  • I love your presentation on Google voice and you do a fine job on your presentation. What I would like to see you do is more tutorials on the inner workings of Google voice exactly how to set up different voice prompts for different people. It seems like you have the complete inner knowledge of Google voice so would you give a complete, detailed lesson on how to work Google voice. Thank you

    Goes to nothing.

    Thanks for trying tho.

  • Does anyone know if - when you call and recieve the free calls, does it still count towards your Verizon minutes because it comes through your cell phone?? I need to know if I can save a lot of money by reducing my minutes to a much lower rate.

Still out of work - you know>?

    Please someone answer this..

  • @brae53 This should explain what you want to know...

  • Ok I'm not an anti facial hair guy. I just prefer to be clean shaven. Not trying to insult you dude. But that beard Is weird. I look at it and see you saying in heavy accent "mr bond I must have that microfilm" :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Dude you really need to shave that mustache and beard. You look like when the 12 year olds put on a fake beard and mustache for Halloween

  • Looks attractive to me. And yes I am a older happly marred woman. And not his mom. I miss my husbands Mustache. He cut it off when he turned gray.

  • "...my mom calling me to say she needs me to come over and help her with something stuck in her... uh... disposal..."

  • how to set ringback tones with google voice? please help

  • You should get a gold mic like Ryan Seacrest. That and your hat on the desk would have Ryan concerned you will take his job.

  • nice review....hope we get it in the UK soon

  • Hey here is my review on Google Voice.

    webupon(DOT)com/search-engines/google-voice-review/

  • so what if you change your phone number? what if you get a new gmail address? What if you have google voice and you move to another country? does google voice offer language support for Brazilian Portuguese?

  • @capoderra If you change your phone number you can add and remove lines for google voice to forward the call. If you get a new gmail address, well, I don't know about that one. I just got another google voice. I don't think I can answer any other questions. .. sorry.

  • the transcription to text works very quickly, now.

  • Thanks man

  • VoxTonePRO works amazing with google voice. you can customize your own voicemail greetings with professional voiceover people and background music.

  • I'm trading a Wave invite for a Voice invite. PM me.

  • @31323431313200 i have wave. it sucks

  • Hey Chris, great rewiew! Is it possible to have my cell phone ring, and then have the call re-routed to a second phone if I don't answer it. I like the fact that you can have many phones ringing AT THE SAME TIME, but I'd like to ring one phone at a time. In my case, I'd like to use the second phone as a backup if I don't answer the first phone.

    Thanks!

  • "keep it geeky!" lol Nice dude, very nice!

  • This is way too long! I couldn't bare to listen to the entire 19.12 minutes, so I don't know if he mentioned this one very significant shortcoming of GV - it has some real problems with latency. Everyone is complaining about it and GV is not responding to the issue. I do hope they fix it. GV is otherwise fantastic!

  • will trade a wave invite for google voice pm me (legit)

  • I'm in need of a voice invite, and am willing to trade it for a wave invite for anyone lacking. Message me and we'll figure it out. Happy hunting.

  • Do you have an extra GV invite we could have?

  • Actually, I can't seem to find how to send the invites. It says I can, but I'm not seeing where. In the few weeks I've had it though, it's great.

  • Leave a message at (615) 746-7522.

  • dare u to call me in ireland

    +353894178000 r

    paddytheman9

  • Call my number! 1 615-746-7522

  • why do you use the internet and comment on youtube if you dont like it?

  • I'm being forced to do it at dickpoint! Your father is threatening to have my ass.

  • when you call, does it automatically route it through google?

  • lol at the ringback tones

  • i can't get it in the UK :(

  • Google takes over our life

  • Ring back tones? I haven't seen that feature. They also downgraded I guess 'newer guests' trying out Google Voice to 10 cents rather than a dollar.

Any update on the office calls that didn't go through?

  • same for me on ringback and the money

  • I found out that the ringback was a feature for Grand Central and they took it out for Google Voice

Yup, I guess Google changed that

  • Dude your number is showing Lol

  • What kind of mic is that?

  • @darkwizzard a studio quality mic with a wind shield which i wish i had! ;)

  • Samson CO1U USB Condenser Microphone

  • @darkwizzard the gay one -.-

  • This is SO helpful - any way you could do an updated version? Thanks for all the help!

  • also, quick thing

Ringback tones are no longer featured on Google Voice.

  • they gave you a $1 credit? They gave me 10 cents. ._.

  • Did you make international calls? that could be the reason. Any local calling in U.S. is always free of charge.

  • No, I haven't

  • I got $1.00 credit. idk why they charged you. To find out, you have to go to the History link on the bottom of Calling Credit amount. There should be deductions that appear.

  • They didn't charge me. They just gave me 10 cents credit.

  • i know i just got in and only got 10 cents plus my friend who got in earlier got 25 free buisness cards

  • I have a Question about it. I would love to be able to have it can my cell and work. (That is what it is for) But my work number uses an extension to ring my office. Is there a way that Google Voice can call directly to my office using the extension, or what can be done to get around this problem?

  • @sheasimmons cant u simply add pauses to ur number. FOr example 1 555 555 5555 2 sec pause hard pause 82

  • will they charge u for this?

and another quick question. If u get ur text messages forwarded to ur GV, will u still be able to get them on ur phone or will they just go to ur GV?

  • No its free. Yes, you can set it up so it goes to your GV online and to your cellphone.

  • how can u do that?

  • Just go to settings, and under Forwards to there is an Edit button. Click that and check the box that says Receive SMS on this phone (make sure under Phone Type you choose Mobile).

  • Thanks

  • omg its randy from my name is earl....

  • There is a Google Voice App for the gPhone, and it works pretty good.

  • use a different file name for dnld

  • Hey what product do you use on your HAIR.

  • As of 9.5.09 IPhone does not support the Google Voice app. Unless you just jailbreak it (like you should have done long ago). All the more reason to have an Android phone. Android Market however offers a very well designed easy to use app. Of course since it's Google it has to be free. :-)

  • I put in for an invite on google voice and that was 8 days ago. How long does it take to get an invite?

will this work if i have a go phone

  • Yes it will work on Any phone that can call a regular phone # in your area code.

  • It takes like a month or two to get an Inv.. I got mine today...

  • you can buy an invite on ebay for like 9 bucks

  • Here is my Question. If i have att service with my cell phone. Ok so if I call someone on my cell phone and then route it through google voice. ok so will I use my minutes on my cell phone.

  • Yes it will use your minutes. Since you will have to call your Google Voice # then enter the # which you would like to speak to. You can also go online and click place a call enter the # and your phone will ring then it will connect you to the person u called so if you recieve free incoming calls then it wouldn't use your min if you did it that way.

  • "..if you receive free incoming calls..."

are there any US carriers that give you free incoming calls? I thought all the major mobile carriers knock off your minutes whether you call or receive.

  • @kp018boy

i beleive sprint has free incoming calls depending on the plan

  • from what i understand, with the GV app, when you place a call and you have a "my favs" plan and the GV number is on the "my favs" list then it's a free call. besides, when you place a call the GV number calls you , then connects to the number you wanna call through GV. so i think your covered.

  • Great video. I am currently just waiting for my invite. I just don't think all my friends are going to want to use a new number for me :(

  • Does anyone know when it'll be available in Canada?

  • Google does not recognize Canada as a nation, just as the rest of the free world doesn't, and therefore the service will not ever be available there. Sorry ai

  • GO GOOGLE!!

  • i got it but i end up losing my phone but its still cool

  • so calling is free within the US? what about sms? is that free as well? how much does it cost?

  • Yes, as long as its in the US, its completely free. GV also gives low rates on non-US numbers.

  • Free SMS & calls from and to US #'s, very low international rates.

  • took me about 2-3 days to get my invite. I absolutely LOVE it!!!

  • about 18 hours... but one of my friends had to wait 3 days

  • Hi Chris, Thanks for your video. Being new to GoogleVoice I am unsure of setting up voicemails and other things you mentioned in this video. Do you have another video of how to use GoogleVoice or someone who made one already? Thank you for your video. Sherri

  • just got my invite too bad im out of the state and cant use it :(

  • got my invite WHILE watching this video... nice

  • About privacy issues ... Most People dont know that most companies (including the phone companies) sell their call lists to telemarketers all the time, you just need to check to see if google does the same or if they keep that info private (how do you think you get on call lists anyways .... hmmmm)

  • Yay I just got my invite this morning. Googlevoice is amazing!

I requested an invite about a week ago. I would suggest tihs to any body

  • Hi,

How can i get an invite?

  • i only got 10 Cents

  • Just one question: How did you get a 19:12 min video?

  • he's a director/partner. :)

  • uhh Bill at comcast - classic

  • Very informative video. Thanks!

  • The only account privacy problem I might have is that someone could possible hack into my account. Google is a strong company and I don't think they would go snooping around people's phones.

I would like a invite for Google Voice TOO!

  • Hey Chris and everyone else i noticed that you mentioned at 10:54 that if you are out in the country.... well what you can do for that problem ( i dont know if you have found out yet or not) but you just call your google voice number from your cell phone and then hit "2" and then you dial the number you want to call. and it'll show up on their caller id as your google number not your cell phone number. So thats for people that dont have internet on their phone.

  • Where is the setting where you can change the custom dial tones, or call tones?

    "1-800-Chris is Awesome" lol

    Nice video.

  • is your mustache drawn on?

  • I got GV and I love the texting feature. However I wish when I call from my mobile or other numbers it would show up on the caller ID as my GV number. Needs very little improvement.

  • It's a pop filter, and with that mic, yes, he probably does. I would only suggest positioning the mic so it wasn't covering half the face.

  • Uh oh! You can see your phone number!!!!

  • LONG AND BORING 1/5

  • Good review, I just got GV and am lovin it.

  • do they send u a email??

  • where can you find your skype number to foward from Google Voice ( just got my invite today) yay

  • This is an INCREDIBLY helpful review of GV. I can't thank you enough for this. Really cool.

And he's a cute bear to boot!

  • transcribed voicemail to email is a feature, how 'bout SMS to email ?

  • I started out with 10 cents

  • Yea, I think they kicked that back just a bit, didn't they? From $1 to 10 cents? Weak, Google....weak.

  • We can't call anyone with 10 cents.

  • he must be hiding a cold sore with the wind deflector. Or it's a spoiler for his chin.

  • It's called a pop screen. It's used by professionals to protect an expensive microphone, and to improve the quality of the recorded voice.

  • It's called a pop guard it prevents a lot of problems with audio when you speak closely to the mic.

  • Great info! Thanks.

Just wanted to say, for your minute 11:00 discussion about calling somebody from one of your phones. You can call GV, press * enter your PIN, press 2, dial the 10 digit phone number & press #. Your GV number will show up on their caller ID.

On a bad note, I need help to figure out how to sync my contacts from my phone to my Google Mail. :(

  • looks good. are SMS free?

also i think skype has voicemail transcription but they charge for sending it to your cell then $ for the message.

  • i started with 10 cents lol. u got a whole dollar. O.o

  • 10¢ FTW!

  • Hi Chris,

Awesome video! Wow..you really helped me understand so much! My question is:

In your opinion, how could a non profit org use this to their benefit? I still don't understand if you still pay for cell minutes? Right now we operate with my personal cell phone....so any help, direction, or advice is truly appreciated!

Keep making videos...I am learning something new EVERY day watching you! :)

  • Hey, really great video!

Thank you so much, this really helped me out to understand it better.

I recently won a beta account in a contest at a site. ^^ So I'm waiting for Google to contact me and activate my account. But yeah, thanks again.

  • I know this may sound like I'm a complete novice but how do I turn off the temporary call forwarding? In the temporary menu is there a button I press to disable it?

  • I don't have a Google Voice account yet, but I'm wondering if you get your PIN number once you join and change it or you have to create one.

  • Great review,

While I was watching your video at the beginning where you mentioned that you can only call someone with your GV# if you have a computer/smart phone by using the website. I just wanted to tell you now you can call your GV# and there is an option to push 2 and then dial the number you wanted to call. The only drawback is you have to enter the number manually. The best part is, if you have either VZW from/TM's Fave5 you can call out and in for free without using any peak minutes.

  • Edit: VZW F & F

  • Thanks for a great review. Can't wait for this service to be released.

  • Interesting... found you from Craig Shipp's blog

I might need this... I work from home, my family uses the phone too... not very business like

    do you work for godaddy?

  • GoDaddy provides sponsorship for our shows, our company is Jupiter Broadcasting.

Sounds like Google Voice would be a great fit!

    -Chris

  • Too many problems being reported now, so I'm not converting from Grand Central until I'm forced to. Plus, GC can forward calls to Canada, GoogleVoices does not. Boo!

  • i love my google voice account, FREE SMS

  • Google Voice seems AWESOME! :D Btw nice review! :) I'm totaly going to try it when it changes to open beta!

    // Gustav

  • Hi Chris,

I'm happy to say that I am "the voice" of Google Voice (and previously Grand Central). I have been recording for them for years and I'm thrilled GV is finally launching to the mainstream. I wanted to thank you for doing such a fabulous job explaining the service. I learned even more about what GV can do from you (always good to know what I'm talking about;). Thank you for your support and I wish you continued success in your show.

    All the best,

    Laurie Burke

  • Wow Laurie, that's awesome! Thanks so much for leaving me a comment, glad you enjoyed the episode.

And may I say - Great work your self! :-)

    -Chris

  • Chris your mic quality is amazing! What full setup (mic, preamp, pop screen, post prod software etc) are you using? I'm on a mac fyi...

  • Check out my video I did on Podcasting Mics, it is in my channel and goes into it all.

    -Chris

  • great to hear google's bringing it back to life.. but I've still not been able to get in to GC :(

Anyone know someone or somewhere where I can get an invite? Or should I just wait for the public beta?

  • cool! but where are my Chicken wings!!! I'm hungry!.... wait....

  • Awesome video as always.

You should do a vid about your truck btw, Chris. :)

  • u left a phone number on the email in

    (425) 533-2217

  • That's a public number for The Linux Action Show

    -Chris

  • Thanks for the overview. I hadn't known about the existence of this service.

  • Cool - I was never a GrandCentral user, but am intrigued to see this service when it comes out invite only Google feature.
