  • Should i get this? Mass effect 1 and 2 are $5 each on steam

  • am I the only person in the world who can't stand to play this game simply because it is so overrun with horrible lame bugs and stupid-ass teammate AI?

nowhere have a heard or read a negative response to this game :S I hate it

  • Mass Effect really is a great game - it gets much more interesting once you get the Normandy ( your spaceship ). There are plenty of sidequests and plenty of planets to explore. The replay value is good - you can try another class, go for achievements, make different moral choices and more. The story is quite good, especially if you are a fan of sci-fi. This is my humble opinion, take it for what it is.

  • ahhh i have played me1 and me2 on 360 now it is time to get them for my nice new pc! yey

  • Sunburn190

Yes, it will i play it on windows 7

  • will this work on windows 7?

  • top game good fps aswell as rpg

  • playing this at mo its a top game

  • Im a big fan of Neverwinter Nights & Dragon Age but my god the pc version of this game is terrible.

Ive not played the Xbox version so Im only judging by the pc version.

The control layout is the worse part & you need about 3 hands to play it.

    Plus it is unbelievably clumsy.

    The map is useless also.

I ended up quitting & uninstalling during the first level.

  • as usuall pc kicks console ass

  • Obvious fanboy is obvious. :P

  • im not being a fanboy im just stating facts

theres nothing well built up PC cant do better then a console

pluss its a pain in the ass to aim with a controller and not a mouse

  • So what? Just because the technology is better doesn't mean the games are better.

Look, I love PC gaming, but I also love consoles. I get something unique out of every platform.

Also, the controller works fine. Millions of 360 and PS3 owners are able to get used to it and have fun with it. You just suck.

  • But you can use a 360 and PS3 controller with most PC games using mods and downloading drivers.

360 is fine and all but you can get most of its games on PC anyway.

  • I never said I preferred the controller over the keyboard and mouse. I said the controller works fine. I actually prefer the KB/M setup for MOST games (emphasis on the word MOST.)

You can get a great gaming experience out of both the PC or any of the consoles. Arguing about which one is better/being an elitist about how "sooperior" your platform of choice is over the other options is both sad and retarded.

On that note, let me remind you that I have a gaming PC... and I love it.

  • Also, your stating that you OPINION is a FACT. Proof that you're just a fanboy.

  • @Zacsi not really the only difference is the pause option witch is for noobs

  • I like how they didn't mention the terrible sound problems. The music and weapons sound stutter like crazy!

Otherwise, great game. Hopefully Bioware won't fuck the sound up for ME2.

  • That sounds like a sound card/sound driver issue.

  • All of my other games have fine sounds. It's just another terrible console port, which is sad because it's such a great game on the 360, but now it's just barely playable on the PC (emphasis on "barely", because it's still awesome.)

  • @JohnKiller118 hey, if it sucks on your pc, maybe your pc just has the minimum requirements and cant run it as good as a really high end pc can

  • I got my PC last year! It can run the damn game! It's just that the porting was terrible!

Thankfully, the improved everything in Mass Effect 2. I get a high framerate, the game looks great, the sound is spectacular, and it's an awesome game too.

  • JASON, UR THE MAN!!!!!!!!!

  • Great game. Bought it on steam 2 days ago over steam, got up early yesterday at 9:00am to give it a 3 hour run before I started a university assignment, ended up playing outright until 3:00am, 15 hours straight, was too damn good to shut off, fantastic story. Few complaints, the AI was kinda weak at times, but otherwise solid game.

  • @Mcplkelly so did u start ur university assignment?

  • this is only 10 bucks on steam this weekend.

  • How demanding is this game ? I have a Gigabyte GTX275, Intel Q9550 and 4Gb of ram. Will i be able to play this game with high setting in the resolution 1440x900 (native resolution of my lcd-screen)? And further more, what about all the bugs (random gamecrashes and so forth) that plagued the pcversion, have they been adressed in newer patches? If so i will definetly buy it from Steam ;)

  • what this a song??

  • It's part of the game.

  • does this game have loot drops wich include things like weapons and armor, iff no.. then how do you get armor and weapon upgrades?

    thx in advance! :D

  • you get weapons from dead enemies, containers and you can also buy them from people

  • You do, kinda... you kill alot of enemies and it sorta auto-picks up, then the next time you go to your equipment menu it shows you a list of the stuff you've picked up and asks you what you wanna keep, throw away, or reduce to base compounds. There's also ALOT of containers which are basically the sci-fi equivalent of treasure chests.

  • It would be smart to take from star wars and starteck they are the ultimate space adventures

  • I just got this game working finalllly!- With all the errors i was getting with the registration code- had constant binkw32.dll errors- etc etc etc, but i finallly figured out the whole entire mess and i just finished my first round of Mass Effect. I played for about 30 minutes just to get a feel for the game. It is fun and i love how the story fleshes itself out through alot of narrative and character interactions. Good stuff so far.

  • Oh crap, I don't know what to get now. I want an RPG, and it was oging to be Fallout 3, but now I'm thinking mass effect? Dang, I don't know which one.

  • get mass affect it's like 15 to 20 pounds then when Ur done with it fallout 3 should go down in price

  • It's a hard choice. I have both, and I must say that Fallout 3 is much more user friendly and inviting, which Mass Effect has some problems with(but most of them are removed on the PC version), but when Mass Effect shines, it shines as bright as something could possibly shine... It feels so epic, which Fallout 3 never does. But both are really good games! :)

  • I did a whole playthrough of this game from a friend's copy for the 360 and I absolutely loved it. But maybe that's because I'm entertained by a good sci-fi story. Still, I loved it so much for the 360. Unfortunately, it got the RROD. But since I didn't actually own the 360 game, I just decided to get it for PC, which I know is powerful enough to run it well :D

  • i have the game mass effect on my pc and i have played the game to the end 1 time and its awsomme and i need to do all thing nvm 5 stars ^_^

  • i'm getting the PC game this thursday! and i cant wait :) should i delete stuff off my computer, or should it run ok? =]

  • i thing you need vista and a preaty big memory card and fast computer and a good screen lol i dit this i thing and it worget :D + soilder is the easy class you kill too easly every 1 soo pick a class carefully

  • you need vista!?

ugh.. great.. that's something i dont have =[

and it cost a butt load of money. *sigh...*

    what class would recommend? [:

  • put i am not shure that it can play as normal windows lol put you need a good hard drive and graficks and sorry of my english i am finnish

  • lol ok thank ya much =]

and it's ok! you actually did pretty good :)

  • no u dont need vista. u can play it whit XP with SP2

  • I know im a bit late LOL ;) but make sure ur computer does not have anything that SecuROM will detect because than it wont work. Or u can download a secuROM crack. But i dont endorse using the crack.

  • I hope I can run this properly, I got a new laptop the other day and I went to that "Can You Run It" test website..apparently my laptop will be able to run it at its Reccomended settings. Rushed out and bought it and installing now. Wanted to play this since it came out on the 360 but I have a PS3 (don't want 2 consoles).

  • if i can play Crysis on HIGH with no problems, can i play this? (low, medium, HIGH, very high)

  • this is less powerful than crysis. ie, it have 2d stars back ground, while crysis have real 3d grass and trees. so yah... but if ur card is dx10 compatible, then no problem on either game.

  • Yes.... I can play crysis on high with small slowdowns here and there, and I can run this game like myself skating a crystal clear lake in mid-winter time :) (ok. That was a weird simile :P)

  • WTF? If the 360 can dish out more than my Q6600 9800gtx+ SSC edition and 4g DDR2 1200 then I must be living on a different plane of reality

  • looks awesome! think im going to buy it

  • For all the people who said the 360 runs better than the PC, I wonder what kind of specs you guys have. I played some mass effect on my friend's 360 & I must say it runs far better in the PC. The visuals are better (Max everything 1680x1050 with little to none frame-rate drop), very few bugs, pop-up texture, and my control preference is keyboard/mouse.

    2.4 Core 2 Duo

    3GB Ram

    Geforce 8800GT 512

  • believe me ive got it on pc and 360 and its MUCH better on pc. the controls are better it comes with the downloadable booster pack AND most of the bugs that were on the 360 one are fixed

  • i don't give a fucking shit, this game isn't better on pc, i've had it on xbox since the day it came out it runs very smoothly,

  • god damit! jason ocampo used to be at gamespot. I love this guy! anyway great game

  • Mass effect's DRM give you 3 lifetime installations, EVER!! ok so how will this fight piracy? Either I buy the game and am limited to 3 lifetime installations or i go pirate and download/copy and install it whenever, where ever, and as many times as I like... I will NOT buy the game because of the hassle and if I ever pirate the game (I won't), EA has lost a sale regardless. smart people workin at that there company.

  • i have it now:D

  • Both versions of Mass Effect is great the only thing I hate about pc version is what else EA logo popping out

  • Don't get mad its true.EA just wants the money

they just ruined a good franchise

  • pahaha he left gamespot becuase they went really down hill when that fat guy left. LOL!!

i wonder when gamespot will finnish? it might carry on in the UK

  • haha "that fat guy" i guess ur meaning Jeff Gerstmann one of gamespots best reviewers. he got fired cause he said what he thought of Kane & Lynch.. if u search Jeff Gerstmann here on youtube ull find alot of tribute videos.

  • I just downloaded this game it's sweet as... Yep! I hate myself for being a pirate too :(

  • It's a good way to try out games, BUT... I urge you to support Bioware, as they are the only surviving company that still make real RPGs with a good story, memorable characters and role playing options when you play. I'm currently playing AoC, but will be getting this soon as AoC's plot and quests are railed with only one way to solve everything.

  • sweet I love it when they just recommend and and not give a score with makes everything complicated

  • Like others have said, this helped me to decide to buy this. KOTOR was fun so and I'm looking for a game to capture my imagination like The Elder Scrolls series. I definitely give it a chance because sci-fi is awesome. Thanks for the review.

  • That helped me make my decision

  • 1 word. WOOT!

  • he was part of Gamespot i think ?

  • im glad that Sapphire decided to realese the HD3850 on agp socket. combined with 2 gigs of super talent ddr1 that replaced my old noname ddr1 1gig, i will play this game and im going to enjoy it.

  • in this game can you upgrade all of the character like the monster thing and will it save there spec for next play through

  • Didn't Jason Ocampo work with Gamespot?

  • did he say that after you complete it once you can go back through with the same high lvl charater

  • Yes he did. While you can't continue playing after finishing the main quest you can replay the game from the start with your same character who has all his stats, ablities, weapons, armor, etc.

Also like the 360 version the game basically saves your character and what decisions you made. So when you pop in ME2 you basically continue your story and characters while alive in well in your game and have hours and hours of dialogue could be dead in someone else's game.

  • thanks for the review,i'm getting it right now

  • can i use gamepad? he missed that part.. dude.

  • the game is especialy modified for keyboard and mouse although i think there will be gamepad support.

  • it has to be otherwise i'm gonna end their life with my cordless rumblepad 2 and run them with my g25.. with 2.6ghz core2 & 8800gt under my hood..

    do i make sense? lol

  • im fine with the mouse and keyboard. easier targeting and power and weapon choosing.

  • neah.. i prefer gamepad on this one..

i'll leave kb&m for fps shooting..

  • lol why did he leave gamespot?

  • fallout 3 will be better

  • Nice review, good comparison between xbox 360 and pc.

  • Just beat Mass Effect on PC a couple of hours ago. This isn't just a game, its an experience. Amazing.

  • good comment!

  • i couldnt agree more

  • @Wesujin i mean i was a HUGEEEEEEEE FF7 Fan.. and Zelda dude and am ALL INTO the sci fi style games feel no1 has done it quite like star wars... love the look and feel of the game.. just its so zzzZZZzzzZZ at times im trying to get into it but i feel like most of the time the games based on diplomacy around the council..

  • tnx for the review
