Hold just under half-throttle, dab and hold the back brake, and ride. The gyroscopic effect of the motor turning will add stability to the bike, and the brake will stop the bike taking off.

@wolfe1970 slow riding does wear the clutch wet or dry, if you succeed at doing this all day you'll likely overheat your engine and burn alot of life if not all the life out of the clutch. This is definitely not something to do for prolonged periods of time but for practice or competition the wear on the clutch is excused.

It's for being able to drive forward slowly without having to put your feet down. This is supposed to be practise for real traffic situations, not this horseshit.

@KoivuTheHab Well I'm sorry but the longest distance between two points isn't a straight line and longer time is better right? Also if you rode anything on two wheels you'd know you can't just stop a bike and keep your feet up without all their how you say "horseshit"

And correction the competition is to see who takes the longest time not who moves forward the slowest. If a rider could stop for 30 seconds without putting a foot down he'd be the one to beat regardless of his balancing horseshit.

@killer2600 It is supposed to be a straight line, and it should be a competition on who moves forward slowest, that's the point. That's how it's done in a real traffic situation, you aren't supposed to wiggle around like a fucking snake. I drive plenty of bikes and I can tell you that I can infact stop my bike and continue driving without putting down my feet, it isn't difficult, it's called balance. Either you don't know how to ride or you live on Mars and you've never even seen a motorbike.

You can stop and go without putting your foot down, good for you. Bet you can't stop for 30 seconds doing that.

@killer2600 Sure there is a setback, that's not how you drive. You control the situation with your hands, fingers and breaks. There is no need to put your foot down. It's a basic skill being able to keep your balance on a motorbike. You can't have a smooth ride constantly putting down your feet. I can stop and keep my feet up for 30 seconds with my Trial bike, not my other ones.

How is it possible that you ride really well yet you know nothing about the subject? I'm not buying it, sorry.

Your mission if you chose to accept it is to do the course slower than they can on a 500+ pound equipped touring bike WITHOUT all the "horseshit" zig-zags and momentary stops - just a nice straight slow go that beats their times. Honest I know better and wouldn't bother trying but your the grand riding master.

Besides I never said I was the 'King' of slow riding, I simply said the competition course is a joke, because you aren't supposed to complete the course wiggling around like a snake. I think your misconception is the idea that this would be a real world exercise. There is no situation where you would do slow straight line riding as slow as possible as if you're waiting for traffic to move, but not knowing when it'll move or even if it will move, before you reach the back bumper of the car in front.

@killer2600 Happens every day when I go out for a ride... It's easy to anticipate when the light are going to change, it's part of understanding traffic. When you know the lights have just turned red you 'pull up' normally and put your feet down. Also in many countries it's part of a test before you get a license, you have to be able to control your bike. Shows just how little you know...

You don't pull up for a red light unless you were riding too slow to make the green - which is why, I'm guessing, it happens everyday for you. You are not supposed to drive or ride slower than a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk, if you are then something is very wrong.

@Goldbeed12 This event was at the Harley dealership in Lindon, the big one just off the freeway. There are Motorcycle Safety Courses taught in that same parking lot, but it isn't the police that teaches them. I took the advanced riders course there and really enjoyed it.

Yes being on a lighter bike would make it much easier. imagine being on a 600-700 pound bike, then trying it on say.... a mountain bike.  Weight would make a big difference.

I would of thought they would of been even slower if had the back brake dragging all the way instead of on and off it would of kept the bike more stable also.

Some of them did better than these guys. I just didn't film very much of it. One guy on a BMW totally stopped for about 5 seconds then kept inching his way forward. When he finally crossed the finish line smoke was bellowing from his bike. By by clutch! The crowd was going bonkers.
