saw them live twice best acapella I have ever heard--in fact (it was a small club) I asked if they would sing it!! Took a lot out of them --it was late in he set they couldn't do it!!
Hahahah totally had a moment were my instinct worked before my brain, I looked at the title and thought "what the hell, what does that say PaPa oooh? and before I could finish the thought I just started singing it without thought. I don't think im explaining this right but i hope you guys get what I mean. If anyone cares ahah
@Aenwyrm Yep, that is why I am here too. They been running ET again on cable (perhaps because it is around Halloween). At any rate, Elliot went to the cornfield later on. This was the part when he was going to the tool shed carrying the pizza and you can hear the song playing as he passes by the kitchen. One thing I never paid attention if the song was acapella. I thought I could hear a drum beat behind it. Well that gives me another reason to watch the movie again and listen closely!!
@jukingeo you're not the only one.i thought it wasnt acapella either,in the movie it actually does sound different in a way BUT it really is his version.yet this is a nice song..another thing,i confess that as a kid,the song kinda makes the scene a bit more scary when elliot is walkin in the dark lol.gives you the chills doesnt it?
@BeliOV7 I DID watch ET again last night and it DOES seem like there is a drum track in the background, but the sound is very thin coming from the small kitchen radio used in the movie. So I did an experiment this morning playing THIS YT version through the small speakers on my headphones and laid them on my desk with the speakers out. Guess what? It sounds EXACTLY like the movie.
@jukingeo yes thats the interesting part, sound changes i dont know how but it does.i can be listening to a song in the laptop with my headphones on BUT if i listen to it without the headphones, the song sounds a bit high pitched.weird.anyway,it's hard to explain the scene.the song has a jammin message and it doesnt have anything to do with mystery, frightening or anything that can be related and it STILL fits the outdoor scene, especially the distortedeffect which thats why i say it sounds chillin
@BeliOV7 Yeah, it was just kind of an experiment. I really thought the song had a drum track in the movie (and bass line). But when you listen to the song on a good system it's obviously acapella. Now the sound is full with my computer's headphones on my head, but if I take them off and lay them on my desk with the speakers facing me, the sound is EXACTLY like that from the movie. I get a kick out of how one of the boys says, no the song isn't for me, it is for his mom. LOL!
As for the scene...yes, it is a particularly spooky scene, with it being very dark and slightly foggy in the backyard. There is just the one bright light in the tool shed. I think having the song playing in the background actually 'warms up' the scene a bit. If Spielberg used an ominous sounding track here, I think it would have been TOO scary.
I think it would be cool to do an ET theme for Halloween one year. Sure I will be playing this song in the background! LOL
@jukingeo i would too! who wouldnt? :) the two issues are that im away from home for a while and two : if i was home,i live in a crappy neighborhood where NOBODY would pay attention to my theme
It's not just their perfect harmony. They actually make you forget about pianos, guitars, trumpets, violins, drums, whole nine. All the sounds are embedded in their harmony. Their voices are so rhythmic - truly are instruments - a veritable symphony.
anything.......the persuasions can make it theirs and change your mind about which one you like the best. the boyz are serious. just underate. we need to bring them to main stream america. They gotta love em. i bet my last on it.
I am sooo glad "you did what you had to do"! I wore down this song, & quite a few others on my album years back-it just amazed me that all that great sound was done with vocals & no other musical instruments needed.
prittiest sound i ever heard ever heard yet i cant understand a single word!!!! HAAAAA that is about the best line ever--cuz most Rock ya cant understand ,without liner notes!!!
