  • Thanks for the post! I'm very familiar with the Glen Gray version of this tune (which is far better--especially the two part version cut around 1957 for Capitol, but what the hell), but have not heard this Krupa version. I totally agree with medmond6; to this day Gene has made some stellar contributions to music for which he gets very little recognition (ie, he helped begin the career of Gerry Mulligan, who started writing for him when he was 18).

  • Rudimentary touch, melodic phrasing, and love for the groove, that was Gene the King Krupa.

  • GK had a really HOT band in the 40's but it doesn't get the attention it deserves.

  • Gene.....what a drummer....what a gentleman....a soulful drummer to the Nth degree!

He and I talked when I was a kid. He paid attention to me. I can still see his face looking at me, listening to what I had to say. Me, a kid! I will keep Gene's legacy alive. that is a promise to me, to him and to all drummers. John-Hans Melcher "TheQuietDrummer"

  • @thequietdrummer Very cool story. I knew his grand daughter. Met her at the healthclub I worked at while in college. She told me her dad still has one of Gene's drum sets. other than that, she hadnt said much more. Didnt know him very well. She was quite young when Gene passed away.
