  • thanks for making it clean.

  • Fucked. Is. Superior. Magnificent. Descriptive. Emotional. Intense. Fitting. Tear-jerking. Scathing. Bold. Genuine. Amazing. Glorious. Worthy. Undeniable.... Beautiful. It isn't enough to say I messed up.

  • @coleynimdh yeah :D and we don't have to say bad words

  • @CorgilnASweatshirt you don't have to swear to get your point across. I do see your point, though.

  • one of my all time fav songs thx for beepin out the beeps:P btw the pic in the background is stupid.

  • Hey, does anyone besides me realize that there's more to this song than the lack of the f-bomb. How about we get back to talking about how great the band and song is? Does that work for everyone?

  • Man, the clean version really fucks with the emotion in the song.

  • I say MESSED it up

  • @iheartthirteen i say mucked fits the gap perfectly :)

  • FUCK U GUYZ WHO THINK THE CLEAN VERSION IS BETTER

  • @117haloo Well if you don't like the clean version, Why are you here? :)

  • i say mucked... or ___d it up...

  • i prefer the clean version not because I can't stand people swearing, but because i honestly believe that it sounds better just letting it sorta pause there not actually saying it while people still get the point of what they are saying... now i just couldn't stand it if i heard them say "messed up" or "screwed up" yeah give me "f***** it up this time" then. It's kinda like puddle of mud's song she f***** hates me... i think it sounds better just taking the word out all together :)

  • is this the version they play on the radio? this sounds live or accustic?

  • so if I were to play this song at a school talent show, what would be an appropriate substitute for "fucked"? I'm thinking possible "mucked" since it rhymes and kinda means the same thing... any other suggestions?

  • @classicrockboy93 I think it would sound a lot better with 'messed up' or 'screwed up' instead. I guess they had their reasons for using the f word, but you know it's not always the words they sing, it's the way they sing it... So yeah... haha. Or at least that's what I think.

  • @classicrockboy93 messed it up

  • @classicrockboy93 use "messed" it works perfectly(:

  • I'm a really good person, I never EVER cuss. Ever. I HATE HATE HATE swearing. I absolutely despise people who cuss every other word in thier sentence. But.....I must admit, though I really hate the f bomb, I get what those two top comments mean ^^^^. It really isn't the same without that word. They're describing how pissed off at themselves they feel. It's so gripping, because everyone's felt that way before! While I hate that word with a passion, I get why they use it in this song.

  • @1darlin1angel1

Often those who think they are good are farther from good than those who don't even know what it means to be good. I know I'm not good, no one is, but I'm Ok with that because He who is in me is Greater.

  • @TheOriginalCliches Okay....but I really am a good person :) haha in all honesty, I am. And yes everyone is a good person! A "bad person" doesn't really exsist. But bad choices do :)

  • screwed it up, blew it up, cracked it up, messed it up...swearing is just lack of imagination, or lazy songwriting. The rest of the song is awesome!

  • or hear with out the f word

  • you know I don't get why the two top comments are about how the "swearing" adds intensity to th e song. If it adds so much intense why are you here then watching the clean version when you could be experiencing your so called intensity. I came here because I don't like swearing and I don't promote cussing so to add meaning either. I just came to watch this song with out the F word alright.

  • This song is amazing. When I feel down I listen to this song over and over. People who say this song is bad, can go shut up.

  • This song is amazing. When I feel down, I listen to thins song over and over. And maybe it is a little bit country, but the people who post mean comments about this song can shut up.

  • wow those eleven people who disliked this video don't have much a appreciation for AWESOME music.

  • I THINK IT SHOULD BE CHANGED TO MUCKED INSTEAD OF F####D BECAUSE IT STILL FITS IN.

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS-LOCK ITS JUST MY CAPS-LOCK KEY BROKE WHEN CAPS LOCK WAS ON AND NOW Y SHIFT KEYS BROKEN.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • @dudey212 I LIKE YOUR IDEA I AGREE THAT WOULD FIT

  • I wish they would change it to "I really mucked it up this time" it still works!

  • @Poseyxx I wish Van Gough didn't cut off his ear. That was a little too extreme for my comfort level...

  • All I want is to hear a choir of about 30-40 men all in the ranges of Bass, Baritone, Tenor 2 and Tenor 1, all to sing the A capella part of this song at the end, all in glorious harmony. With all the sadness and self-anger that this song warrants.

  • I like both versions of this song. Quite frankly, sometimes there are certain people I am around or I am in certain places where I don't want to have the F word sung every 20 seconds, so I am thankful for this edited version, but I also love the original version.

  • yeah but this i can listen to in front of my kids

  • What a shame, this song would appeal to a lot more people if that one word was not there. I love the sound and this band but am ashamed to send it to people because of ONE word.

  • the lyrics are "and waste it" not "wasted"

  • you guys...stop crying it is just a word!!! if u keep crying go somewhere else...babies :]

  • Well, I see that a lot of people don't agree with my opinion, and thats fine... we all have the right to have different opinions. I know at least 55 people agree with me (That's how many people liked my comment) and Im glad, im also glad that everybody has their own opinion,. Everyone has their own opinions, and thats great, but just because you don't agree with some one else's, you DON'T have to be rude about it... and I am very much not appreciating the RUDE comments coming towards me BACK OFF

  • @BFOX513 You gave your opinion, I gave mine. We're on even grounds, people don't need to argue and fuss over it. Just give the children time to mature. Merry Christmas!

  • I agree the Coarse Language (cuz its not actually "swearing") takes away from the song rather than adds to it, and anyone who understands its meaning and has a conscience, should disagree to it. But I also agree "screwed" or "messed" doesn't work, I would even go as far to say that "f***ed" doesn't hav a perfect flow to it. I would suggest that the lack of words with the downbeat at that time is prolly the best emphasisis for the anger being portrayed.

Tho, each are entitled to there own view.

  • There are only two reasons why artists make radio edit versions:

    1. So people who work in radio like me can have a job hunting down the damn clean version for air-use.

    2. So pricks like the top comment won't wine about "the kids"

  • @LeeTheProducer Jerk off. Any third rate writer can throw in a few "fucks" and think that's art. It's piss poor creativity is what it is.

  • @AntiSemantic1 I don't even get what you mean. You really fucked it up this time, didn't you, my dear?

  • @AntiSemantic1 In what way is it piss poor creativity, it adds impact to the song, so in the words of Mumford & Sons; You really fucked it up this time didn't you.

  • @08aginesi I guess if your brain is so fried by shitty music or drugs and alcohol that you need "impact" to enjoy a song. Music has sucked since the 80's anyway.

  • i love this song :D it makes me happy...LIKE if you agree

  • why am i listening to the clean version?

  • @MrCojue Haha I know right?

  • i love this song i dont care if they swear my 3 brother loves this song they wont know what the swear word is so

  • I don't understand why people are debating as if they switched out the word for another - its just blanked.

  • Comment removed

  • song titles dont get much better than "Little Lion Man."

  • "Fucked it up" has a much, much stronger connotation.

  • Haha, I really 'beeped' it up this time. XD.

  • @legitchandler28 they're in the description

  • This is a great song, but where is the lyrics? Great video though.

  • the dislike bar is like a ninja you know it's there but can't see it (*_*)

  • Dear YouTube, there is a "Dislike" button a Mumford And Sons video. Please fix that.

    Lots of love, Jude

  • @TheEsmom I love how everybody tries this move to get likes...but hey it works!

  • @abigailkristina LOL XD

  • good song. good song.

  • THIS BAND ROCKS YOUR SOCKS AND YOU KNOW IT!!!!! =)

  • My old youth pastor's wife was from england. She got mad at one of my friends when she said the word "butt"..? is that considered a cuss word or something there??

  • im confused... BUT I LOVE THIS SONG! my friend told me to listen to it! hes a very good "brother" hehe i love him....HI VAN

  • I was hoping for a clever substitution, like 'muffed' or 'messed,' but got the silent treatment instead. Oh Well.

  • i was thinking the same thing. lack of substitution = lower quality version.

  • Thank you

  • I generally would much rather listen to the uncensored version, but this is optimal when my profanity-squeamish parents are over.

  • i hate t=3m31s :(

  • like this if you hate it when people use old things like, dis i like, or like is it rape if the replay button likes it, GET UR OWN F****** tihngs

  • Ya know, this is a really great song, but they DIDNT have to swear. Some kids like this song. They could have said "I really SCREWED it up this time" and NOT " I really f***** it up this time" It just bugs me! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @BFOX513 Apparently they said that nothing else felt right. Bugs me too.

  • @BFOX513 I totally agree. Whenever this song is on the radio I just sing "messed it up" instead ;)

  • @BFOX513 I'm listening to this version because I have younger siblings in the room with me. But as an artist, and an American (and someone who can relate to this song), no other word truly replaces their choice in the chorus, and you're trying to explain a pit in your soul that's your fault. Messed up is too nice of a word. You f****d up. They had the right to make it the way they did, and I'm also happy they have a clean one. You're welcome to boycott them if you don't believe in their music.

  • @414najawa Yea... NO. Swearing DOESNT need to be added to music, and ts certainly NOT my fault.... get a life

  • @BFOX513 No no, the artist is taking fault in that line. And I'm a firm believer in freedom of speech and expression.

  • @414najawa Don't you just love it when someone is too thick-headed to accept someone else's point of view?

  • @AmateurD0C Lol. I'm the one who freely chose to listen to this. I have no problem with not using a word. I agree the radio should censor music during certain times of the day for younger audiences, and that it is in fact vulgar, and there are occasionally better words. I just don't believe in telling someone to shut up. Just let them ruin their music, if that's what you think they're doing. The second you make one exception to freedom of speech, however, you've opened a Pandora's Box.

  • @AmateurD0C Yea i do.... and you guys are dumb idiots :)

  • @BFOX513 You're welcome to your point of view (i never said I didn't accept it), but let's say I didn't like Jews? Should I make them illegal? There's was this one German dude who did that. You can't make something illegal just because you don't like it. You're "argument" isn't an argument, and you've been nothing but rude to me. It makes it very hard to want to listen to your side of the argument.

  • @414najawa Im not trying to be rude! Im just getting upset okay! Yea thats your point of view but its not mine so yes it is an argument. and i didnt even want you to reply in the first place! Ive wasted enough time on this. okay BYE

  • @BFOX513 Well, your choice of words has been very poor, if that wasn't you being rude. An argument requires logic. Everything I've said, I've supported with logic examples, and well known historical characters and events. You're welcome to settle for "not liking it", but don't claim something should be criminalized if you can't give a good reason why. This is a waste of my time as well. Goodbye.

  • @414najawa Okay Ms. Mumbo Jumbo smart alec. Swearing should not be used in music, especially the F word.

  • @BFOX513 Okay, let's say that's true. Why shouldn't swearing be used in music?

  • @414najawa Because children could hear it and there are so many other words to use.

  • @BFOX513 True, but swearing is simply adult language. Adjectives that capture an extremity of emotion that may not by lyrically emphasized in any way close by other words. I can understand if you're not comfortable with swearing, and I'm not trying to sell you on it. I'm just saying it's not wrong. Children shouldn't hear swearing as much as they shouldn't know the details of their creation quite yet. Still, such details are fine, and important for adults to know. The same goes for swearing.

  • @414najawa Wow you say a lot of mumbo jumbo and i think swearing is okay in songs, maybe hell or damn? But other things I dont think is very appropraite for kids OR adults. I was raised to know that swearing isnt "cool" and it wasnt made to be in this world

  • @BFOX513 For starters: people who swear because it's cool waste opportunities to use more effective adjectives (and they're annoying). They make themselves look a lot less intelligent then they could. The reason I'm okay with swearing is simply because it exists. To get rid of it would require mandatory censorship, which is a slippery slope. It was illegal in WWI to speak German because we were fighting them. Even a "good" reason to censor will never be good enough because we give up free speech

  • @414najawa freedom of speeech? its not speech at all. and yea they SHOULD make it illegal. Im fine with hell and damn but no others

  • @BFOX513 That's a very short sighted thing to say. What if Christianity ticked someone else off. Should we make it illegal to say Jesus too? You have to allow everything, or risk losing anything. I've been studying political rhetoric for years, and have read a lot on the issue. I'm fine with radio stations and television having standards of conduct, but when it comes down to an individual saying something, that should be that persons choice. Free Speech is truly under attack, and it's so sacred.

  • @414najawa Jeez this isnt even about freedom of speech! I made one little comment and u made a big deal about it. its not a big deal so just leave it alone. I know i am

  • @BFOX513 Woa, let's review this conversation: I simply disagreed that the song needed to be toned down. You said swearing DOESN'T need to added to music, and then insulted me. I didn't swear at you, and have been keeping it very G. Then you called me "Ms. Mumbo Jumbo smart alec." (Not nice, especially when you're talking to a dude). I then gave you an opportunity to defend your stance. You haven't given a good reason against swearing other than you dislike it. That's not an argument.

  • @414najawa Yes it is an argument okay BYE

  • @BFOX513 You're right, they didn't have to swear, but I like that they did. Language is a tool, and I feel 'f-ed up' conveys something deeper than just 'screwed up' - I think it really expresses that bitter self-reproach that comes when you completely mess up. It's more potent and meaningful. The song doesn't use the word flippantly or to seem cool, and to me the original lyrics are very beautiful.

But I'm glad clean versions like this are easily found; that way everyone can enjoy the song.

  • @BFOX513 There was a version on the radio that was exactly the same, only they used 'I really MESSED it up this time' and it still sounded great. I agree, they certainly didn't have to swear. It makes me wince. :/

  • @BFOX513 I guess you should have wrote it first then.

  • @BFOX513 I agree, but there are other words other then SCREWED. You could just use MESSED up instead, but I get your point.

  • @VandiMares Personally, I say "mucked." Which may be a little too close for any comfortable performances, but if I'm singing along to the unedited version, it's easier to override my brain hearing them. Plus it keeps that nice sharp sound.

    I sound a little crazy, now, don't I?

  • @BFOX513 Not all songs are meant for kids

  • @BFOX513 I think it was more of just for the emotion using the eff bomb. And if a kid is listening to this song and is smart enough to understand what it means then the language shouldn't bother them. I'm 15 years old and I love this song and understand it. It's a word apart of the english language, you have to accept how others use it. :P

  • @BFOX513 i completely agree with you man! this is one of those songs that i didnt expect to have curse words

  • @BFOX513 I sort of agree with you, but mainly not. There is such a difference between saying "I really screwed it up this time" and "I really fucked it up this time". One is a "nicer" version, yes, but saying I really fucked it up this time holds so much more emotion and meaning behind it. One's saying: Oops, I forgot to bring your coffee today, I really screwed it up this time. The other is: I'm sorry I broke your heart and left you never to be the same again, I really fucked it up this time.

  • @BFOX513 True, but M&S is the kind of band that makes their music the way THEY want.

  • @BFOX513 While i get what your saying but most artist don't see swearing as a negative action, and Swear words aren't really meant to be bad they are for strong feelings and they get that across, but society over uses it and puts a negative meaning behind it.

  • @BFOX513 when i listen to some swear words in songs (youre beautiful by james blunt) i cringe because they were really unnecessary. but this song... especially because its by mumford and sons.. has such emotion in it, that any other word just seems.. like such an understatement. i mean, everything, from the music to the lyrics to the way its sung, has such passion beneath it. i think mumford really wanted to say that he $%&#ed it up this time.. he didnt just screw it up. lol.

  • @BFOX513 and i understand where youre coming from , but as for those kids.. thats why theres a clean version :]

  • @BFOX513 I believe they swore to add intensity to the song and to the word. If you listen to the clean version and the original version, that line is so much more powerful, even though a lot of us don't encourage swearing. Using a word such as "screwed" or "messed" doesn't fill that gap, those words don't have the beat or power that f*** does. Just my thoughts.

  • @RawrMrGreen im just listening to this cause my parents are home ...

  • @RawrMrGreen disagree, i hate the other version cause of the f bomb, i feel its all in the power of how they sing it, they screwed up an amazing song by throwing that word in the other version

  • @RawrMrGreen i totally agree although when i sing it i say mucked :) this is the song that made them the amazing band they are today they were founded byb this song

  • @BFOX513 Swearing is bad. swearing has this power, when some really swears, and means it.. you can feel the anger.. wich was the intention of this "f*ck" to make it very clear, that this was serious, and they didn't just "screw it" they did something even worse that.

But hey, for you guys.. there's a clean version :)

  • @BFOX513 This is the real world, kid. Besides, I doubt that the songs they're writing are aimed at kid's age groups. That's why they have the clean versions.

  • @BFOX513 I totally disagree..it makes his point clearer and emphasizes his anger towards himself.

  • This guy agrees 100%. if they just changed the lyrics there, this song would be more than fantastic 0.o

  • @BFOX513 hey buddy fuck you... it brings intensity dont get all hurt by a word... you have to be brought into a song put into his feeling thats what music is, dont complain just because you are a 40 year virgin living in your parents basement who isnt allowed to swear. no one wants to hear that... people swear get over it.

  • @drRockzooooo Especially little inconsequential boys like you.

  • @drRockzooooo Oh, hey how you doing, bitch?...... I never said I HATED that word, I just think that, that word kinda ruined the song... I love this song, and I don't have a problem with swearing being in a song, but when it is in a song that has been sung by kids, or for kids on Kidz Bop, etc. maybe they should have just said that instead, because kids can get confused with a random blank in the song where the F word is, and all I did was share my opinion, so don't be a prick, and I'm 13 ;)

  • @BFOX513 yeah i mightve guessed youre a prissy 13 year old who gives a shit about kids bop its not a child's song or some mainstream piece of shit music. its actual music which is art, dont criticize just enjoy.

  • @drRockzooooo See how fucking dumb you are. hahahaha enjoy your lame ass music... and i bet me (the prissy 13 year old) can get through life a lot better than you :) Later jackass

  • @BFOX513 bro what are you doing now... men and woman cuss all the time, stop complaining if parents like listen to this so there kids are subjected to cursing that is fine, as well as peolpe dont like cursing, but dont keep saying fuck when youre arguing that it shoukldnt be used in a song

  • if you like this version listen to the unclean version ^.^

  • like this if u have never been in the top comments

  • LITTLE LI0:00N MAN

  • Wow. So good. So folk. So new. So different.

  • @OmegaSonic5000 haha so true

  • Instead of F***ed it up this time, it sounds like pooped :P

  • why is shane dawson one of the tags/

  • perfect song for an adventure movie

  • Like this if you think the banjo in this song is epic.

  • Love this song!!!

  • ohhh its rake not rape. i should know this im a enghlish kid

  • @rhygar123 haha i saw an interview and they said they were german i think the guy who said that was drunk!!!

  • @blackandwhite171 Rofl. very funny!

  • @rhygar123 u shuld but u dont

  • Sounds like he says "didn't i mind it" but its really "didn't i my dear" confusing much?

  • THANK YOU! I went and bought the album, then ran home to try to find an edited version as good as the one from the CD :)

  • This is the only song with a banjo in it that could be this awesome.

  • @MyEpicVids A banjo is never a bad thing. :)

  • @weneedactionnow Look at my channel for the "Messed" up version

  • @weneedactionnow Gotta read the description. "rate yourself and rake yourself". But feel free to masturbate, I'd suggest some better material though.

  • Well personally I'm glad they got sensored. I personally don't want to hear the eff word almost every sentance. That's just me though. They are still a great band

  • @TvvinkleToes look at my channel for a version that says "Messed Up"

  • i love it

  • Comment removed

  • @jdelacrixer Why hate him? Dislike his music? Yes. But hate a man, why?

  • @Raidfreak i agree, when somebody tells me they hate justin beiber i ask them why because they dont know him personally. then they just call me gay for no reason. some people are just stupid guess.

  • @Raidfreak I was watching another vid and some1 said this and got tons of thumbs up so i copied them :/

  • @jdelacrixer so you said something rude so you could get a bunch of thumbs up?? Really?

  • The problem with swearing is not that it is wrong, It is that there are better words. I believe that there is a time and place for swearing. Stubbing your toe for instance XD...

I listen to this one when my younger siblings are present and the other when they are not. Why not just do that? I really don't think you care that they swear. Can anyone honestly say they care whether someone does something so minor?

  • If they just left spaces in songs fuck you by cee lo green would be full of them!
