Also, the reason for the delay is that there were preliminary hearings which were deferred because of his mental state. Australia abolished capital punishment around 45 years ago. I am not in favour of capital punishment, and frankly you won't find many Australians who are.

@Puterdad Again, Australia doesn't have capital punishment, which I stated around a month ago on this forum. Also, the reason for the delay is that there were preliminary hearings which were deferred because of his mental state. He spent several months in a catatonic state and therefore was not in a condition to be tried.

@vgb42222 The father is actually under intense psychological care, what he experienced was a severe psychotic episode for which he is currently being treated while being incarceration. Australia abolished capital punishment around 45 years ago. I am not in favour of capital punishment, and frankly you won't find many Australians who are.

Witnesses state the child did not scream, nor did the ones in the car. Stop making assumptions of what you think you know.

@vgb42222 I gather your knowledge of psychotic episodes doesn't extend very far, or the effects they have on the human brain. He was unaware of what he had done, and for about an hour or so was operating purely in a trance like state. It was not until he had reached the CBD that he'd "come round" as such, realised one of the kids was missing, and the son told him what happened. He was found wandering in an extremely distressed state, and has been on suicide watch since.

@vgb42222 Even in America there is a provision in the law called the "Fifth Amendment" - people are not sentenced to death if found to have committed a crime under that amendment. This is no different. To sentence him to death for an act committed while under psychotic episode would be reprehensible on many levels - his wife and family, work colleagues, community members, etc all state this act was extremely out of character, and since then he has been catatonic. But you wouldn't know that.

But a case like this is NEVER as black and white as you are suggesting. Even to the point where when the sentence was delivered, seven of the nine jury members signed a petition to change to life in prison stating they would not have found him guilty if they'd known a death sentence was likely. It's a lot of pain. I know my parents well, and they would never do this to me. So, why on earth would any parent do this I mean, what is his problem? Nothing like this should ever happen.
