish and has limited social skills?
The one who is creepy is this holier-than-thou reviewer with her disgusted superior look. So the guy looks like a geek, so what? She'd be ok with some good looking frat boy who'll look cool, get drunk watching football and rape you just to brag to his cool retarded friends. And what's up with the argument that he is a stranger? How do you meet people if you avoid strangers? Should you only go out with your cousin? What a stupid BRAT.
I agree the ad campaign awkwardly places the product but, honestly, could this reviewer be any less awkward and unprofessional herself in criticizing the Kin by completely berating this fellow, Matty Goldberg? After all, isn't one of the real advantages of online social networking the opportunity to meet new persons one otherwise wouldn't in the non-virtual world? And while on the subject of meeting persons, this reviewer certainly should know that everyone's a stranger until introduced.
If a kid disappears after following this seriously flawed advice [and that's what it is] Microsoft execs could find themselves in court accused of aiding and abetting in the crime. The level of judgment employed here was so bad it's criminal.
@G58 OMG How is meeting up with someone in public that you met randomly online any different from meeting someone randomly in public? Do you think serial killers can't be charming? All the strangers she met in the ads, she met with in public.
What I think of you... well.. you have no Idea... yeah, and I mean... if I see you here talking? Are you the person I wanna meet? Naah, more the person I WONT friend of facebook... wtf?
Girl, you are talking bullshit, thats it.
I wanna meet other people, if they find me on facebook, why not. If they annoy me? Unfriend them. IT'S THAT SIMPLE
If I like the way they are talking to me - why not meet them?
Would you say the same about the good old pen pal? Don't meet that creepy guy?
@teearhbee2 I agree with you. He is, actually, really sweet and he's an amazing person. This is just wrong, the way they made him seem creepy. I love this guy. <3
OMG! That is creepy! Good job Microsoft, set a good example for your Kin users. Sniff Sniff.... I smell a lawsuit coming from someone who follows your commercials and doesn't have such a good experience when they meet with their "Kin".
wow, i think this comercial just makes people not want to meet thier online buddies. heck on my xbox live account i don't freind anybody i don't know in person. just to avoid creepy conversations like that..."do you think i'm hot?" jeeze defenetly a pair made in awkward heaven.

The woman doing this report probably doesn't have any friends, and lots of people end up in long term relationships with someone they met online.
