And if this fails... Does it kill the people encased in it? This is just stupid. In that demo room you could have EVERYTHING that is on that stupid wall. You see, The AWE solves no issue, infact it creates one. What if multiple groups or people need to use a certain function, Rather then investing money into the room to make it multi purpose they got a AWE instead and now everyone has to wait their turn to watch it dick about and move a few panels of plastic about with some MASSIVE motors. fuck
This is so funny... reminds me of a PC compared to a Mac. If you really need a wall with multiple screens which bends, try clear plastic and liquid crystal. Looks better, You can see beyond it. Lightweight. And if you hit your head, it just bends. This one though fits nicely in a geek gamer's house. Now if only they'd come up with an automatic Red Bull & potatoe chip packet opener.
For everyone myopically looking at this as "useless"...try to use your brains. This is a fairly new implementation of technology that builds on an old-fashioned concept - reconfigurable multipurpose rooms. Using our brains, what other ideas can we think of that this might prove useful for? Robotic scoreboards...seating arrangements...desks...stages with podiums and other furniture...the list is as infinite as is the list of heavy things that we might not be interested in lugging around.
This thing really sucks. I was expecting something revolutionary. Instead I got a wall with a few useless articulation points. The thing looks like an accident waiting to happen, too.
This is ridiculous. You built an ugly ass robotic wall that, in essence, moves monitors around. Don't you realize how expensive that is compared to just moving monitors around, buying multiple monitors, or hell, even just building a new room?
@FridayFBDanceParty CERN is expensive as hell and we use it just for one main experiment... gosh, even that fancy electronic doors at the mall are expensive and you can just open the door.
That ugly ass robotic wall can be used in audio, in concert rooms depending the instruments improving the acoustic, or in the library reducing the noise.
@FridayFBDanceParty Some of you people act as if you don't have enough sense to be able to see past what you see right in front of you in this video. Clearly, this is more of a proof-of-concept of robotic reconfigurable walls and furniture in regular-sized rooms. It is not meant to be something you'll be able to buy in Wal-Mart tomorrow. If you folks don't have enough intelligence to understand this, maybe you shouldn't be watching this video to begin with!
they still built this retarded thing with money that was GIVEN TO THEM. This is what happens when certain people are educated beyond their intelligence. Even the concept of a moving wall or furniture is just plain idiotic. I don't want my walls, couch, t.v., or toilette going anywhere hullo!
@istompedthehonk No one is proposing that we move your walls, couch, TV or toilet. Are you aware that there are places that technology may be applied in the world that does not directly relate to you, and yet may still be important? Consider how this might be used in field applications, hospitals, laboratories, control rooms for oceangoing vessels, factories and design studios. I'm sure that when the first transistor came out, many ignorant people didn't understand that, either.

@FridayFBDanceParty in 50 years you are gonna be like ur mom or dad or any old person whos like I HATE TOUCH SCREEN...... the reason behind me saying this is because this is a basic model for something that could possibly be revolutionary. sure this thing is mad expensive now. but in 50 years who knows........ maybe ull have one in ur living room that u picked up off the street cuz someone threw there old one out or something -_- like u neeeeeeeeeever know
I'm in AWE at the time and money spent here finding a solution to a problem that does not exist! Wasteful of resources and conceptually misguided in my view. What exactly does the 4 metre high "roof" actually give the user, except a headache if they stand up too quickly? And how many rooms have ceilings high enough to get this thing inside? Necessity is the mother of invention - over funding of lame concepts is often the death of it.
@MaximusArtisticus dude iv seen lots of solution and this wall can be useful for in front line when thers hevy fire and bombs or leader guard to riots fool!!! thats the point of creative mines for ya

even if you did need an adjustable wall... which i can think of a use for yet.....
why would you use expensive motors? why would you not be able to manually move it, would be quicker!
