Polar Bears give off organic material that feeds the ecosystem up there. Industries like fishing and hunting are supported by this, and the ice is kept together by them hunting certain types of seals that dig through the ice, by keeping that seals population down they keep the ice intact.
They have been listed as "threatened" since this broadcast. Thank goodness. They still have not been listed as threatened in Canada however, where the majority of polar bears live. If you'd like to see Canada list them as threatened as well, please contact Nature Canada.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service estimates that the polar bear population is currently at 20,000 to 25,000 bears, up from as low as 5,000-10,000 bears in the 1950s and 1960s. A 2002 U.S. Geological Survey of wildlife in the Arctic Refuge Coastal Plain noted that the polar bear populations may now be near historic highs.
who cares? Polar Bears are dumb, they don't do anything for anybody, they're a tax on society. We need Oil, not some useless animal.

It's shocking to me how many people "don't believe" in climate change. Can they not see it with their own two eyes?
They claim that climate change is the natural order of things and claim that conservation efforts are a "money grab".
It's upsetting, but as long as enough of us care enough to try to change the way we think and live, I hope our efforts will prevail.
