The Jeep wrangler is about 14mpg city 18mpg highway and you still have the option to put in a Shortram / snorkel or even swap the engine for a diesel and save a lot of gas. The HMMWV is like 4mpg city and 8mpg highway, with a diesel engine.

Well the jeep is lighter so its got the torque to weight ratio going for it. After that it just depends on the terrain and what kind of mods you have.
DURABILITY
Jeep. Parts are durable but inexpensive. Extremely easy to work on!
I have both, I have a 1987 Jeep Wrangler with an LT1 Corvette engine, and a 2005 Hummer H2. When it comes down to it, theyre pretty matched up. Obviously my jeeps been stuck less due to its lighter weight, but in the winter I prefer my Hummer, its heavier and more based on control rather than raw momentum. I love them both and I hate seing people say Hummers suck. They really don't AND it has better gas mileage than my F-350.
the h1 hummer does not have 300 hp and 500 ft/lbs of torque the h1a does which has the 6.6 duramax the original h1 hummer which is shown in this video has 215 hp and 420 ft/lbs of torque max they are usually 190 hp and 380 ft/lbs of torque which is a 6.5l non duramax engine

Offroad, jeeps tend to outperform hummers so saying that "the hummer isnt military" is pointless cuz the jeep isn't military either. Military and civilian (stock) hummer/jeeps are very different. Military jeeps dont have engine governors, are equiped with heavy duty transmissions, differentials, engines, transfer cases, YOU NAME IT! Civilian models are similar...but mechanically, very different! Hell the CJ2A had two sticks, was tiny, and resembled a tractor, no comparison!
Hummer's were made by AMC, which was bought by Chrysler. Granted GM ended up owning the majority of Hummer, but they're still AMC products. Jeep and Hummer are pretty much the same thing...This video is irrelevant.

First off, the H1 has far more horsepower and torque than a jeep. I believe approx 300hp at 500 ft/lbs of torque at a low rpm range (stock) , but sucks off road compared to a jeep because its too heavy. Second, every jeep you see outperform a hummer offroad is a civilian jeep, usually second hand. So arguing that the hummer is not military is pointless, because the jeep isnt either. Jeeps are lighter, more durable, reliable, and completly customizable.
Saying that the Jeep isn't military is sheer stupidity. "Jeep" was changed from "GP" which stood for General Purpose. The Jeep wrangler hasn't changed much since the days of the old Willys CJ2A. The Jeep was designed for Military use. Learn your history Son.

They are amazing cars, both H2s and H3s, their interiors are beautiful, they look awesome, and they're truly American. H3s aren't that expensive at all used, but H2s and damn the H1s haha. Hummers are shit, driven by rich blonde daddy's girls. Jeeps can take any hummer off road stock, they are short, light and have lots of torque, hummers are long heavy and therefore harder to drive off road.
I own both a jeep and a H2. My experience has been that the hummer does perform better in off-road terrain. The wheels all spin together as if every tire has a motor on it. In my jeep, the lifted fire gets the power. If you think i'm kidding, call my bluff. get them on a slippery terrain and you tell me which one has more control. Better yet, which would you rather be in in a head-on collision? I'll take H2. Hummer's drawback is its size. Unless you own both, you can't make a comparison!

@ScorpioRay83 What kind of Jeep? Sure, a Compass would get its ass kicked by an H2, but in most situations a Wrangler will win. The H2 is hampered by weight, IFS, poor visibility and weak suspension components.
As for the head on collission, the Hummer is hampered by its own weight. Inertias a bitch. It's why small cars always fair well in crash tests.
But of course you are going to be biased towards the H2. For all you spent on it, you better like it more.
@jstutz2003 It's a Rubicon. I'm not downing Jeep because I love mine. They both have their draw backs. Hummer is extremely heavy, but it has the power to pull itself where it needs to go. Jeep is lightweight and smaller which makes it manuverable. I've done some modifications to my jeep like lifting it, bigger tires etc. It moves great, but it doesn't give control like the hummer. I guess I like a more stable feel. In the snow, the hummer has the weight to move and the jeep doesn't.

@Dantesdoom All vehicles brake off road, refer to the tie rod breaking H2 near the beginning of the video. That's why they make upgrades. The jeep vs hummer is pointless, each has it's own advantages and disadvantages, hummer was built for off road, jeep was built to be road friendly with some trail ability. Though, for the cost of an H1 you could build a much more capable jeep. Not mention size and weight, though jeeps aren't the most reliable they are a much better bang for your buck.

@Dantesdoom In all honesty, i don't think i have ever seen an early 90s Nissan pickup lol. Well, i live on the east coast of Canada right on the Bay of Fundy, salt water, not to mention they use salt on the roads in the winter. Rust is a major issue here with vehicles, having a rust free vehicle is virtually impossible here, undercoating is almost necessary. And it seems to be a lot of those Toyotas rot worst than anything else on the road, i've seen them before with virtually no bed sides.
@norcobigfootrider Thats why....the nissan pickups were solid, but severly rust prone. Not a good idea where you live. I live in the southeast US, but not directly on the coast. I hardly ever see snow or salted roads so that plays a major factor. I didnt realize salt would be THAT bad on a vehicle. They are rusted out to the point the beds are gone!? Cars can sit outside here for 40 years and have little to no rust on them.
@Dantesdoom Well, a good example would be, my Grand Cherokee (doesn't sit for more than a day or two at a time), last fall the paint had peeled off the corner of the hatch and it had rusted enough over the winter that the corner of the hatch is gone about 3" up and 3.5" from the side. Not the WHOLE bed gone, mainly just the bed sides. Like, a friend of mine has to redo the cab corners on his S10 nearly ever year for inspection.
@norcobigfootrider You have to upkeep that for inspections? Where i live most states keep up with that, but my state hasnt since the early 90's. I have never had an inspection done. That's intense man, how old is the cherokee? Ill give you an example of our weather. I have a 1991 300zx that the battery leaked on before i got it. The engine bay under it lost the paint and got some surface rust. In the four years i have owned it, it has not progressed, even with high and sometimes 100% humidity.
@Dantesdoom Mine's a 98, we have yearly safety inspections, will fail for bad brakes, suspension parts, steering parts, rust holes, etc. Inspection on mine is next month, i need to redo the rocker panels, though i may just replace with 2x4 square tubing so it's kind of like a rock slider, and will probably never rot out again lol, fix my hatch, the unibody frame has 3 spots that need to be repaired, already fixed the 2 worst spots this year... glad i can weld lol.
@wutangugod I agree that there is a difference between the H2 and the humvee. H2s are wanna be off road POS. BUT to say that a humvee is 10 times better than a jeep is just dumb. The Jeeps can easily out maneuver the humvee any day. The jeeps solid axles are also an advantage for certain situations. A Jeep rubicon will keep up and outperform a humvee for many situations.
Of coarse a custom jeep will outmatch a hummer. They are lighter. Its physics. But if you wanted to customize an H1 then there would be nothing it couldn't do. They are built better with better parts. That is a known fact.

I went from a 96 ex police cruiser (junk) to an 06 H3 Adventure package, so I am someone who doesn't get the whole jeep vs. Hummer thing, I think it should be friendly competition and not aggressive. From my view, they are both exceptional off roaders for their cost. Ive been everywhere in my H3 and love the 4X4 World now. A relative of mine has an "X" wrangler and it does well also. So I'm just into anything that runs well I suppose you could say. Long live 4X4s!

No AM GENERAl designed the H1, and just sold it as a civilian Vehicle. Am General is not owned by GM, and GM designed the H2 from a Tahoe chassis. it isn't a 1 Ton rear axel, it is a half-ton.

iam a gm tech HAVE BEEN FOR 7 YEARS look it up am general had a hand in building the h2-/ the h3 is based off of the envoy frame and the h3 is built only by gm and yes am general did build the h1-h2 GOOD FOR U until you own one or seen one you should not say nothing.the frame on the h2 is boxed and taken from the 3500 series dually and 2500hd it has a 14 bolt locking rear a steel front floating axle not aluminum AND IT8LUG u own a festiva lol
@SecularTechnology the h2 is far, far more rigid and substantial than the frame on a 2500 series HD GM pickup. I have a 2500HD, and I have an H2. The rails on the 2500HD are "C-channel", on the H2 they are bigger and fully boxed, and more. If you take the front skid, bumper, etc. off your truck you'll see some of the heaviest front-end-reinforcement of any frame on any vehicle.
A lot of pickups are funny boxed. Even the half-tons (1500) from Ford and Dodge. And I looked under and H2 at the auto show, it wasn't that beefy. And The metal front is the same as the Silverado I saw.

Most of the Mexican guys who have worked for me have more expensive cars than I do but they are also willing to tolerate a standard of living that i won't.I like my big house with each of my kids having their own bedroom/tv/computer/etc,I like full coverage health insurance,eating well and I didn't mind paying off my student loans so that I get to be the boss while they work themselves to death in dirty,uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous jobs.You could learn a lot from some of those people

Hummer's were made by AMC, which was bought by Chrysler. Granted GM ended up owning the majority of Hummer, but they're still AMC products. Jeep and Hummer are pretty much the same thing...This video is irrelevant.

First off, the H1 has far more horsepower and torque than a jeep. I believe approx 300hp at 500 ft/lbs of torque at a low rpm range (stock) , but sucks off road compared to a jeep because its too heavy. Second, every jeep you see outperform a hummer offroad is a civilian jeep, usually second hand. So arguing that the hummer is not military is pointless, because the jeep isnt either. Jeeps are lighter, more durable, reliable, and completly customizable.

Civilian hummers are not meant for this kind of offroading!! THATS WHY THEY'RE CALLED CIVILIAN HUMMERS. They are amazing cars, both H2s and H3s, their interiors are beautiful, they look awesome, and they're truly American. H3s aren't that expensive at all used, but H2s and damn the H1s haha. I own both a jeep and a H2. My experience has been that the hummer does perform better in off-road terrain. The wheels all spin together as if every tire has a motor on it. In my jeep, the lifted fire gets the power. If you think i'm kidding, call my bluff. get them on a slippery terrain and you tell me which one has more control. Better yet, which would you rather be in in a head-on collision? I'll take H2. Hummer's drawback is its size. Unless you own both, you can't make a comparison!

@ScorpioRay83 What kind of Jeep? Sure, a Compass would get its ass kicked by an H2, but in most situations a Wrangler will win. The H2 is hampered by weight, IFS, poor visibility and weak suspension components.
As for the head on collission, the Hummer is hampered by its own weight. Inertias a bitch. It's why small cars always fair well in crash tests.
But of course you are going to be biased towards the H2. For all you spent on it, you better like it more.

@jstutz2003 It's a Rubicon. I'm not downing Jeep because I love mine. They both have their draw backs. Hummer is extremely heavy, but it has the power to pull itself where it needs to go. Jeep is lightweight and smaller which makes it manuverable. I've done some modifications to my jeep like lifting it, bigger tires etc. It moves great, but it doesn't give control like the hummer. I guess I like a more stable feel. In the snow, the hummer has the weight to move and the jeep doesn't.

@Dantesdoom All vehicles brake off road, refer to the tie rod breaking H2 near the beginning of the video. That's why they make upgrades. The jeep vs hummer is pointless, each has it's own advantages and disadvantages, hummer was built for off road, jeep was built to be road friendly with some trail ability. Though, for the cost of an H1 you could build a much more capable jeep. Not mention size and weight, though jeeps aren't the most reliable they are a much better bang for your buck.

Well, i live on the east coast of Canada right on the Bay of Fundy, salt water, not to mention they use salt on the roads in the winter. Rust is a major issue here with vehicles, having a rust free vehicle is virtually impossible here, undercoating is almost necessary. And it seems to be a lot of those Toyotas rot worst than anything else on the road, i've seen them before with virtually no bed sides.

I hardly ever see snow or salted roads so that plays a major factor. I didnt realize salt would be THAT bad on a vehicle. They are rusted out to the point the beds are gone!? Cars can sit outside here for 40 years and have little to no rust on them.

@Dantesdoom Well, a good example would be, my Grand Cherokee (doesn't sit for more than a day or two at a time), last fall the paint had peeled off the corner of the hatch and it had rusted enough over the winter that the corner of the hatch is gone about 3" up and 3.5" from the side. Not the WHOLE bed gone, mainly just the bed sides. Like, a friend of mine has to redo the cab corners on his S10 nearly ever year for inspection.

That's intense man, how old is the cherokee? Ill give you an example of our weather. I have a 1991 300zx that the battery leaked on before i got it. The engine bay under it lost the paint and got some surface rust. In the four years i have owned it, it has not progressed, even with high and sometimes 100% humidity.

@Dantesdoom Mine's a 98, we have yearly safety inspections, will fail for bad brakes, suspension parts, steering parts, rust holes, etc. Inspection on mine is next month, i need to redo the rocker panels, though i may just replace with 2x4 square tubing so it's kind of like a rock slider, and will probably never rot out again lol, fix my hatch, the unibody frame has 3 spots that need to be repaired, already fixed the 2 worst spots this year... glad i can weld lol.

The Jeeps can easily out maneuver the humvee any day. The jeeps solid axles are also an advantage for certain situations. A Jeep rubicon will keep up and outperform a humvee for many situations.

I went from a 96 ex police cruiser (junk) to an 06 H3 Adventure package, so I am someone who doesn't get the whole jeep vs. Hummer thing, I think it should be friendly competition and not aggressive. From my view, they are both exceptional off roaders for their cost. Ive been everywhere in my H3 and love the 4X4 World now. A relative of mine has an "X" wrangler and it does well also. So I'm just into anything that runs well I suppose you could say. Long live 4X4s!

No AM GENERAl designed the H1, and just sold it as a civilian Vehicle. Am General is not owned by GM, and GM designed the H2 from a Tahoe chassis. it isn't a 1 Ton rear axel, it is a half-ton.
H2 can't off road vs shit, and I work for a company that builds a truck A lot bigger than an H2.

iam a gm tech HAVE BEEN FOR 7 YEARS look it up am general had a hand in building the h2-/ the h3 is based off of the envoy frame and the h3 is built only by gm and yes am general did build the h1-h2 GOOD FOR U until you own one or seen one you should not say nothing.the frame on the h2 is boxed and taken from the 3500 series dually and 2500hd it has a 14 bolt locking rear a steel front floating axle not aluminum AND IT8LUG u own a festiva lol

@SecularTechnology the h2 is far, far more rigid and substantial than the frame on a 2500 series HD GM pickup. I have a 2500HD, and I have an H2. The rails on the 2500HD are "C-channel", on the H2 they are bigger and fully boxed, and more. If you take the front skid, bumper, etc. off your truck you'll see some of the heaviest front-end-reinforcement of any frame on any vehicle.

YO siempre digo que todo para su lugar, digo una Humer tiene mas masa, para poder tener fuerza, pero no siver nada si no tiene la potencia, el Jeep es muy bueno pero no tiene la masa, aunque si la potencia, el detalle es que para el tipo de uso que se nota en el video la fuerza es indispensable, lo que no me agrada, es que gente que tiene Hummer o Jeep, los cuale no les dan ese uso, bueno cada quien gasten su dinero si lo tienen, es valido. ehm... i love jeep... but hummer aswell. i have both, a modified wrangler and a hummer h1 alpha. believe me the alpha is really better than the jeep. unstoppable!

I have quite a bit of exp in hmmwvs'. I like em for what they are. You however can not beat a jeep in the tight places. I wouldn't say better, just different. A totally different animal.

How is it all of the hummers used off road are owned by Hispanics? They have money to waste? I would rather dump that money into 2 jeeps (That way I wont have to listen to the old lady bitch when I am articulating and flexing) Oh yeah ...and she can sit on her own hood

Most of the Mexican guys who have worked for me have more expensive cars than I do but they are also willing to tolerate a standard of living that i won't.I like my big house with each of my kids having their own bedroom/tv/computer/etc,I like full coverage health insurance,eating well and I didn't mind paying off my student loans so that I get to be the boss while they work themselves to death in dirty,uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous jobs.You could learn a lot from some of those people
