Isn't it the same screen in a different casing? There's just a couple of e-ink versions and their major difference is the screen dimension.. Contrast and page-loading is fully determined by the hardware and software of the device itself.. refresh rate is also bottle-necked by the screen, not the device itself
To me the 505 has a clearly better contrast! The background is a little bit lighter and the color a little bit darker. The difference is not huge, though.
Im getting one tomorrow and was just looking around. I know there are cons to this, but there's nothing that makes me not want to get it.
Relatively early adopter. Pay a good amount. Ill enjoy it. I could waste my money on something else. I will enjoy this and you can't put a price on enjoyment, so whatever.
ya i just got 505 this past weekend. absolutely love it... i just heard the 700 will be released soon and its touch screen. im not sure how great an idea touch screen will be...?... extended warranty is definitely needed for that one i think.
I'm not so bothered by the refresh rate. I'd rather want clearer and crisper image over faster refresh rate. The closer it can look and feel like a book, the better. The image looks better on the 505
I've played with the Reader a bit in my store, and I've developed quite a fondness for it. The button layout is pretty nice, and I'm in love with the screen. The E-ink display mimics printed paper almost perfectly.
I want one, but the price is much too steep for me. $300 for the reader and then $6 to purchase a book... Even with the wealth of pirated and free e-published titles available, the entry price is pretty scandalous. Half it and I expect Sony will see many more adopters.
you missed it, when the 505 came out, sony was selling the remaining 500s at $70, it's still expensive for some people, but I think it was worth it...funny thing is I have not read a single novel since highschool (10 years) after I got this thing, I'm always on a book
If you already have ebooks on your pc (or pdfs or whatever) you can you just throw them onto your reader? or do you have to buy (from sony or whatever) everytime?
Go to project gutenburg 20,000+ totally free books, all out of copyright. A lot of them now in e-pub format. If you have already downloaded them just drag and drop onto the Sony .

Is it just me or is the 500 a bit quicker once the book has loaded? The 505 is quicker to load the book (from RAM or card?).
Also looks like the 500 screen is a bit 'whiter'.

Why don't they release the prs 770 in the UK. I wont buy a 505 when I know the 700 touch screen is out there.
Come on Sony get your finger out...

Thanks for the video!
505 is brighter white.
Anyone interested in the 505 might want to wait for another month, until the Sony PRS-700 will be released.
Best to wait and see the performance/battery-life differences, and then decide.

PRS 505 works better with PDF, while 500 opens PDF very slow. I own PRS 500 and I am happy by now. Plan to buy PRS 505.

There isn't much difference, but the button layout and the design make me long for the new one.
