Did you notice that he avoided upbow staccati in passages that required them (on the music) and then, when he had no choice but to play them, there were pretty sloppy. He did the same thing in his 24 capricci (search for them). On top of that, his chords are also a bit out of tune. I mean, he is much much better than I would ever be, but there is still room for improvement!
I agree, that's a good question, why does he not play the up bow staccato volante? I mean, it's the main characteristic of the Sul G passages and he skips it completely and instead plays detache at the tip of the bow. It's simply not the bowing or sound Tchaikovsky wanted or wrote in the piece. Better versions elsewhere...
It really can't get any more perfect than this - perfect intonation, beautiful dark tone, and a technique to die for. BTW I don't recall the last time I have heard those fingered octaves towards the end played perfectly in tune...(!)
I enjoyed it. Brutal accellerando in the end. Ha, ha, ha!!!, justified partly because of the style although some wouldn't agree. Oh well...you play very alive, like a wild animal, unpredictable, suprising. Bravo.
