ooh .Gerunds and infinitives.ANyway.Hassid is so special.Strange that i haven't read about him before. His articulationbowing is really different.Charm here! Didn't he record any concerti .Just a single movement .This sentimenatal stuff brings tears to my eyes.Jewish boys do it like no one elsebutHeifetz doesn't make me cry.Kreisler I smile Elman I pray.Rabin makes me smirk but Hassid.I'm in love .I wonder how many grt instrumentalists dies in da camps.what an era!

I dont understand why everyone's treating this man as a God because of this recording. Yes, it's incredible, but all recording violinists are incredible. This doesn't stand out to me like Rabin's and Gitlis's renditions.
For me Hassid captures the atmosphere and spirit of the piece like no other; and, believe me, not all recording violinits are "incredibe,' although I will say that there is an overall standard of excellence in violinists unmatched by any other instrumentalists.
just cherish it. this is the only recording session of this little guy that i know of. such a sweet, tender sound. this recording stands alone in the evocation of that special lighthearted sense this piece contains. it's divine
1) J.H. was 16 when he recorded this, on one take 2) His tone is very personal, one can tell him apart from anyone else (if one has the set of ears to discern this sort of thing, of course) 3) Phrasing is as virtuosic as the technique=La Capricieuse answers to its name (rubato is fantastic) 4) Handling of all virtuosic elements comes from music 5) Not all recording vlnsts are incredible 6) Gitlis plays it as a study of tight-arm staccato
I am really not one to speak, but I think these days violinists are far more conservative with the use of rubato and glissando, and straying from the score is more looked down upon.
Ma prof de violon avait connu Josef Hassid, qui disait elle, était un peu "Dérangéé mais il pouvait jouer du stacatto à la même place d archet pendant des heures...
Every time I hear this, it blows my mind. Hassid plays this like it's a sweet little walk in the park. Light, gentle, easy--but it's NOT. Unbelievable control of his upbow staccato.
it starts out of tune, and then stays mostly relatively in tune. I wonder why? Because he is obviously a great violinist. Maybe he tuned to the piano or maybe the recording....
You're right... the first note is a little flat. But back then they didn't have editing techniques like they do today. They probably ran through it 2 or 3 times and they take the best... these days every note is edited by the recording engineer
I m sorry, I dont really understand the word 'offering'. Not all pictures in my videos are taken by us, just some of them. Many pictures I downloaded from the Internet and I think people who posted their pictures on the Internet dont mind if we use their pictures, because we don't sell pictures. :)
@KyotoMelody "Offering" is the gerund of the infinitive "to offer". Synonyms include "to give" and "to donate". Antonyms include "to receive" or "to deny".
By the way, thank you sooooo much for introducing me to Josef Hassid. I'm incredibly grateful.
this is my violin idol :) I am so sad that I can not hear him live or that there are very few things that he recorded but they are unbeatable :) thanks for posting he makes me cry ;( :)
I listened to this, extending great thanks to KyotoMelody for posting this in addition to all his other superb postings - played by Josef Hassid.Thank you both for enriching my life.
Josef Hassid and Michael Rabin are both REMARKABLE violinists !

This is the older recording of this piece. One year later he recorded again and much better! :)

Kreisler put it very correctly. He said, " A Heifetz is born once in a hundred years. A Hassid once in two hundred".

Magical. A unequalled spiccato for the ages!
How much fun he seems to have had and, of course, so do we.

After listening to this piece, I think Hassid was probably one of the best violinists ever.

This is unbelievably amazing and I ask why today's violinists cannot make the instrument sing like that

Its Violin Intonation, he manages very well, on an emotional level... not a matter of Pythagorean or just intonation
