Six of my seven greyhounds have been black. People are usually afraid of them if they don't know the breed because of their size and color. Even if I rescued another breed or a mix I would still choose the black. There is just something so regal about a black dog.
Black cats suffer an often worse fate due to the vestiges of medieval thought still prevalent in many people. My favorite cats in the world have been those black, tuxedo cats. They're always smart & personable & I think that they can read minds. My little black & white Bodhisattva just passed away at the age of 19 this past year. She will forever be at the top in my annals of best loved kitties.
All 4 of our adopted dogs and one cat are black. We knew people overlook personality in favor of light coloring in pets (and people) so we found some fantastic overlooked pets.
Our dog was rescued on the last day before she was going to be "put down" at the "shelter". We love her like a person. She's a black mix of something. Our last dog was black too and so is our cat becuz I always ask for the least likely to be adopted and they say black pets are because people treat living things like objects and "order" them by color like something in a catalog.
i had a black lab mix but he passed away.... when i went to get new dogs if there were black labs available i would rlly want to get them but seeing their faces would make me to sad because of my dog........ :(
I agree with Askew, all my dogs have/had black in them one way or another. Also Bella's eyes are really beautiful. Is she blind in the blue eye, or is it a pigment diformity?
I think it is more of a superstition that the dog may be aggressive or mean natured. Which isn't true a dog becomes cruel only by which the previous owner has taught it.
Black dogs are the best!!!! We have three. A dobie/lab mix, a black lab and a Golden Labrador who is all black. All three are shelter dogs and have been absolutely wonderful.
*SHARED..I love Black dogs..Good Job!!

Dark haired white kids in the adoption system get overlooked for blond kids too.

Why are black dogs less likely to be adopted? I prefer black, I didn't know that was unusual.
